    Had to watch twice. The band enters the scene and they are 5 wide, I call them ranks. They make a sharp left turn (more than 90 degrees) and suddenly are 3 ranks wide. Like magic. March on a bit and left turn on a street and are 5 wide again, Then street narrows and are 3 wide and suddenly 5 wide again! Like magic, without a misstep. They are the Royal Marine Band after all.

    Great video ...... thanks for this.
    This RM Drum Major is extremely smart and precise and has a very good military bearing and style that is good to see ...... if it's not D/M Mace, then it looks very much like him with the way he performs. (D/M Mace has got to be the most professional D/M the Royal Marines have had for a very long time) ... The RM Band is superb and very professional in their musical abilities and marching. Great to see and listen to ...... The RM Guard are also excellent. Well Done those guys. SuperNutkin

    Just look at the way that Drum Major holds, and flourishes his mace. No other Drum Majors in the British Services have the same class. Elbows high up, and hand pointing straight down . That's unique to the Royal Marines. Best Service bands in the Country.

    Royal Marines Drum Major ;
    I like the way he swings his arm to a certain height, but not TOO high, unlike some other RM Drum Majors and Guards Drum Majors, plus the fact he keeps his arm STRAIGHT ...... there's nothing worse than seeing a D/Major swinging his arm too high and is also bent at the elbow, instead of being ram-rod straight. It's called the "boomerang arm" and looks as though the arm has just arrived independently from Australia.
    Numerous Drum Majors are guilty of this and I can comment with some authority, especially after personally seeing the likes of really great RM Drum Majors in the past, and many years ago, such as Drum Majors Geoff Knox, Charlie Bowden, Colin Bowden, Dave Dawson, Dave Buchanan, Andy Crofts, Alfie Laming, John Porter and others.
    The Coldstream Guards Drum Major, Steven Ward, from many years ago, was a legend and one of the finest Guards D/M's I've ever seen. If you could get an old video of this guy, you will be impressed.
    Anyway, at last, we now have two superb RM Drum Majors in the likes of D/M Mace and now this guy, D/M Cartwright. The Scotland RM Band D/M is also quite good ..... SuperNutkin

      Actually his style is a bit precious. The very best make their work look effortless whereas he tries a bit too hard. His "star gazing" on the mace drop is quite amateurish.

    Why is there a U.S marine?

    • @supernutkin5122
      @supernutkin5122 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Luis, this is because the USMC officer is on loan from the United States Marine Corps.
      This happens quite often between regiments and corps, especially between the USMC and Royal Marines.
      This enables them to exchange ideas whilst training, etc, and to go back to their regiment / corps with new ideas gained from the exchange posting.
      We (the Royal Marines) send numerous officers and senior NCO's over to the USMC Recruit Depots in Virginia and San Diego to gain experience as to how they train their guys.

    • @richardwoods5873
      @richardwoods5873 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3
