Dennis is simply fantastic in this concert considering how his life was at this time . highly underrated. and often forgotten at how great he really was.
Anyone who doubts Dennis's talents just go out and buy Pacific Ocean Blue. It's one of the best of the BB members' solo efforts, and stands up against anything the boys did in the 1970s.
A superb Beach Boys performance. Great to see Denis hammering those drums. And Carl singing beautifully. At their best one the finest bands of their era. Rest in peace Denis and Carl. Thanks to all in the band for the magic of their music. 🏖️⛱️🏝️☀️
I just saw this again on Foxtel, and I can't help crying my eyes out when I see Dennis and Carl. I especially love it when they sing Surfer Girl with Brian - boy that is really sad that they are not all around still. I love the Beach Boys.
One of the best concert videos I’ve ever seen. Beach boys, though as oldies act vs the early 70’s, are perfect musically. Should be placed in the National treasure archives.
🙏🏻RIP Carl Wilson you rock the stage, great voice as well as a guitar player. You let your inter feelings flow out to all the people. I could fell you man you were one of the greats.✌🏻🙏🏻❤️👍🏻✌🏻✌🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Indeed he was. The most handsome too!! ♥♥♥ Looked like a fox in that green jacket. He was easily my favorite Beach Boy. But as far as this version of Sloop John B, Dennis perfected it on the drums, speeding the song up, giving it better rhythm.

No, he's not a bad singer at all. Just a first class jerk. But at this point in 1980, he might be the best singer of the group although I'd still go with Al. Al still sounds good in 2018!! Brian sounded horrible here and looked totally disinterested.
@@reneep9972, Al is definitely the best singer now. It seems like his singing voice barely aged since the '60s. I have no idea what Mike sounds like now, he always uses vocal tuning.
Holy cow, the boys are just absolutely rocking out like they have no right to do. Dennis' drumming is kind of unreal, so wildly unhinged but he almost manages to get it together for the downbeat. And Mike Love in all his shiny jacket weird-ass beautiful voice beauty. And Brian lurking with his lost voice. Then it just about completely goes off the rails on Sloop John B because Dennis must be coked up to the top of his skull and is playing faster and faster. This is a whole epic right here.
Note : Ed Cater is NOT playing Bass, but a " 2nd lead guitar", depending on the song. Bass is being done by Joe Chemay, who also adds vocals. ------------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o

I was at this festival. Totally unappreciated the beach boys at the time. I had gone to see Santana and also never got over missing Led Zeppelin who played Knebworth in 1979.
Got there late missed Lindisfarne and The Blues Band but enjoyed Elkie Brooks blues band, Mike Oldfield, Santana and of course the fabulous Beach Boys.
Bald Mike Love wearing a baseball cap covering his BALD head. Love the lyrics about eating a hamburger and driving his hot rod to find surfer girls on the beach. That my friend is a quality lyric and maybe rivals Dylan and Lennon as the greatest rock n' roll lyricist. Then there is the lyric to God Only Knows - originally called "Girls Only Surf". It began "I may drive a hot rod, but only to the hamburger stand, I drive my hot rod, fast to find girls on the sand," You tell me if that song wouldn't; have been a smash hits with those lyrics. Don't F'ck with the formula, Brian.

The harmonies on point. The band is together, the music sounds great. All the voices are there, even Brian is there on piano in body but perhaps not soul. But I still can’t fucking stand Mike Love 😂 4:36
Carl.. an angel's voice, impressive instrumental skills and pure natural serenity. Al, so genial and sympathetic. Dennis a force of nature. Brian a shy and withdrawn genius. all i ever see on beach boys videos is how brilliant and underrated he is lol obviously he's very talented, but no one touches Brian (for me )
Except Brian is a mess during the whole "Brian's Back" period. Look at him, he acts like he's been lobotomized.
He practically was.
Agreed, but I think he still wrote some great melodies/harmonies in the 70s. Beach boys "love you" was amazing imo
