Jonathon, Sir, fantastic to find you, reviewing another guitar I'm interested in...what great tunes. Thank you again. Great review. Really informative, enjoyable, delightful. Another one knocked out of the park...re
I’ve got a SSH Fender American Standard with all the same specs as this G&L. I’ve had purists give me a hard time for the humbucker but that guitar is extremely versatile and I love it. Not my main guitar but definitely one of my favs! I’ve always been a huge G&L fan too! Thanks again Jonathan!
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I bought the G&L HSS Tribute, and am planning on using it for hard rock (tuned to Eb, a lot of fuzz). I'm thinking about buying a Fender '60s Vintera Telecaster w/ Bigsby reissue, for a praise/worship type of tone (standard tuning, light overdrive, delay/reverb). Do you think I could accomplish the praise/worship tone with just the HSS, or would the Vintera offer a better palette for praise/worship? I don't want to buy an extra guitar if it's not needed, or if I can get a very similar result with the HSS. Thanks for your time and opinion.
I picked up a used Legacy Tribute HSS just like this one a couple of days ago. I absolutely love it...the neck is fast, and I love the pickups. I have a couple of American Pro Strats, and I still really like these pickups. I haven't noticed the problem with it going out of tune...actually the opposite was true in my experience. I'm gonna have fun with it.
Reminds me of a 78 USA Fender Strat I used to own, that had an Ash body too, same sunburst body and maple neck, but with a traditional SSS variation. Yes this G&L has that classic Strat sound as you say, which I too love to this day. Thank you City Music loaning this beauty to Jonathan and thank you Jonathan for the lovely video. The only thing with Ash it is quite heavy compared with say the likes of Alder on many Strats over time, I actually liked the weight, it sort psychologically made me feel I was playing something very durable, solid, reliable, built to last, well I had it for over 28 years, only sold it to make a huge profit. I wonder if G&L's classed as 'Vintage' guitars increase in value too?
Happy Sunday and Father's Day! I just wanted to say that I've appreciated all of your G&L videos. I'm a big fan of them as well, and looking to add more soon. Thanks for sharing your gift!
Just subscribed you are awesome!! I’m a new guitar player been playing 3 months and I’m a little older beginner 35 ... and I just got this guitar and I’m glad I found your channel your such a great player great channel 🙏🏾
I really like the engineering on the tremolo fitting, ,nice substantial circular mounting and a grub screw to minimise play,,essential if you like to play Jeff beck style leads.p.s. best upgrade on any strat style guitar,,sperzel locking tuners,,set your tremolo springs for a light feel so it retuns easily ,,file your nut slots for zero snagging,,make sure your strings are stretched, and you can play 90 minute sets without bearly tuning at all.,Think your own Japanese strat with the modified 2 point tremolo has the edge on this G and L ,thanks Jonathan.
Thanks for doing such a great video. I recently got a used legacy HSS, I have a question: Is it possible to remove the tremolo arm ? If yes, how can I do?
Jonathan: We don't know each other but we have a mutual friend - Orlando Bonzi. :D He's in HK as of this post and sends his regards. Cheers! So glad to have found your channel! Continued success!
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Indeed I shall Jonathan! And many thanks also for your reviews on the Harley Benton stuff - I have just dipped my toes in a couple of HB guitars and so far totally agree with your assessments - very strong guitars for the money. :D Cheers again!
Nice video Jon,I I replaced the stock tuners on my Legacy Tribute (lefty) with drop-in locking tuners from Keisel Guitars in San Diego, California. The guitar stays in tune pretty nicely now. I have the S-S-S pickup configuration. On these strat type guitars do you prefer the humbucker in the neck position or the bridge position? I am thinking of adding a Seymour Duncan Lil' 59 to mine.
Social issues notwithstanding, Indonesia makes a hell of a guitar. I'm in love with my Jackson SLAT (Soloist Archtop) that was made there (SLATT-XMG 3-6), and have a few others that are no slouch. It's just a shame that the political situation over there is so bad.
Hi Jon, I'm considering a strat guitar for the chime and distinct sound have been an ibanez and Gibson style guy. Do you think this a good option for a strat style guitar it'll be this or the fender player Stratocaster (MIM)?
Hi Jonathan. Which one do you think is better on playability and tuning stability with trem action? Nick Johnston Traditional hss or this G&L Tribute Legacy HSS?
Hi Jonathan, lockdown gives me time to review your reviews, haha. So about this G&L Legacy tribute, how do you compare it to the Yamaha 612 VFM ? Both are HSS with alnico magnets, would you say one is more straty, the other is more rocky ? Thanks for advice.
Jonathan, since you mentioned the weight of this guitar, I wanted to get your recommendation for a lightweight guitar that you play that you enjoy. I’m close to 50 years old and struggle with arthritis in my neck and shoulder so my days of playing heavy guitars are done. I’d like to get something between 3.0-3.2 KG (6 to 7 pounds). Are there any guitars that you could recommend around that weight? I was eyeing up the HB Fusion ii HH.
Awesome playing,......I have the G&L swamp ash tele from this series,...great guitar,...was thinking of getting this swamp asp strat,....they advertised it a ( a light weight swamp ash guitar ).....wow what is their definition of a guitar that weighs a lot ????......I'll probably still get one....the tele came set up great,....although I put some Duncan stacked tele pickups in mine and lightly sanded some of the finish off the back of the neck,.....it looks like the same finish on the back of the strat neck,...but no big deal.
In my country this model is on sale for u$s 480. The Fender Player series is u$s 900. Is the latter worth the difference? Also, between this G&L and a Squier Classic Vibe which one would you choose?
Snagged a used Tribute HBB in natural swamp ash online today. Has the mini toggle expander switch found on their USA models? Guess I'll find out what's up when it gets here. Your reviews of the Tribute series have haunted me the past year. 😀
Hi Jonathan, thank you for a great review. Really nice playing too. A quick question if you have time: do you think the Legacy USA is worth the extra financial outlay over the Indonesia-made Tribute? We're talking about around (in Europe) 500 euros and 1,200 euros. This Tribute sounds wonderful but the USA-made Legacy standards too.
I didn't get the notification on this. Thank you! I did get the USA Legacy in the end. It puts all my other guitars in the shade, including a Strat Custom! Incredible instruments
That is interesting that you prefer the sound of good ceramic single coils to AlNiCo. IMO single coils are more pleasing musically than humbucker's (Even though the majority of my guitars have humbucker's), and the clean to mild overdrive single coil is what i like best. I don't own a guitar with ceramic PUP's because i have it in my mind that don't like them, or they are not as nice, or... i do not know why? I turn the page when i see ceramic and go to the next guitar. Saying that i will have to open my mind to getting a guitar with some decent ceramic PUP's. Perhaps you can speak more on this in the future? TY.
I had a Dean Avalanch with the same kind of floating 2-way tremolo system. It would start to go out of tune, then I'd just yank the whammy bar and it would be back in tune, lol. I screwed up though, by putting 10s (11s?) on it, for tone. So I had to block off the tremolo. It never stayed in tune after that. Ahh, the life of a broke musician.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud I lost that Dean years ago, but I bought the G&L Legacy Tributw today, tobacco burst. I left it with a guitar tech overnight who is going to put 10s DRs on it and lockdown the tremolo somehow. He said he's going to tighten some screws, instead of putting a block in there, or something. Amazing tremolo system, but I prefer tone and tuning over using the whammy.

How to define Tone\volume\bass in order to sound straty in positin 4/2 ?
There are two controls for Tone.. a bass and treble. Switch to position 4 or 2 and adjust your control to suit your preferences
