Does It Doom? Just goes to show how many great choices there are on the market now a days. I’d say almost all them are a great choice for anyone’s rig. I’m fond of the Erupter from EarthQuaker. Love the artwork on that one as well. Plus seeing as how the founder of that pedal company lives not too far from my hometown I gotta represent. They make incredible pedals!
I'm certainly biased since I have a Void Master, but I have to say it and the Erupter brought the tone today. I like their level of presence with the low tuned guitar without turning harsh. Just to throw it out there, the Void Master also sounds massive using E standard tuning. It's a really great pedal and Jason is a cool dude. He knows circuit design too because this thing is super quiet for the amount of gain it has
I dig the ones with a bit more mids to push them through in a mix like the fuzzlord an cathulu and that orange one was probably my favorite. It's very precise but still massive. The first was way to mid scouped at would literally disappear in a heavy mix in drop tunings without some extra boost or eq.
=== Round 1 === 3:31 4 Horsemen Massif 3:50 Fuzzlord Void Master 4:07 Magic Pedals Dunwich Amps Cthulhu 4:26 Sonic Warfare 4:45 Eruptor 5:05 Black Arts Destroyer (right switch) 5:23 Black Arts Destroyer (left switch) 5:40 Black Arts Destroyer (both) 5:58 Ophidian 6:17 Gandalf i think the BAD with left or both switches is a clear 'winner'
The Destroyer is my pick. I like how crisp it sounds with the volume rolled off, and how huge it sounds when the swell comes in like a giant wave of sin. The red eye indicators are a nice touch. The Fuzzlord Void Master, the Cthulhu, and the Massif ran a close race for my #2 pick. Excellent demo!
I have the Voidmaster and the Four horsemen Massif by Frost Giant, they are both amazing and similar, yet have a slightly different sound to them. The Four horsemen has a more guttural sounding, grindier fuzz characteristic. The Voidmaster has a bit more clarity like you said, and a bit more dry, ripping quality to the fuzz. The Voidmaster also has a lot more volume on tap. Love them both. Fuzzlord, Frost Giant, Black Art, I have pedals from all of them and they all make incredible fuzz machines. Long Live the Pharoah Supreme.
each pedal sounded absolutely feckin awesome (i want them all); each pedal emphasizes slightly different frequencies either subtly or bluntly to produce their different "tones" thinking that a few of those would be excellent layered track over track but even all of them stacked into a fuzzed up mess of gnarliness was something i could listen to & enjoy... however that would represent a significant finincial outlay will have to search for cheaper alternatives....
Rad demo ! The Massif and Void Master kick asses, I’d personally go with the Massif because of the form factor. All of them are amazing tho! I love my Erupter to death haha
Great Comparison! Liked EQD Erupter, Void Master and Massif the most. My fav one-knob silicon fuzz IRL so far is Emanating Fist Electronics (D.A.M.) Black Dust clone! But as you said, it's all blue fuzz face variations. You really need to listen to those IRL to hear slight nuances!
Great shootout man! I already have an Erupter which I love, but you just introduced me to the Destroyer and now I absolutely need one. You might be hearing from my wife after the purchase...
As soon as I heard. "Bias" I was like. "That one" and was tempted to just skip the video ahead to confirmation bias. Baddum tsss. The Destroyer wins by having two buttons. Even if one sucked that's a winner. The very third one caught me as having a nice sound. Chtulu. Yeah I liked that one for some reason.
I grabbed one of the one off Massifs that Frost Giant offered last week (made to four horsemen specs). I picked it up based on your other demo, and after watching this I’m glad I did. I may have to grab a Void Master at some point as well. I was surprised to hear how different the two sounded.
Gonna be Frank. I see alot of love for fuzzlord here but that void doesnt sound like that pre production I can tell you that where that volume knob sits is BS as no fuzzlord I've ever owned had enough volume. As a matter of fact Blackhawks gandolf doesnt sound like what's depicted here. I'm calling BS.
BS as in what? There is zero post production-no gain adjustments, no compression, no normalization, no EQ adjustment, nothing. All pedals were set to register roughly the same output level on the audio interface, and no amp settings were adjusted in between. Sorry your ears don’t hear what you want them to hear. The Fuzzlord is the loudest on the board (aside from the Oath section of the Destroyer) and has its volume dialed back accordingly. 🤷🏻♂️
@@DoesItDoom there is video editing. It's easy to tell where you cut. Anyone who has owned these knows damn well what I'm talking about. Who do you think designed the massif circuit? I know. And it's not frost giant. Though they are friends. Just sick of this fuzzlord marketing shit. They are overpriced clones with basic bitch artwork. And I can tell you this I know damn well any blackhawk pedal has far more volume output than everyone of those except the BAT. Just save your shit for someone who doesnt have a degree in sound design and production from a well known media institute. Kick rocks Steve.
@@historian3540 - dude, this is just a friendly pedal shootout. there's no reason to attack anyone or get defensive. can't you just enjoy the video for what it is? go flex your audio wizard muscles somewhere else. no need to be a dick.
His Torian there is definitly some jump cutting to remove bad takes of my playing and empty space, but that’s it. Many have seen the full 20min uncut footage on my members site, which was uploaded minutes after I shot this, and I’m sure they can vouch for it sounding the same. Feel free to go check it out yourself!
Unsurprisingly, the Massif and Void Master sound the best to my ears, balancing articulation, versatility, volume and dirt. These are also the favorite two fuzzes in my arsenal currently. Having said that, I'm very surprised by how great the Blackhawk pedal sounds. I don't have an octave fuzz anymore, and this might be a necessary addition to my board! Fantastic review and riffs as always, Steve! 🤘
The Zero Fret Ophidian, Black Arts Toneworks Destroyer, Stomp Under Foot Sonic Warfare. They're all great in their own way, and bring the massive droning wall of buzzsaws. I like how most of them have that overloaded/disintegrating texture too.
I’m a EQD fanboy using the hoof reaper and like the eruptor but also planning to get voidmaster. Hope it comes back in stock. Great demo all these pedals sound really good
They're all great pedals. I like the Blackarts second switch setting best for full volume stuff but I found it didn't clean up as well as the first setting. The Massif and Fuzzlord sounded great overall but were totally different pedals. Massif seems to carry a bit more low end where the Fuzzlord retains a lot of clarity. I don't think I'd be mad at any one of these if they showed up on my front door. Awesome video man!
Great video Steve!!! Asking me to pick a favorite here is like asking me to pick which limb I’d like you to cut off, I can’t do it!!! They were all great, that said, I was really digging the Black Arts Destroyer and Jason’s (The Fuzzlord) Void Master. Again, they were all very very cool!!! Great shootout though brother, it’s a great idea!!! Keep them coming!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Holy shit that M P Cthulhu is fuckin massive and gloriously sick ,although had a slight flashback from the beam of Northern lights spewing from that box.that's a serious contender& oh HellYeah it DOOMS...
This is a tough one. I think I’ve got to go with the Massif though. I like to run a Rangemaster style pedal into my fuzz, so it being a bit darker actually helps with the overall tone. Thanks for the great vid!
EQD Erupter for me, followed closely by the Magic Pedals Cthulhu. Both have a really great crumbly initial attack and bloom, with a good grindy crumbly sustain, and have good articulation, but they don't have too much articulation and too much clarity like the Fuzzlord.
The Fuzzlord, and The Erupter had the most focused sound. They also seemed like they would cut through a mix? Earth Quaker Devices make great sounding Fuzz in general. It’s actually nice to be able to dial in and shape Fuzz. Great Fuzz sounds can sometimes get lost in a mix. I guess I like to tweak more than I thought? 🙃
Awesome. That’s a bad day for my bank account. Missing the Doom Stick but if I had to choose one, the Chtulu Fuzz. Then, The Destroyer , The Void Master and the Massif.
Thanks! Im currently playing in a Doom band, but i lacked some good pedals (I was using a RAT clone and a Honeypie Fuzz) but after seeing this video I just went and buy an Erupter. Thanks a lot!!! (i also loved the cthulhu and the Destroyer! but i couldn't find none of those here in Chile, sadly).
Great demo! It's good to have so many options. There are an infinite number of combinations if we consider guitars, amps, speakers so it's great to have Options. I like the high mids of the Fuzzlord, but I'd love to have more than one so I can use them in different moments: some sounds better for in the face riffs other for a big heavy atmosphere
The Ophidian was my favorite. It had a really dark raw tone. All of them were cool though. You probably get what tones you wanted out of any of em i would think
First off I love your channel! favorite has to be FuzzLord Void Master the Massif by Frost Giant. Honestly not sure how I feel about Gandalf. I think it sounded better when you dialed back a bit.
For me, a lot of them are just a little more than I need in terms of filth. I had it narrowed down to my 3 favorites half way through and the last couple riffs settled it. I'm glad that I ended up liking the Void Master the best considering I own it. I think its something with the clarity that I like about it. But if I wanted more dirt, The Massif would be my next choice.
I keep coming back to my RAT clone with the LM308 in it personally. I want something that still has some distortion characteristics. These fuzzes all sound broken.
Aw man!. The void master, Sonic Warfare and the Destroyer definitely piqued my interest!. I love the Void Master, that Sonic Warfare tone on the chords was filthy yet distinguished and the destroyer is quite versatile. Too many puppies!.
What IS that LED on the Chtulhu pedal LMAO? That thing turned on and abducted me. That thing turned on and activated the alien spacecraft we all know they're hiding at area 51. That thing blinded me and opened my third eye. I need it.
Great one man! I think sonic warfare is a little closer to the colorsound one, more hairy. That would be my 3rd choice. Destroyer first, Cthulhu second. All are excellent pedals though! Doom on!
One Knob To Rule Them All! Which one did you think sounded best? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!
tbh they all sounded the same
btw is it me or does the destroyer have two knobs ?
I don’t know about the sounds, but the light on that Cthulhu would definitely summon The Great Old One
I was routing for the zero fret and EQD but honestly the Massif was undeniably the heaviest doomiest one here.
Kevy Does great summary, Kevy!

3 Destroyer
4 Cthulhu.
The Void Master & Massif were a toss up for number one.
