My favorite 'carry anywhere/grab and go' camera is my Fujifilm X100F. Purchased mine December 2019 after much deliberation as to a new digital camera. Love the built-in film simulations and filters. I have a collection of 35mm film SLR cameras which I enjoy using but the Fujifilm X100F is my 'go to' camera for travel and grabbing quick shots without having to fuss with settings and it excels at that. One of my best camera purchases by far.

I bought the X100s early in 2013 when it was first released, my serial number is between 100 & 200. I have carried this camera ever since. It is my most used piece of equipment. It has been all over the world and is a perfect travel camera. The picture quality is outstanding.

The 70 is great. I gave it to a friend instead of selling it because I had such a personal attachment to it. I just realized I wasn't taking photos after I stopped traveling and wanted to see it getting used. The only thing you're really missing out on is a bit of low light advantage.

I shoot Nikon and Sony for 35mm work and PhaseOne's professionally these days. I like them greatly; each is a beast in its own way. However, when I simply want to get back to basics and have fun shooting knowing I will get a great shot with foot-zoom, my X100F never disappoints. This is one camera I love. It gets me back to what triggered my photographic passion long ago - something every photographer should experience - or take the time to remember.
Whether you're a traveller, casual shooter or a street photographer, the X100F just works better. I don't believe it's a great camera for newbies - it makes you think in glorious ways. But, once you understand light better and how to control it, the X100F will take you anywhere you want to go and never get in your way.

I bought one new in 2017 around the time it was launched, and although I replaced it with a Leica Q1 about a year and a half later, I still keep it in my summer place and use it frequently. It is small, pretty easy to use and a lovely personal camera. It has drawbacks but “better” equivalents like the Leica or the Sony RX1R, whilst providing better image quality and ISO, are much more expensive and not as portable. Most people won’t need more for street and casual photography.

Good camera. I sold mine because it had a huge spot of dust on the sensor that ruined many photos. The shutter button also became so sticky that I had to press it three or four times just to take a photo. I never used the optical viewfinder. Also, the "shutter count" actually counts the number of actuations of the digital viewfinder popping up, not shutter actuations. I sold it and replaced it with an xt-10 with a vintage canon rangefinder lens.

My photography ethos is maximally WYSIWYG.
In other words, I hate post-processing. Specifically, I hate the time spent post-processing. I much prefer that ratio of time spent capturing figure prominently in the whole process.
This is why this X100F's film profile presets (Acros, Stelvia, etc) are looking like a winner to me. During my film photography days, Fuji happened to be my go-to colour films with ISO200 being my fave graininess. It's amazing to think I can set the X100F to these settings right off the bat and likely render post-processing an even more distant prospect to live with.
Will be checking out the X100F. I may have to put down my Leica Q2 sooner than I'd ever expected.

I am really a zoom guy. I love my Sony RX100 for its versatile 24-200 FF focal length range and small format factor. For example, the extra long range focal length ranger allows you to take architecture details. Yes: It doesn't really have this instantaneous sharing capabilites (I don't care) , and it has no film emulations in the camera (but I can add it on my computer, but requires raw processing). And Sony is much more like a photo taking computer, (like most of Sony), the Fuji probably feels much more like a "real" camera. Decided to go to Sony a couple of years ago, and I'll stay with it. My cam is also taking good imagesm, but the Fuji strikes the emotional chord as well ...

What a wonderful love-declaration to this outstanding camera! Although for my semi-professionel landscape- and nature work I prefer my Nikon Z- full frame system with many lenses, I am very tempted to get this X100F for street photography, mountain hikes and for travelling light.
But would the newer X100V not be the better choice, except for the price?

    • @JakubChlouba
      @JakubChlouba  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Markus, thanks for your kind feedback. I think X100V has nicer simulations, a bit sharper lens, and autofocus works better. The question is if you value these features to pay the 500ish extra. :)
For street, mountain hikes, and traveling this camera is perfect!

Beg to differ on your final throw-a-way line - "versions X100 T and S ...have good simulations not as good as the newer cameras and the autofocus is probably not very good"...I have the T model ie the third iteration so enough time to sort out majority of issues. Have some good simulation choices already, but if you want to do just raw files and adjust in Lightroom or other app, less simulations is not even an issue. On autofocus, works fine. Suggest additional camera model refinements are to intice more sales, while even the very first model in the series was good enough to create a whole new genre of cameras (within the price bracket). So S and T probably good options. I have used this camera extensively for travel and street. Great little camera format for reasons you stated and am keeping it. However for general ease of uploading files to phone apps, for portability, being inconspicuous, and for general photo quality, phone cameras are getting harder to ignore.

You said that one of the camera's advantage is it's size, you can snap a photo easily and almost in an instant. But at 2:47, you also mentioned that you controlled your shots via manual mode. As a fan of street photography, do you have any advice on how to speed up setting up my camera to capture a moment faster? I'm also new to street photography so I'm very anxious on what people might think, so using manual mode takes a bit of time to do a shot. Thanks! +subbed!

    • @JakubChlouba

Hey Rey, that's a great question! What I would usually do is close the aperture to somewhere between 4 - 7, depending on the situation, and set a focus to around 1.5 meter. This way everything further from 1.5m will be fairly in focus.
I also set my shutter speed and Iso to the levels of the current environment I'm shooting. Test so I don't have to think about it for a while unless the light changes. Hope this helps :)

Sorry, to interrupt. I have very cost effective and reliefing solution for you, which I also use now after doing street photography daily from 2007 to 2021 will all kinds of cameras. It is called Ricoh GRD III. Not Ricoh GR III, but Ricoh GRD III. It is much smaller than Fuji X100 cameras, it has small senor (with good quality) and f1.9 lens. All you have to do is to set it to one meter snap focus and P for bright light. For low light it just S with 1/200 or shutter speed you like. ISO in Auto. It is so small, not only nobody takes you seriously, but people are offering to pose sometimes :) . Also less expensive and still small is any Olympus M43 camera you could find in E-P... series and Olympus 15mm f8 pancake.
