I live on a private property with a complex system of pipes, filters, and septic tanks. We do NOT flush anything except human waste and absolutely DO NOT dump animal grease/bacon/steak/meat residue down the sink because it destroys the entire intricate system
Yeah, it's disgusting - and since I've experienced smaller ones (a lot smaller) in my own pipes, I now try to limit the amount of oil that is flushed down by pouring it into an empty coke bottle, which when it's full is just tossed in the trash.
Maybe more needs to be done by the authorities in regard to commercial food kitchens for a start. A program to fit commercials eateries with a grease arrestor is a good start, the outlets monitored and owners charged accordingly, the higher the fat content then higher the price to process it at the treatment plants. This encourages the owner to have the arrestor regularly cleaned by reputable waste companies. Each arrestor has an electronic ID and is read randomly. Works here in the colonies well enough

A blockage like this domt happen overnight. If the sewers were properly maintained, by using high pressure water jetting to clean the system every two or so months, a big blockage like this wouldnt occur, and would be more cost effective
I use non-flushable baby wipes as a man. It feels great and they are huge and thick. I throw like 50 percent of the grease down the drain. In the end, I create jobs and jobs in the medical sector. These fatbergs are manufacturing super bugs.
