Dwight is by far my favorite country music artist. He honors the traditions of outlaw country while putting some rockabilly flair and his own style in his music. He puts a ton of emotion into everything he writes. I’d suggest listening to “I Sang Dixie”, “A Thousand Miles From Nowhere” and “Guitars, Cadillacs” for his original work. “Ring of Fire”, “Little Sister” and “Suspicious Minds” for his covers.
Edit to add that I see you already did Suspicious Minds, it would be cool to see your reaction to some of his original work.

Dwight Yoakam is underrated, IMO. I suggest listening to him sing "I Sang Dixie" and as others have said, he is one hell of an actor as well.

Lil story about Chris and Morgane and why she is always there with him....Chris has horrible stage fright and just wrote songs for other artists for yrs. Morgane who was and is a back up singer Chris met in a studio always wanted Chris to go out on his own because she knew he would be famous but he wouldnt because his stage fright was so bad. Finally he caved and he said he would do it on one condition...That condition was that she had to be on stage with him when performing to help him with his fright...In his early videos you can see that Chris never stops looking at Morgane when on stage...When he is doing that he is working through his fright. If you never have experienced stage fright it sucks. She helps him through it by keeping eye contact. He has gotten better over the years but some times you can still see him focusing on Morgane when on stage.

This was gret! With his skin-tight jeans, Dwight Yoakum was a member of the dropping club before it was called the pd club😂. Check out any of the DY song recommendations already made, along with the original version of this song by Ray and Willie. And I agree with what you said about the sun and clouds and angels. I was 4 when my grandmother passed, and that is what happened at her burial. I remember telling my dad, "Look up there. She's made it to heaven safe." And have made that association ever since. ❤

I think if Mz. Morgane wanted to be introduced along with Chris, she certainly would be. If you watch a concert, toward the end you'll see Chris sing out introductions of all the bandmembers. When he gets to Morgane he sings, "Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby, Baby." Sometimes he repeats that. Then he sings, "This is my lady." Then says, " She also happens to be my wife." Then sings, " Say hello to Mo-o-o-or-r-gane." Very sweet.

Two of the best singers and songwriters EVER, Ray Charles and Willie Nelson, first recorded this song (though they didn't write it). There are a lot of amazing renditions of this song, but these folks really capture the spirit of R&B giant Ray Charles and Country giant Willie Nelson. This song is pretty high on my auto-cry list, such a tragic love story.
My late friend, Slim, requested this for his funeral. He was Mexican from Texas, 35+ years older than me and I can't hear this without missing mi Estimado Amigo.
Dwight is My dude,,Favorite Country Artist. I have seen him about 6 times in Concert. Fun fact, this song had a remake back in the 1970's by a local Cincinnati country station called " 7 Newport Angels" Newport KY (across from Cincinnati) at that time was well known for the gambling joints and strip clubs, so put 2+2 together and you have an idea of the remix of the song. The radio station of course got sued over the whole thing.

The original by Willie and Ray Charles is fantastic, but my personal favorite version is a live performance by Jamey Johnson and Allison Krauss at an event honoring Willie Nelson. You should definitely see that performance when you get a chance. Nobody can sing pure, country music like Jamey and Allison..in my opinion 🙂

I would suggest reacting to "Dwight Yoakum & Buck Owens - Streets Of Bakersfield" I love this video Dwight is so happy to be able to play with his music hero and mentor. Bakersfield is in California and the Bakersfield sound developed in the 1950's and was created in the honky-tonks and bars, it was much grittier and was less polished and highly produced music that many felt country was becoming at the time. Bakersfield country drew on many aspects of rock n roll and rockabilly, predominantly a sub-genre of country music but had a big impact on country music today.
