the MGB (like the original mini) has a siamesed ported cylinder head. So 2 inlets for 4 cylinders, and 3 exhaust outlets for 4 cylinders, all of which are on the same side of the head. Whereas the Cortina has a cross flow head allowing much better flow and hence more power. Although i'd be inclined to say the MG has more torque.
