As someone learning data science, other than coding and maths one more important thing to know is domain knowledge and this depends on which field of DS you want to go for like pharma, business, banking etc. having domain knowledge will help you understand the results of what you find, and also help making communcating your results easier so if you have an interest in a certain domain do try to gain some high level surface knowledge about the field. that is why people who come non IT/maths background shouldnt feel discouraged as who knows your prior knowledge might prove beneficial later on. Good luck to anyone who wants to try out this field.
My Uncle is a software engineer in California and he told me that they do not offer Business Analyst and data analytics role to freshers. He even told me that most of the data science jobs are just overhyped and it is not a trending career options in US and India too.
I think AI and ML are going to be the new trends of the future if someone is talking specifically about CS and programming background. Data Science will be more domain specific and will be pursued primarily by Mathematicians and Statisticians.

There will be a lot of AI tools or softwares in making which will use data provided and convert into meaningful way using AI eliminating jobs of data science developers by large extent. Not saying all will be affected but definitely there will be an impact.
