I’ve got a couple of big research videos in the works, but have been wanting to share some thoughts in the meantime. What do you think about the black screen in this video- Does it suck? Is it acceptable/fine?
Whoever you are - I appreciate you!

I appreciate you as well sharing your thoughts.
Did enough people criticize the way you hold your mic to put a black screen?
      Sigh.........
      One day at a time...

@TaikenUchida41 - Haha, nah. It’s just hard for me to talk on camera, and since this essay was more formal I decided my awkward-ness was unnecessary. Ironically, I recorded this with my mic mounted lol! Thank you so much for your kind words, and for your time!!

@@HideousLogic I don't have much faith if people are to continue treating this like an arms race disguised as one for "prosperity", but for now I'm grateful that we can still post and share things without worrying too much about whether another person exists or not. It's certainly not the only thing that's been on my mind, but, eh...
Looking forward to future videos from ya. Don't let things bring you down, okay?
Oh, um, and I didn't really find anything awkward at all, here. You make your points very clear and concise!

@TaikenUchida41 - I agree! I feel like I might as well take advantage of this opportunity while I can, haha. Hopefully I can still laugh at this joke 10 - 20 years from now! I am definitely going to keep doing my thing, and I'm getting used to this new experience like you said, day by day. Thanks again for the support! It seriously means a lot.

I find the black screen sort of relaxing 👍

Nice! I find it relaxing because I can just talk without having to worry about my face or my posture, lol

I thought the video was not working for some reason so I refreshed 😅

@ACCESSZERO1 - Ah shoot! I was worried that would happen. If I pull this again I’ll probably throw a note up at the beginning. Thanks for letting me know!

I use an ad-blocker that sometimes causes issues with videos, and I thought I had a problem on my side. It was very confusing 😅
Besides that, I feel the video loses its human touch when you can't see the speaker. I like the idea as a once-in-a-while experiment, though 🙂

@drawaline279 - Ack! Sorry about that - I was hoping it would be relaxing or something, but it's the opposite! lol - Your feedback really means a lot, and I'll be keeping all of this in mind for the future!

I wish I was as optimistic as you, but I do not see how A(G)I leads to anything but utter dystopia. Capitalism by its very nature lifts up those most socio- and psychopathic amongst us, and those are the ones who have the reign over A(G)I - among every other lever of power. Not to mention that the technology itself is anything but perfect and I'm not sure whether its shortcomings can even be fixed.

@TheDoubleBee - To be frank, my gut feeling/perspective is absolutely purely cynical, and my optimism is very "forced", but I'm trying my best to be balanced and inclusive with my views, for better, or for worse. In some ways, it feels just as hard to completely write things off, as it does to just accept the brutal reality of things. I know there are people, beyond the salesmen, that truly believe in the positive potentials of AI. Life is weird.

Honestly, I think it is still too early to theorize about the topic and unfortunately most of the discussion is happening in a sphere that knows little about the technical details and the true capabilities of state of the art AI. Aside from setting a few general guidelines regarding usage of AI in surveillance and war, we should let the process run its course and re-evaluate as we progress.

I think emphasizing the overly optimistic promises of AI is kind of a straw man argument. I work in the field and most people do not have those rosy visions of utopia that you have referenced, or at least they are not primarily motivated by it. We work on the problems because they are scientifically interesting. That of course is not an excuse to sleep-walk into disaster, but it might illuminate the discussion a bit.

@@agrajag24 I appreciate your perspective, because like you mentioned, it is very early to be making actual predictions (and assumptions) about much of anything. You're points are pertinent, and I will definitely be integrating them into my thought processes. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts - it really means a lot.

But AI is starting to have a big impact today. Therefore we should evaluate and think about AI impact today also and not just in the future.

    • @HideousLogic

@@Laszer271 Yes, exactly! We should absolutely be looking into the microscope, so we can all talk about what we see. Consumer sight is just as important as scientific sight in a lot of ways, in this situation.
