That jab at Linus in the intro was fantastic. I always enjoy the fact that a lot of the tech you-tubers (Gamers Nexus, Jay, Linus, Kyle etc) are in business sense competitors, yet they do a ton of joint projects, and support each other. Just refreshing imo.
It's really not competition. They arent competing for your money like say plumbers compete for your bathroom remodel. You can watch one youtuber and then watch the other after and it cost you nothing. "Competition" in their job is nothing like in orher fields

It's great seeing Wendall on your show Steve. I built a dual xeon server with an ASRock RACK motherboard and used to watch Wendall's videos on setting up a NAS server, configuring users and groups, setting up iSCSI, NFS, and SMB shares. What an experience. I was fascinated with the 14 onboard SATA ports (several of which were SATAII and not SATAIII). Now using SAS drives on both an internal LSI controller for my two 8 drive vdevs in my Pool, and an external LSI controller with an Expander for my 24 bay JBOD. Look at how fast things are changing... Love the show.

Ever since Wendell mentioned ZFS, I've been reading about it compared to other file systems and volume managers. This is stuff that was dry in college but exciting once you can apply it in real life
Wendell and Anthony operate on a whole different level to the rest of the tech TH-cam space. Wendell presumably because he’s an actual IT consultant who happens to make excellent videos, and Anthony because he is The Chosen One so of course he knows his stuff

What I love about Wendell is that he takes approachable solutions to consideration. Linus is all about "let's throw money at it!". Sometimes you don't have all the money but need to kind of work with what you have and make best of it. Wendell is a hacker and that is what tech people truly need. Linus tickles the side of tech enthusiasts more. And yes, there is a difference. Tech people get stuff because they need it, tech enthusiasts get stuff because its shiny. Not saying shiny is bad but it does reach very different goal.

Sata Express(aka "Serial Advanced Technology Attachment Next" I guess) utilizes two PCI-e lanes for speeds up to 10 Gb/s in PCI-e 2.0 or 16 Gb/s in PCI-e 3.0.
As someone who has an ITX addiction that I can neither explain or defend it was nice to see a real world ITX build. They aren't just like a full or mid tower build just smaller. Plan on taking a lot of time, even days as you saw parts just don't fit even with the best laid plans. One note Steve, while I love the very high level of knowledge that you bring to the table. I've been in computers since the C64 and can't keep up with all the acronyms and initializations that fly out in your videos. Maybe you could invent something automated to drop a cheat sheet into the video description based on those used in the video? Love the channel.

I'm honestly starting to get really sick of them randomly shilling LTTstore in the middle of videos for no other reason than to shill LTTstore. They should do what GN does: "buy" ad spots from themselves and keep the ad in the ad portion of the video. It's also okay to do it mid video when, for example, GN does a video card teardown and mentions you can buy the mat he's working on. Those are at least relevant. Linus interrupting random videos to tell me to buy a hoodie is straight up bullshit.

I started out on the team in the US Army that wrote the first parameter in COBOL on their IBM System/36 with a whopping 512 kB of usable storage, expandable to 640 with a Frisbee-sized floppy disk that was literally floppy, to download data to a Honeywell DAS-3. We had 53 user terminals and had to run a purex on it at the end of each week along with a couple dump and debugs during said weeks.

why would they not JBOD it? The standard for this type of operation is zfs for software raid, and glusterfs nodes if scaling with multiple disk shelves
@@borisyeltsin6606 the branded shelves have optimized firmware to work with the vendor software. they work better with the software they are optimized for and tend to cause some "undesirable behaviors" if you swap the disks for off the shelf it's slightly better but you have to watch the modules too.

@@borisyeltsin6606 the branded shelves have optimized firmware to work with the vendor software. they work better with the software they are optimized for and tend to cause some "undesirable behaviors" if you swap the disks for off the shelf it's slightly better but you have to watch the modules too.
