I think you could just have placed wheels on the middle and detectors right on top of them (bar on the top of the bot) and then let it detect if it found black, in wich case it would stop the wheel. This transforms wheel in pivot points set at the inner corner of each turn. It seemed obvious to me but I guess this just shows how we think differently as individuals.

The fun thing with making a series with a game like this is that if you get stuck, you could limit yourself to suggestions from the viewers.

the 6 wheeled thing you were on about is called a big trak i think. bit before my time but i remember them getting a revival a few years ago

on the 2nd mission why don't add the sensors o the bottom and move the wheels down with the metal bar thing

reminds me logic programming combined whit Robot Arena 2, i can imagine robot fighting whit AI made out of logic system and some programming
I remember having to program something like this with the Lego Brick using Java.
