In terms of whether cycling around Outer Circle at 29mph is safe... the speed limit for cars on that road was 30mph until 2020, when it was decreased to 20mph along with the rest of central London. Susan Hall (the Conservative candidate for Mayor) would have increased the limit back to 30 if she had been elected. If a 2000 kg car is considered safe at 20 then a bike weighing a fraction of that is surely safe at 29. Deaths due to cyclists are incredibly rare, and if the Royal Parks want to improve the safety of the Outer Circle road then they should target their efforts on the drivers who continue to flout the speed limit.
Also, pedestrians aren't really weaker than cyclists. If the cyclist was 80+ years old and hit a 25 year old dude, guess who would survive. We should just be careful around vulnerable people.

@@TheShane12341234 In the UK all speeds on roads have be in miles per hour and distances on road signs are measured in miles. The UK uses metric units for everything except road speeds/distances (miles), draught beer and cider (pints), and precious metal weighting (troy ounces).

Thanks Emily for advocating less battery usage on bicycles. Maybe it's working good, but 99% of all cyclists are completely fine equipped with wired shifting. Simplicity is the buzzword as you already mentioned.

A bee hit me in the chest once and I just didn't think anything of it. It then crawled inside my shirt and stung me on the nipple. Imagine seeing someone pull over on their bike in front of your house, ripping off their shirt, screaming "GET IT OFF GET IT OFF".

I find when it's hot , here in southern Italy, I open my zip on my cycling top more, and bee's and wasp's get caught inside as I ride! Not good, so I try to wear light weight tops , airiated, so I dont have to undo my zip!
Holy cow like 3 days ago I got a bee in my unzipped jersey and then under my bib strap and had to remove the cheeky little striped lad by hand at decent speed.
@@jonadevitt359 I rode straight into a swarm of easily a couple hundred bees 2 weeks ago. A bit of a panic moment, but nothing bad happened, a few got stuck to my jersey and bib shorts, so I shook those off, but they weren't aggressive at all and weren't stinging. Probably just migrating to a new nest. Honestly, I would rather I got stung by a bee or a wasp than get bitten by a horse fly.
I was stung on the tongue whilst cycling. I count myself lucky as had it gone down my throat I could have been in serious trouble. Even so, being stung on the tongue was like having toothache in every tooth and intense pain in my tongue for over an hour.
One of my bikes has 20 year old dura ace on it. If it was electronic, batteries would no longer be in production and I would need to retire it. All batteries should be built to open standards to avoid obsolescence and waste.
Reducing cars in cities is just like smoking bans, you can’t understand the benefits till it happens! I took a trip to Nanning China last year where conventional motorcycles have been banned and at least half the cars are electric. The reduction in noise was unbelievable. Fewer cars would make many outdoor activities more enjoyable.
yup...just the noise alone woudl be nice. Doesn't really help on a motorway as most sound is coming from tyres...wonder if they can make super silent tyres though? But yes...if cities want to find ways to encourage people to come back to visiting them....removing the incessant noise is one of them. But then a lot of people wearing in ear things so probaly don't realise as much how shit it is (possibly subconsciously they all do with wearing inears)

Floro clothing is only effective in sunlight because it relies on UV light, so retro reflective is a lot more effective after sunset.
I was considering doing Strava segments during a hurricane with a sick tailwind. Is that dangerous cycling, just plain awesome, or both?

Yeah you know most of the KoMs on popular flat segments were set in extremely favourable winds. You're racing the weather more than anyone else.
The only time I go for KOMs is when the winds are right, otherwise there’s no point in trying.
Just to annoy all the roadies in my area I went out on a motorbike and bagged all the best KoMs and segment times for 20 miles in every direction. That is until someone else has the same idea.

You need better knee warmers if they are slipping down. They would have the sticky thing and then they are also being held there by the elastic of the knicks too.
Each to their own though. I'm not going to gatekeep 3/4. I actually think they look frikkin amazing. But I'll stick to knee or leg warmers that I can take off if it warms up on long rides

More importantly though, it is probably the only bike show that I am aware of that actually report, confirm, and even in some cases retract, on bike news. I think that your efforts on proper reporting alone should have gotten you recognition.
I freaking love my 3/4 length thermal knickers. I've had them for ages and use them from late fall to early spring all over Lancaster county Pennsylvania where I live now. When it's colder I wear tall socks to fill the gap when it's milder the lil bit of air is nice.
Also they're pretty good for winter mountain biking when I want something to cover my legs and I wear baggies over them.
Great podcast! Listening to you all describing the realities of riding around in your areas makes me appreciate what we have now in Montreal Canada. From being allowed to use the race track during the season to the year round cycling infrastructure built up over the last 10+ years, we have it so good.

I think we cyclists need to use common sense. Just because there is a segment, doesn’t mean you should do it. What was a great segment five years ago it’s probably now a higher traffic area. Some segments and areas just need to be laid to rest unfortunately. Our local club is now enforcing full stops at stop signs even for races because we are using open roads and still need to obey traffic laws.

There are no "queries" to it. As confirmed by the police - the cyclist did nothing wrong, so who cares which side some youtuber, who doesn't even know the exact details of the accident, takes. The speed is largely irrelevant too as the collision would have likely had the same outcome had he been riding at the speed limit or even below. The accident was caused entirely by the pedestrian who had chosen to cross the road without ensuring it was safe to do so. For her and for the cyclist alike as he could have been seriously injured too. It is only in the media because for some odd reason cycling in this country is such a massively polarising subject so the media are milking it for views and clicks by fuelling the fire. If she had been hit by a car there wouldn't be a single mention of it in the media because peds getting hit and injured in collisions with cars are a daily occurrence and nobody cares anymore.
Mixture of both high viz and reflective elements. Regardless of when you are riding daylight or dark, you can be noticed. If you are commuting with a back-back, you can get high viz and reflective waterproof covers that pull over your pack.
I saw an old lady in a nursing home who had been a big time rider before WWII. She couldn't see why anybody needed more than three speeds!

Strava segments do encourage dangerous riding. I know someone who targets off-road segments on BW's and canal towpaths, which are shared with other users such as walkers. The speed they ride some of these segments (just to take a KOM) is crazy dangerous
Same where I live - we have segments on "shared" cycle and pedestrian roads, and some people attempt to KOM them during the daytime, when children and elderly people are there. Yes, the infrastructure itself is not safe - it's a shared path after all, but having a segment there just increases the number of some not very smart people who might feel tempted to ride there on crazy speeds. Though I have to give kudos to local Strava community- they name some of those segments like “Be mindful of pedestrians!” Or “Warning! Kids!”, but I don’t think it is working as intended.
I agree. I have wondered if Strava could time gate the segments though. Like at 6am when it's mostly empty, go for it. At 11am, no segments counted
Totally agree, there is this trend of ‘ I must be the fastest’ my bike is the lightest my clothing cost the most in road cycling. I ride a Focus Atlas gravel bike around Richmond park and I will nod or acknowledge others riders and I would say 98% of road bike riders totally ignore me. I toured through France last year and every cyclist would say hello or nod as we passed! The segments thing is just a huge bragging rights thing and no one really cares, truly. Shared paths and roads are not closed circuit race tracks so you must ride with care and caution for both your safety and other users
@@livinginsyn4814 Strava cannot even recognize E-bikers who upload rides with basically the exact same segment times EVERY day of the week. The motor has the same power every day, of course. So they won't figure out when which path is safe to ride fast. They won't figure out anything.
Should cancel racing too, how dare people try be faster than others. Basically ban everyone with common sense because of a few that don't have it. How stupid and soft is the world getting. Maybe strava should just give everyone a participation medal?
I understand that many people are very interested in the highest level of tech, but there are many reasons why I'm contemplating running friction bar end shifters on my next build. I agree with Emily, batteries are a faff.

In the US they had a car racing series called IROC (International Race of Champions) where drivers raced identically-prepared stock cars set up by a single team of mechanics. The drivers were from different disciplines (NASCAR, Indy, …, basically different North American racing series). It ran from the 70s through 2007.
You can cycle on GTA 5 with a smart trainer! I have done it in the past and might go back to it as I've just paused my Zwift due to the price hike/decent weather. I bought the Zwift play controllers and apparently they now work on GTA 5 as well!
As a mountain biker, full service on a fork can be done by select shops, but most people don't need to do that annually. For most people you are not sending that off the manufacture all that often. A lower service is generally annual, but that can be done by more local mountain bike specific shops and isn't that bad.
A lower leg service should be done after every 50 hours of riding, or annually if you haven't reached the 50 hour time frame.

I ride into work with Pro viz jacket and 3/4 lengths pretty much every day and am loving life. Underrated.
I used to have an aero-ish helmet (few vents in the back) and keep my hair buzzed really short. The number of times I had bugs crawling along my scalp flying down a decent was maddening and they couldn't escape the helmet due to the lack of vents. Ended up riding with a skull-cap under my helmet, and ultimately got a more ventilated helmet to solve the problem.
Love my 3/4 bibs... way better than knee warmers for slightly cooler days but not full on winter tights weather. I use knee warmers for days when it'll start or finish cool but warms up in the middle of the day, but I hate them, every single time. I am old with rubbish knees though
If your wanting drive a 10T and also a 34T cog set, you will be giving up some larger ratio steps in the middle (where you ride most of the time) with fewer cog steps. 15-17 or 17-19T steps are too wide a jump when near the limits for me. 13 cogs has a better chance at smoothing out the jumps. 14 speed like some of the more exotic creations may be the sweet spot.
3/4 bib tights are the best. Assos has their climate codes from 1-3. I use 1 in the summer and 2 in the spring / fall. The spring fall bib is 3/4 length with a thin thermal layer. Way better than leg warmers, and they breath well enough to wear on days when it warms up while riding. Definitely not overrated.
I always prefer over dressed to underdressed. Im thin and if I start getting cold its hard to warm up.
I live in Miami Fl and did a ride done to a place called Flamingo in Everglades National Park. I had stopped to change my water bottles around (2 extra in a saddle bag) and in the 2 min it took me, my arm was completely covered in mosquitos. Completely covered. I could no see skin. Think the scene from "Lilo and Stitch" where the one alien is in awe that a mosquito has chosen him for it's perch. And then another comes. And then more. And then his whole body is covered. Truly terrifying. I got it swapped as fast as possible and then took off. Fast.
Also, we have those horse flies here as well, and bug spray does nothing against them. They just seem to think it is a flavour enhancer.
Re segments, I've actually written in to Strava support about this. Around my area there's a bunch of motorways where the law explicitly forbids cycling and that's quite understandable. Lo and behold they all have segments and leaderboards, which prompt more people to try to ride on them. Obviously this isn't very good, since you're riding in the emergency lane with traffic going 120+ km/h around you. Strava said that I can mark all of them as dangerous (manually). Mind you this is around 50 segments across each motorway (that I know of, there might be more) totalling somewhere near 800km. So I asked if they can bulk flag them across a map but they ghosted me... I get that they can't be held responsible for user created segments, but there should be more features for safety.
If people are willing to compromise their own safety, but it’s not really endangering other people, then I wouldn’t waste my time worrying about them if I were you. It’s putting stress on yourself that you don’t have to, and we all could use less stress in our lives. It is harsh, but natural selection will weed out the less wise people.
Being able to suggest an edit for a reason would be great. So many of our segments end at stop signs leading to busy roads. Having them stop 75-150ft before the stop sign would be safer all around

52:40 I liked the idea of colour coding, so have some bolts, cable ends, valve caps in different colours, because my bike at the time didn't have a stand out colour scheme. But I tend to find more fun into purposefully mismatching colours, to be honest. So yes, I wanna bring a bit of colour to the bike, but colour matching seems way to stylish.
3/4 bibs are best. I do not even own long ones. If really needed I put on long socks.
My biggest bug problem is giant clouds of gnats. There's a section on one of my regular ridges that I dread every time because it gets hard to breathe.
After your bit on bugs I'm thinking of switching my sun screen to the kind that also includes bug spray.
Living is Australia, 3/4 length is great in winter as its not cold enough to go full length early morning when you not taking off knee warmers mid ride.
I was tempted to use Zwift but double the price of a WoW sub? Fuck no.

I hate knee warmers, but heavyweight 3/4 bibs in the late fall/winter are the dog’s bollocks - a great midway between summer shorts and full-on winter layers
3/4s are no good on those days when it’s too cold for just shorts in the early hours, but then my midday it’s way too hot for anything covering the knee.
As R&D engineer, though not bicycle industry: In larger shops patents are drawn and written by a different department. Who sometimes are lazy and repurpose drawings, old and new - so don’t “see” too much into them. Further, patent application starts before engineerig, i.e. not like described after establishing feasibility. There’s also some expectation of you to patent if in doubt, and patent as much as possible (which could influence your bonus or career outlook); of course to exclude competition, too.

I think the gp racing they were describing (teams based on countries) was A1 GP…quite some years ago now.
10:36 SRM Battery -- it had a 3,000 hour battery life then upgraded to 3,500 hour battery -- if you average 700 hours per year which gives my 10,000 per year I would have to send it in every 4-5 years. I'm pretty sure you could find a time to send it to SRM for 1 week out of 208 weeks or 260 weeks. I still have an SRM power meter from 2009 that works without issues and I used it on my 600km on May 18th. It's German so it's perfect 🙃 really as a bike shop owner the SRM battery conversation was a non-starter once you explained the numbers to a customer. Most people don't ride 700 hours per year by the way so most customers got many many many years before needed to part with it for a week.
And you prove my point at 12:30 when talking about the watch batteries needing to be changed based on 15 hours/week which is 780 hours for 52 weeks and the less than 1% of riders :-)
Ticks are the worst for me. Counted one summer I got a total of 20 ticks over the course of my day rides. Something about sitting at the side of a field eating some food and chilling in the sunshine. I took a mate along for about a quarter of those rides and they've reported nothing...
The Strava segment question is an interesting one. I would categorize it as segments encourage you to push limits, which unfortunately may involve the limits of safety. Am I more likely to consider running a stop sign or light when pursuing a segment? Absolutely. Although I personally will choose to abandon the effort at that point, but that's probably because I'm too slow for it to matter anyway. 😅
A lot of MTB riders will do their own fork/shock service. Most of it is pretty simple if you have a modicum of skill.
Zwift or some kind of training app is almost essential (because rollers are straight from hell) when you live where there is show on the ground 6 months of the yr and it's freezing for 9.
I feel like more companies should do summer weight bib tights! I spend most of the year looking like neapolitan ice cream with my tan lines!
Maybe England and Europe are different, but in the US, generally, if you are on a road, you are supposed to be help to a speed limit.
The original Proviz was a sweat bucket to wear… I think the newer ones are more breathable. If cycling at night they are awesome, you light up light a Christmas tree and cars definitely give you a wide berth even if carrying good lights.

My wife commutes to her work (in construction) and always does it in 3/4 or full length as she doesn’t want to turn up to work in shorts. They are underrated and much less available.
Sure its not a backup battery, so you can swap main Batterys without stoping as in a race?
About the 13 speed groupsets... 11, 12 or 13 doesn't change that much, but if one day we can have a 15 or more speed groupset, it could totally make the front mech obsolete, and I'm all for that. A 15 speed cassette with nice progression would be ideal on a 1x, not only for gravel but road as well. A 48 tooth chain ring paired with a 11/50 cassette would be the equivalent of a compact crankset with a 11/36 cassette, at least close enough for me to ditch the front mech.
I saw the Zwift price increase, immediately cancelled. Don’t give a shit about Zwift points/ levels etc. it’s training for irl in winter and bad weather days. Stupid time for the price hike. I’ll be amazed if it makes more money for them overall.
Agreed, $20 is ridiculous. I paid $150 for the year, now IF I stay with Zwift, I’ll only pay for 4 months of winter ($80) due to the price change.
I did exactly the same. I was weighing up whether it was worth it before the price hike and then they made my mind up for me.
The day cycling brands do something as nuts as programmed redundancy or servicing it's time to drop them completely. My first gen Di2 battery charges the whole groupset and lasts about 15k (half a year) depending on how much I change...obviously. Blows my mind how people are happily accepting that they have to charge new groupset batteries every 2 weeks. Or 1. 25 hours. 25 frikkin hours? You kidding me? My phone lasts longer than that.
Modern battery that weights 25grams lasts 25hours (50grams for both). Old Di2 battery that weights 68grams (and charges both derailleurs AND shifters) lasts 6 months.
The only issue I have with the battery is that it needs a dedicated charger and not a direct USB port of some sort, C or Micro. Then if you actually do get caught out it's pretty damn easy to find someone to help you.
Also...that di2 battery is 12years old now and after 150k of shirting still lasts just as long as it did when new...which is pretty nuts. Might have degraded a bit...I'm not actually checking when I charge...but it isn't quick enough it's noticeable.
Its two AA sized rechargeable batteries. If you can solder there is a video on YT that shows you how to replace them should you need to. All the electronics remain the same.
I got a flat tyre in the wood last year. Couldnt fix it bc of loads of mosquitos. Fast pumping till it got flat and repeat. Got back home after midnight. amazing ride though
I don't have a problem with segments that are on uninterrupted sections of road where motor traffic will be going at somewhat similar speeds. Segments that go through traffic lights are a problem though. I once smashed myself up a hill trying to beat my previous time, only to realise that the end of the segment was on the other side of a very busy junction and the light was red.
Surely Strava can use AI to identify when a segment is dangerous and either remove it or restrict the start and finish points.
Most segments go through traffic lights! I mean are we going to have to suffer a warning on every segment created that isn't uninterrupted saying 'ensure you obey all road rules' on strava? Or is there an expectation that no-one breaks the law?
Trusting AI to decide what is dangerous or not. SMH. AI already blocks half of my comments on Instagram because it thinks i'm spamming. Trusting AI for anything is beyond stupid at this point.
And even if you have a human deciding...why is any segment dangerous? Because there are lights? Because certain cyclists dont stop at lights? A KOM might be set in the middle of the night when all lights are green. It's not up to Strava to monitor how anyone following tries to break that KOM.
Frankly I ride as had as I can for average speed rather than KOMs, given half of them are group, wind assisted or fresh times (not discounting there are stupid strong riders...but that there are many variables that would stop me getting them). So any red light I do run isn't to beat a KOM, half the time it isn't even to keep my average up...but because it takes a lot of effort to get a bike going again at speed, if there are no cars around and the pedestrian that hit the button has also broken the law and jaywalked, I don't see the point in waiting at lights that me on a bike can't trigger, or sitting at the front of a bunch of cars lined up that often close pass me to get in front coz they can't be stuffed waiting.
There's plenty...plenty of reasons to run reds...chasing a KOM is almost at the bottom of that list.

whats interesting about the sticker price contract law discussion, is that its the opposite in America. If the store labels, lists, or advertises a product at a certain price, that is considered an offer of sale, as oppossed to the uk invitation to treat.
Same for EU (or at least BE). The price listed is what the price has to be sold at. If a store owner has labeled wrong pricing that's a loss (or a win) for the store/seller...
Not necessarily. Retail price laws are governed by the states so there's some variance. Most of them have exceptions for mistakes, like accidentally putting on a wrong price, they just need to fix it quickly.

what they do here is advertise something at a low price, and then in very small print it will say _only one at this price_ so it's just a marketing gimmick.
I once looked if there were any segments I could try and get a " leader board score", I was surprised to see almost all average speeds to be around 60 Km/h and this even at schools, parks, hospitals and all sorts of places with a 30 Km/h speed limit.

3/4 length bib tights are completely under-rated. I run hot and unless the temperature is around freezing the 3/4 bib tights are my go to choice.
The only down side is that they can ride up the calf a bit if I let the leg hair get a bit too long.

I think people were just saying the AI sounded like someone who phonetically learned his lines and not a spanish speaker, and nothing to do with western sterotypes.

I immediately canceled my Zwift with the price increase ($25 cad), however I would agree that the timing maybe makes more sense because now that it's summer I would've canceled anyways, in this case maybe I did one month early, and come winter I won't be as annoyed about it.
But this all being said, I doubt I will run my subscription for as long during the winter months. If there was a huge new feature unlock, maybe I could justify it more, but $25/mo is getting ridiculous, especially since every subscription is more money these days.

Biggest downside of more gears that rarely gets mentioned is needing to replace chains more often since the wear range is smaller. If you're running wax and never wearing out parts, sure, but if it's assumed that you're running a regular oil setup then it doesn't seem worth it to go up past 11 speed with that downside. Maybe I'm misinformed about how much more frequently you need to replace higher-speed chains (I haven't used 12spd).
Also at 40:30 this is exactly the logic in The Netherlands. The reason it's one of the best places to drive as well as cycle is because once half the population is on bikes, it frees up a ton of road for space-inefficient cars. The thing is, this requires much heavier disincentivising of driving than you have in the UK (mostly with taxation). In that vein you also need an informal agreement as a society to use cars more so out of necessity vs because you feel like driving. --- I moved to NL around 6 months ago and have ridden like 50k km's back in the UK, so I've been super interested in comparing how they organise their infrastructure to create the transport culture they have vs the UK

my shimano 12 speed mountainbike chains are the longest lasting of all my bikes, compared to 11 speed shimano.
Chains are actually built to a higher quality across the price range with more gears at the back. 10s chains outlast 9s, 11s outlasts 10s and so on.
The tech in chains, material science, surface coating etc has outstripped the increase in speeds, and so high quality 12 speed are the longest lasting chains ever made, but, 20/11/12 speed all have the same side plate dimensions, so the same wear surfaces. A move to 13 speed will be the first reduction in the fundamental strength of the chain structure as the space between the teeth is so small. 12 speed might be the peak, but I'll stick with 11 speed for now.
Was on a 400km audax on Saturday, riding along, minding my own business and looked down to see a wasp just sat chilling on my glove on my right hand. My shriek wasn't too chilled. Managed to shake it off.
Some of the KOMs in my area are quite insane. Like, I hope the KOM-er used spotters in blind turns, but I seriously doubt so. I can't imagine how some of those times could have been performed safely without closing the road/path to pedestrians, cars and other cyclists (especially in case of narrow descends). Not even mentioning road speed limits (which do apply to cyclists in a lot of places). It probably shouldn't be Strava's place to police this stuff, but I don't think it is unreasonable for authorities to request removal of segments in an area where they are causing issues.

Middle of the night? New Years Day. Christmas. There are plenty of times everywhere that you can set crazy koms you couldn't anywhere else.
I don't think authoritise have a right to request removal. It is their responsibility to police bad behaviour and enforce the law. Not monitor data collection services. What about longer segments that have one part of them going through that problematic area? cut them too? Where do you stop? And it isn't going to stop people pushing themselves because then there is average speed that cyclists like to keep up too.
I imagine if Strava started doing this, at some point an alternate program or list or something will pop up and be created.
I'm not saying there aren't dipshit cyclists that dont give a fuck about anyone else and pedestrian safety....and I've no issue with them being charged with legit dangerous cycling. I see it all the time in Melbourne on the promenade outside Crown Casino....busy pedestrian (kids too) area and cyclists weaving in and out of them at a decent speed. And these aren't good cyclists often but people that jump on their bike ont he weekend with the family. Or escooters with two people.
If they made zwift more like a game people will complain that it’s not serious enough for them. Maybe if they had an option to choose game or training mode, that would help.

There is a Strava segment on one of my regular rides that “encourages” blowing through a Stop sign.
This is just going to mean Segments are going to need to be policed by the platform.

I cancelled my Zwift immediately, £12.99 was really expensive anyway and then they just decided to take the piss, £17.99 is outrageous for something that basically costs nothing to provide.
This tragedy where the cyclist killed that woman is one of the reasons I avoid the mixed use paths around here a lot. Sometimes it's nice to jump on one if I'm intentionally trying to slow boat around a bit to catch my breath or just enjoy the day, but, if I'm actually out there training it's just not terribly safe to have me jamming around at high speeds when people are walking dogs or listening to music so loud they can't hear me coming or whatever else.
Nothing wrong with being competitive, its a good and healthy outlet for lots of people.
Re: 13 speed Di2, the extra cog means closer ratios for 1x setups, which is nice for those that run them.
13sp for the road is a solution in search of a problem. The advantages of 1x (reduced weight/complexity, better “aero”) are marginal, and cannot compare to the close ratios and range of 2x12. FDs are pretty good

Gotta get to a point where it's just a CVT? system. I get the closer shifts are nice...but 15sp is better than 13 then...and so...do we suddenly either start building bikes with wider stays ...or even thinner chains...which frankly..is just perplexing that we are at 13 and having the amount of watts going through a thinner chain...not being spread as much, and wearing quicker (i'm assuming that's how it works...the wider the displacement of power the less wear)
@@chrishurley5711 The point is, 1x is a self-inflicted limitation, given that 2x already offers a superior combination of close ratios and range. 13sp to "fix" 1x is like the bandaid to "fix" the bleeding toe that I got because I insisted on kicking that rock in flip-flops. The smarter move is to stick with 2x (ie, not to kick the rock in the first place)
1x is great to use compared with double. Once you’ve used it for a long time, a double is a faff. I have a double too for when I don’t want the big jumps but 90% of the time, 1x is perfect - nice and simple.
The knee and arm warmers from Pactimo in the US are not one-size-fits-all; they're XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL Makes a huge difference and I wouldn't have them if they were one-size-fits-all. The XL works for me on the knee; for the arm warmer, I have the XL for the length but the L probably would be better on diameter. Still pretty good and in practice they're held in place nicely by your jersey.
