    I feed Tops pellets...alfalfa leaf, millet, rice, sunflower seeds, sesame seed, quinoa, pumpkin and buckwheat plus lots more. My GCC loooooves her pellets so much. I've learned so much from you. I bailed out on Harrisons because of you. I use your cookbooks, feeding systems and tiny toys. I really appreciate you all.....and yes the birdie bread recipe is awesome. Brilliant idea to save pellet dust in the bread....yay!

      Same I've asked them about hagen Harri pellets I was using before but Hari has peanuts in it. I asked Bird Tricks and they told me TOP's is good - ok I assumed it but after talking to them I've decided to start feeding TOP's, and man...Bruno my Quaker loooooves those pellets. I still have leftover Harri I am using as a treat, but he eats TOP's like vacuum cleaner. Now I wonder if i am not feeding too much. But he really loves it and his feathers started to be shinier - although he is just 1yo so he is still molting some of his old, grayer feathers.

      Harrisons used to be a great pellet with millet and spirulina. They changed their formulas a while back and now their maintenance formula is corn and soy based like the rest, albeit Harrisons uses organic soy and corn (given the new normal that non-organic soy and corn produced in the USA is all GMO and so contains foreign lectins and also is specifically grown with drenching with Roundup, there is a huge danger of feeding non-organic). Long term, I fear that the corn/soy diet is detrimental to parrots even if organic. My parrots hated the taste of the new formula and refuse to eat Harrisons maintenance formula. They do eat the high intensity formula which now is kind of like the original, maintenance formula (but with corn and soy thrown in for profit margin). I now buy the high intensity formula but only now use it as a supplement to fresh veggie chop and a dehydrated veggie/flower mix I blend myself with some nuts and seeds. I also offer Tops/Birdtricks pellets but my parrots prefer the Harrisons. Summary is that the most vibrant pet parrots are on a fresh veggie based diet supplemented with pellets, nuts and seeds which is the opposite of what the avian veterinarians preach which is a 70 to 100% pellet diet with a bit of greens and seeds.

    I will admit that even as a long-time bird owner I wasn't giving my sweet Cockatiel the best life possible. When I learned there was so much more I went out and bought Zupreem natural pellets to convert her over from an all seed diet. It took her a week. Then I bought the BT pellets and it took her 3 days to eat them over Zupreem. Haven't looked back since because training with treats makes life so much easier for us both!

    100% on this video. I adopted a 15 year old DYH Amazon who had been on junk seed. It took 6 months of frustration and dedication, but he is now finally eating the seasonal feeding system and your pellets. It definitely takes patience, but I'm so glad we stuck with it.

    I live in the Netherlands and can't ship your pellets here, but thanks to your costumer service I feed Tops pellets for more than a year now. This along with the seasonal feeding system and training keeps my parrots in great condition. The vet was even surprised by how healthy they are compared to other parrots she sees.
    The project bird I have now (an orange winged amazon) took only 3 days to get on a good diet while they said he was a really picky eater and would only eat a certain seed mix. No veggies or fruit. But now he loves his pellets and veggies! He gets so excited when it's time for food, so cute to see!

    For any international bird friends, TOP'S parrot pellets are VERY similar, all organic ingredients, both pellets have very similar, almost identical ingredient lists, cold pressed as well, they even come in different sizes for small birds, but if you can, I def recommend supporting BirdTricks brand too, because have you ever met peopke who love and respect all birdkind as much as these guys?! I certainly haven't, I'd be a TERRIBLE budgie owner if not for them, but all 3 of my little boys are well-trained, have an excellent diet, and are soo much healthier than when they came to me, learning how to make good "chop" and training and getting them on a good diet wouldn't have happened without the BirdTricks fam! Lol

      Thank you for this comment! We usually get harrisons (which i suspect is the second brand she is reading the ingredients from) because I thought that was the best that was available in Iceland. But I have now found a selller for TOPS and it doesn't even cost more per weight.

      Tops is the same. One of their marketing strategies is to print labels for internet parrot brands. Marlene McCohen also has a label with Tops. The Marlene, mix, for example, might include Tops pellets mixed with a bit of Tops seed and then Marlene can market it as her mix. The BirdTricks brand is just the Tops pellets with the BirdTricks label. My problem with the Tops pellets is the excessive amount of alfalfa. That is my educated opinion that the alfalfa is excessive for most parrot species.
      I agree with JamieLeigh that the GMO, glyphosate-sprayed corn, soy and wheat is not a good base for any parrot species. The Tops smell great and my parrots ate them immediately which is amazing, however, they would not touch them after that. My hypothesis is that although my three species loved the taste, they then all got tummy aches or such. That is the only thing I can think. That said, there are many testimonials on the internet of parrots loving the taste and doing great on Tops pellets as part of a varied diet with fresh chop, nuts and seeds. I also use Harrisons and Roudybush but have lately gotten very educated and motivated about fresh veggie and green chop and making that the base of the diet. In the short term, most parrots look and feel good on the the corn/soy/synthetic vitamin pellets relative to being on an all seed diet but the most vibrant and healthy parrots on the internet are the ones eating chop.

      Yes, TOPs is great and so is Bird Tricks brand. All organic and no soy or filler! No sugar! My birds WANT to eat it and they actually get excited about it. Their poop looks good and I know they’re not getting fatty liver disease because they eat only fresh chop, sprouts, and organic fresh pressed pellets, and that’s it (ok sometimes the occasional almond and a little bit of egg yolk cooked, but that’s IT!)

    I have to be honest, when I first saw your pellets, I thought "Why would I feed my bird goat food?" This was way back when you first introduced them to your faithful followers. The pellets even smell like goat, rabbit, hamster food. But then you explained all the health benefits. Now, I buy a bag about once every 3 to 6 months. My stubborn, picky eater, moody Amazon will sometimes eat your pellets and sometimes not. Just like some days she will eat her veggies and sometimes not. She is on a special handmade pellet blend, special handmade seed type mixture and lots of veggies. I add Bird Tricks pellets to a mixture or by itself. I have also given her your prepackaged seasonal feeding system. She can't decide if she likes it, lol. I try different foods mixed differently. She is just so stubborn! I rescued her 25 years ago where all they fed her was corn and sunflower seeds and junk food. She is still a junk food junkie! She wants bread, peanuts, cheese, cereal and anything I'm eating.....ahhhhhhhh! We will get there!

    I would read the ingredients if I had a bag of pellets in my home! I switched over to a home made diet from start to finish and my parrots haven't looked better 🥰 I can controls where ingredients come from, I can give my cockatiel a more specialized diet (she's a bit of a lemon 🙈) and I can keep out the foods that my Meyers finds most rewarding. Breakfast is chop of Veg, herbs and sprouts, dinner is a home made dry mix of healthy seeds, nuts, flowers, spices, and other dry things. It took a while to get everything collected, and it's certainly not what everyone is able to do! I have experienced food insecurity and I know that not everyone can feed an exclusively fresh diet. We all do our best ❤️

    It’s really refreshing to see you mention reading the ingredients because for some reason in the dog food communities they are very against reading the ingredients or avoiding any ingredients the dog isn’t allergic too for some very odd reason. And just want the foods to be trusted basically because the makers know more than a regular person could in their opinions. And it’s very disheartening. What the makers also know is how to make a profit why should we blindly trust?

    • @gracecamaxtli7090
      @gracecamaxtli7090 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree lots of dog owners are buying McDonald's-equivalent pellets (Purina, Iams). But I've actually noticed a bigger trend in that community towards all natural, organic, whole food diets. Especially raw meat, which is what their bodies were designed to eat, like wolves. That's been trending for a few years. However in the parrot community I was shocked to see so many owners and vets encouraging a mainly-pellet diet (no animal's diet should be primarily processed food). And not only is the quantity a problem, but to make matters worse, the quality is also low. Most pellets are just junk food - corn, sugar. It's like giving birds wonder bread with jam.

    My lovebirds and budgies love tops pellets (first five ingredients: Organic alfalfa, organic hulled millet, organic barley, organic rice, organic sunflower seed hulled)! Funny enough, they like the large-sized pellets more than the small- or mini-sized (all sizes have the same ingredients) - I think the larger ones break apart more easily...in any case, if you're having trouble converting your small birds to healthier pellets, you may want to give the BT pellet (which is large) or the large tops pellets a try!

    @LookUpTheKalergiPlanWhitePeeps ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I just wanted to tell you thank you for everything you guys do to make lives better for all parrots and birds.
    You're truly a blessing. I've ordered some of your products, such as bird training and tricks, after I first got my beautiful son Taco about 10 years ago, a little Green Cheek Conure and enjoyed every video as we learned together watching them. I recently lost my beloved Taco, he's in the thumbnail account photo, on Sept 2nd 2022 just 3 weeks ago (It's now September 25th 2022, my birthday) and it seems like it literally just happened moments ago. He was going to be 12 years old on December 15th. He died cuddled next to my neck where he loved to sleep when I was laying down watching videos. I did everything I could to save him, $800+ dollars in medical bills alone, that I'm still having to make payments on but I'd have given any amount to save him, I didn't care how much it cost.
    He is literally a piece of my soul. Some would probably say that we had an "unhealthy relationship" because he basically lived on my shoulder. The only time he was in his cage was either when I wasn't home which is rarely (and even still I have security cameras inside to keep and eye on him) or if I was sleeping. He got cold bottled water every morning and was completely and utterly spoiled. I have never felt a love like I had with my little fella, not even for another human. He took a piece of my soul with him when he passed, here it is three weeks later and I still cry every single day, I cry myself to sleep and I cry when I wake up and walk into the living room to a now empty cage. I made him popsicle stick houses, climbing toys out of bamboo skewers... he even knew to fly to his cage to poop. He loved when my mom visited and he had a special call he reserved only for her. It completely devastated my mother when my baby flew home to heaven.
    My boyfriend said he's never seen any animal with as much personality or one who loved his human as much as Taco loved me, he wants me to get grief counseling and he also wants me to get another companion parrot, not another Green Cheek but maybe a Caique, for one reason, he lives in Massachusetts and I live in N.C., alone. My Taco was my life, I'm in tears now just typing this. I'd like another friend but not a baby or young parrot because I turned 48 today and I don't want to outlive my friend and have him go through the trauma of having a new companion when it's my time to go. I think I'm typing most of this just as a release to let out some of the pain so I'm sorry if I upset anyone who reads this but I also guess what I'm trying to say is that you don't own your pet, they own you... if you really truly love them. My sweet love of my life brought me more happiness than any amount of money or material possession ever could. I wouldn't trade the time we had together for anything. You truly are rich beyond your wildest dreams if you have the love we shared together. The only thing that comes close to describing our relationship was the movie Golden Compass where your animal is quite literally part of your spirit and soul. I have high functioning autism, so expressing emotions "properly" is a great struggle for me.
    Thank you Jamieleigh and your Husband for being hero's to all parrot owners who, through learning from you guys, can all give our loved companion's a better life.

    my pellets say: corn, rice, oats, soy and peanuts. No sugar or oils, though. It's really impossible to get good pellets in Germany, those were the best options. They are cold pressed and organic though and my birdies don't get much of them. I mostly feed fresh veggies mixed with a bit of dried veggies to soak up moisture. I am so glad you started talking about your product because I been really looking forward to trying it for my grey. I hate the commercialized food out there. Of course they will all say its so okay for your bird but I am not to sure. I have had my boy since 97 and my first parrot experience. It really is crazy out there. I mean even toys I am funny about. I had him get tangled in one when he was a baby. I came home and found him hanging by one foot. So I got really strict about what I will let him play with too. But food its like junk food junky for animals out there. Especially if your shopping online. The pet store had him on roudybush when I got him. I want my boy to be healthy. I would rather know what he is getting is good for him. I watched the video about their livers and Its been in my head ever since. So am trying it out. I am always introducing new foods to my boy so I dont think transition will be to hard. Stand by will be back to tell you how it goes. P.S. Can you add paypal to your payment types? My main pellet is Top’s which makes up about 3/4 the pellets I offer my GCC daily. Their ingredients have been listed in the comments a few times already now. I also give a sprinkling of Caitec’s Oven Fresh Bites on top. Their first five is oatmeal, oat flour, millet flour, sunflower meal, sunflower oil. Then immediately it’s soy and glycerin, so while those aren’t top 5 they’re still very much present. And peanut meal is in there eventually.

I am collecting TOP's pellets dust (well if I am correct BT doesn't ship out of US so even if I want I can't get their pellets) in a high, plastic cup, and when it is full/almost full I give it to my chickens. They love this :D And it is also something similar to chicken food - consistency not ingredients - I am giving them from time to time (when it comes to my lovely feathered dinosaurs I am giving them more DIY food, grains I buy from neighbour farmer, grass, herbs, potatoes, kitchen scraps...but chickens can eat a lot of different things without health issues, that I would not give to the parrot, for example, dirty grass ;) ) but anyway my flock of chickens loves and eats dust from TOP's pellets. Happily when I bought seed mix few months ago - it was supposed to be low sunflower - before I started feeding only pellets, I recieved bag of 70% sunflower, some millet, peanuts :/ I gave it to wild birds and chickens. When it comes to feeding parrot more veggies I am waiting for my own, garden veggies because I had very bad experience with my budgie when I fed him some grocery store lettuce and he almost died :/ I had some stomach issues too so it had probably too much pesticides and/or fertilizers, so I am kinda afraid to give Bruno a lot of veggies :/ Especially at spring time, but I hope that soon some radish, spinach will be ready, then some strawberries, lettuce, kale, carrot, beetroot ...
