    Nick mate. When you added pressure to the pot, the air in the balloon did the same as the bubbles in the resin. It compressed to a fraction of its atmospheric size. Paint a balloon with resin and let is set (open ended). Do that a few times to make it strong then try that "resin balloon".

    • @highplainsrider8734
      @highplainsrider8734 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      That is over complicating it. Seriously a plastic tube down the middle solves the issue just spray the tube with mold release problem solved the balloon is a bad plan and over complicating the whole thing. I done the plastic tube many times to cut down on material needing to be removed and to avoid the need for so much resin. Just a quick additional note here spray the tube before putting it in the bucket other wise you will get mold release on your first layer of resin and packing material causing it to possibly separate or crack.

      I slapped my head every time he put that balloon in the pressure pot expecting a different result. Considering why the pressure pot is used to begin with I would think the result with the balloon would be obvious.

    • @arikbord2256
      @arikbord2256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I was just going to ask if anyone else was yelling at the screen that putting an inflated balloon in a pressure pot will effectively deflate the balloon, then it will try to reinflate as you vent the pressure.

    I’m surprised the resin didn’t melt the foam. Usually that type of packing is made of cornstarch. When you were talking about the texture they reminded me of lava rocks. Wished you had left the bottom on to make it a footed vase. It had a really cool shape before you cut off the bottom and the round wood block.

    You should have coated the finished item with thin layer of resin. Left wet turning slow on your laith or a turner, the resin would have filled in the holes and self leveled smooth. Can still do it!

    Why wouldn't you have sprayed mold release on the outside of one of your mixing cups then super glue it down the center to create your void? Just 🤔

  • @sfcmmacro
    @sfcmmacro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As a scuba diver… when air is put under pressure is compresses, or expands under a vacuum. So when you pressurize the pot the ballon shrinks dramatically.
    On the other hand, water does not compress. If you use a water balloon you will not get shrinkage.
    But the best option would be to simply use a piece of PVC pipe that has the bottom sealed and the top open. You could the just turn the PVC out… not to mention that the pipe is perfectly round so you can chuck it up to true up the cylinder and cut the base for when you flip it over.

    Have a crazy idea for you Nick for a say 2-4 part video project that will combine your woodworking skill and resin making into something one of a kind. Make a billiards table where the balls, table legs, and table top are made with resin while everything else is made with wood. Table top not including the bumper rails. Figure a colored resin table top and the different colored balls would be interesting in resin. Just a thought.

    That turned out pretty cool but I wouldn't have thought Styrofoam would have worked, good job.

    Awesome project as always. Love the colors. Air-bubbles in foam are a cool effect. Makes me think on multi-colored cheese puffs.

    What a beautiful vase Nick, it's so cool, I wasn't sure how the styrofoam was going to endure the pour but I'm totally glad it did.

    That turned out pretty Nick. The colors are so brilliant. I almost thought the Styrofoam wouldn't but it did just the opposite. Another fantastic project.
