I enjoyed Amphoreus, but REALLY agree on the presentation thing...
and to not comparing it to WW and ZZZ, it's that even Genshin has been improving its own (like look at this year's Lantern Rite and Natlan's main quest, they may not be the best ones but the dynamic angles and the chartacters' expresions beg to differ from previous ones). SR can do better and they got too comfortable tbh.
Camera angles have been really good since Sumeru and it kept improving
Hsr's static camera is killing me and it also makes me feel like the story is longer than it actually is
I haven't play HSR in a while but i really surprised me to see it fall short. It feels like HSR & genshin switched quality on certain fronts 😅
I remember when i started HSR i was losing my mind repeating the same scene in all 4 available dubs, seeing even in the click & read that there's lipsync for each audio 😭
Bruh, it's like Hoyo is testing what's the best combination to be praised for the extra effort in some areas to keep players content, allowing them to phone it in for other aspects, and have some users tolerate the cut corners for the shining spectacles
I say this completely guilty of it 🙃
To be fair HSR was always a mix between Visual novel Storytelling, 3D Dialogues and cutscenes.
I like it this way but I completly agree, that hoyo should improve the presentation during the Dialogues. Maybe they should decrease the Story to 5 hours Like penacony 2.0, which got more cutscenes Overall.
However, I really like your takes about HSR because you really care for the game and want it to be even better. I was annoyed by all the drama bait of people, who just trash talked 3.0 as a whole.
3.0 story wasn't even that long dialogue wise. It just had a lot of gameplay segments (puzzles) in between that padded out time. For example, in Penacony, you could forgo doing a huge chunk of the puzzles in the areas they added throughout each patch, while progressing in Amphoreus' story required doing some decently long puzzle segments. In fact if you looked at the datamined line count for 3.0 that only included the main quest, its not much longer than 2.2 which is obviously a still pretty long quest.
@@VectorCrossYep, that's like my only complain because there's puzzles in every single room to progress the story and it doesn't help when i think "ah, im free from puzzles" only to be greeted with more. And this is a bit nitpick, the Titans blessing just felt gamey because of it and not as special as the people of Amphoreus make it to be.
if you appeal to a shorter story you will attract two digits IQ people into the community/game that mostly comes from genshin
so no... hsr needs to be longer and have more philosophy thats how HI3 is still good
More like people have been saying good about it too much, even using it as a defense against actual criticism.
Which you know, invites more negativity???
The thing that made the quest take longer was the exploration and all the puzzles. Every in-story exploration involved puzzles, and a fair chunk of the puzzles took a while to figure out either bc it was a bit complicated or you had to find a way to navigate through the map to it. I think the quest could be shaved down to 5-6 hours without the puzzles.
But i personally like how long it was bc all that navigating and puzzle solving as a whole to me contributed to the fact that this is a very new planet not even the astral express knows about and it's taking a while to go around bc we don't know the place, don't have records of it, and the world very strangely has a system/rules on how their world functions that's entirely different from the known universe
As an HI3 player. I enjoyed Amphoreus but I agree with the lack of presentation. I doesn't even have to be a full cutscene. A still image or art would have been better esp. during the parts where they explain the planet's history for bettet visualization. We get this a lot on HI3 story.
Imagine this, during the fireworks scene of the Kongming event, if they didn't add an actual visual of Kongming laying on the ground lifeless and replace it with a wall of text, would it have the same impact as it did to us players? I doubt.
It's ironic, when HSR first came out I was impressed by how it used more rendered cutscenes and how well choreographed and animated they are.
But since then, the other games have been improving. HI3 has been making a noticable and concerted effort to do in engine cutscenes and improve presentation. in many ways they've surpassed hsr there. heck, HI3 never had in engine cutscenes before finality arc.
Genshin has also been working on doing more interesting animations and camera work during VN talking moments, and at this point they are definitely better than hsr in that regaard.
In engin cut scene were in from nagazore arc did you forget Kiana and mei fight sequence
Edit: and that was not it did you forget the opening sequence of everlasting Elysium where mei was fighting some honkai beast
@@nikhilramawat2611 yea i did forget, doesnt really change the fact that the game didnts tart with them and they improved a lot on them over time. nagazora was barely an in engine cutscene
It's the popular game curse
@@ouroboros6738what about
Genshin and ZZZ
I often dislike HSR's execution but I like Amphoreus more than the rest of it already. I just feel a lot of potential from it and I enjoy when the story is long. My biggest gripe with penacony was that they tried to accomplish so much in so little time so hopefully our flame chasers get the attention they deserve. The puzzles ruined my flow of just wanting to consume the story, but at least Mydei and Phainon banter was enough to keep me going. My motivation for HSR has been very low for a while and I doubt I'm going to be playing it much, but I'll try to see what the rest of Amphoreus has in store lore-wise as well as the eventual Fate collab. I had started to forget why I even started playing HSR in the first place but it was because I love Hi3 so I'm just hoping they scratch that itch in the 3.x patches.
I was quite surprised that a lot of HSR players were not satisfied with Amphoreus presentation. As fellow Hi3rd player i am fine with "wall of text" approach, instead of good visuals approach, as long as wall of text is actually interesting, and going on adventure with young Kevin in Amphoreus was a blast for me. But now in retrospect i kinda agree that visual presentation in Amphoreus was a little lacking.
Not "little". What's the point of having 3d model and like 40+ gb on pc?
The main issue isn't about the wall of text, It is mainly the visual and presentation. Why is older game like HI3 or even 1.0 of HSR has better presentation? it is quite reasonable to be unsatisfied. As HI3 player myself who enjoyed Penacony and very excited for the Amphoreus, but end up disappointed
The problem is, instead of showing player the good things about the planet, they just have a random npc/character yap non-stop about it with a "wall of text". People will just go "nah I'm not reading this shit" and spam left click/space/tapping the screen with all their might. I would say, less talk and more action. C'mon they can do better with a 40GB+ game.
The problem is that HSR and Hi3 is not the only dog in the park anymore. You try ZZZ 1.4 and WW 2.0 and go back to Amphoreus and it's just like.. It's just not good enough. For what it's worth I think Amphoreus story is by someways still the best, but the presentation and pacing was just so mid.
Wow you werent kidding when you said HI3 had the best presentation across Hoyo games. I wish HSR got that from them as well.
If HSR takes on the VN route of storytelling, then they should add more cg arts like they did in HI3. Im not expecting the storytelling to be on the same level as wuwa 2.0 or ZZZ, just adding more static images is enough for me. Also the reason why its long is cuz the writer is Fanchuan(same one that wrote otto arc and i think Fanchuan wrote Part 2 too iirc) from wut I've heard
The writer is fanchuan but its obvious that behind him there's shaoji
0:41 nothing is flawless except for ELYSIA AND JESUS
Elysia is trash
Soooo… only Elysia
Elysia is the definition of "I don't know what personal space is" hence flawed by default.
Easily the most obnoxious character to exist in all 4 latest MHY games.
So much so in fact, that the only Flame-Chaser I actually enjoyed was just Pardo alone.
@@Elariesel Elysia is a cheap copy of Jesus. Don't even compare them.
I think I can agree with your rating for Amphoreus. While I agree that the presentation could be improved, the overall negativity the game receives now is quite overblown. What frustrates me the most is the constant "yapping" criticism. I really don't understand it, Amphoreus so far is quite straightforward, so the criticism is about... that the game is telling a story instead of barking out mission objectives to the player in short sentences?
cuz they have low attention span, ez
I don't know, most of the people I saw criticize the story telling more than the yapping.
Yapping is fine if story telling can carry.
@@ultimus7575 they are also greedy and stupid too, you remind me of mr.pokke lol
Welcome back and ty for another great video
ngl i read it became my favourite region after i read "flame chasers", "golden blood" and "elysiae". also it prolly didnt help that i love ancient greece. not biased at all
Its great to see u make another video.
As for HSR 3.0, i do agree the story is interesting, but instead of a 2-4 hour story we suddenly have a 8-10 hour story and this will probably be the format for the future just so they can stretch out on top of puzzle upon puzzle room wich was the reason i quit, and thats not even mentioning the massive power creep the game has now, unless u got the latest characters built u are gonna have a hard time even getting through some story fights.
I have decided to let streamers carry that burden while i watch their playtroughs.
HI3 part 2 is a game i still want to continue but like HSR i'm just done with the exstremely draw out storytelling and i don't see that changing anytime soon.
I also think the main reason its so drawn out is that they have to same writer, i do enjoy his work but he's really making them WAY to drawn out.
They're buffing some old characters sometime in the future
Developer Radio
@@TSG140-2 true, but will it be worth the wait? and will it be in any big way? i doubt that.
Glad to see you making a video on this, been waiting for amphoreus content from you tbh bc of the Hi3rd implications 👀
I completely agree with the comparison to the first chapter of Part 2. I feel like in every hoyo game I've played, miHoYo KEEPS making the same mistake whenever they try to introduce a new major setting. Instead of focusing on the character stories, and letting the worldbuilding unfold organically in the background, which is the greatest strength of their storytelling, they waste time doing sight-seeing tours, history lessons and technobabble lectures.
And, don't get me wrong, I enjoy Diagram Time With Dr Schrodinger as much as the next Honkai veteran, BUT I feel like the place and time for that comes AFTER the stakes are already established and I've spent enough time with the characters to be curious about the world they inhabit.
Just because they have a lot of setup to do doesn't mean they have to frontload it like they did here. Let the background stay in the background so it may serve to bring out the character arcs and interactions that we're actually playing these games to see.
wow i stopped playing hi3 after part 1 ended but holy their story presentation got so much better
i play only hsr since 1.0 and i agree with people who say it could improve its presentation imo because 10 hours of characters just standing repeating same basic idle animations gets boring
Play it.
The latest patch story is really good, and players has been dub it as "HI3 finally return to their root of story writing style" after strayed since chapter 32:
That is return to "Depression Impact"
Guys, I think he likes Castorice, but it's just a hunch.
I also was in the "Penacony is NOT peak" minority. I actually loved 2.0 but I felt like aside from a few standout moments everything went downhill after that resulting in an awkward situation where the opening was the climax. Worse still the rest of the reveals in Penacony retroactively ruined all the exciting parts of 2.0 but without (for me) a satisfying payoff, which means I now also lost most of my prior appreciation for 2.0.
I was actually close to dropping HSR. Ironically the patch that saved the game for me is the patch most of the community (at least the loud part) seemed to hate. I went into the monkey meme patch with literally below zero expectations based on the teasers but I ended up loving Rappa's origin story and really enjoyed the deeper story that was being told underneath the surface level brainrot memes that the bulk of internet commentators didn't seem to be able to see past.
This actually seems to be a common theme for me that I like what the HSR community hates and I hate what they like. (I think community darling Firefly/SAM was an absolutely horribly written character and I went from loving Firefly in 2.0 to hard skip no matter how meta she was). Kinda makes me think maybe this game isn't for me lol.
Overall my feelings about 3.0 was that it was okay. I didn't love it or hate it. I liked that we got shot down and lost comms back to the train I think it made a nice setup to make 3.0 feel like the start of a dangerous adventure right out of the gate instead of standard issue trailblazing mission. I also enjoyed the environments it's hard to explain exactly why but progressing through the quests in the Amphoreus zones gave me a lot more of a classic single player RPG dungeon crawling feel than any prior HSR content, which was pretty cool.
I totally agree with your assessment about the storytelling presentation. I'm basically never a dialogue skipper but I've definitely started reading and VA skipping somewhat often in HSR nowadays. A lot of the delivery is flat (more likely a lack of good direction not VA skill if I had to guess) and nothing is happening on screen. Also there are some odd scene choices with stuff that probably should have been cutscenes delivered as static standing around dialogue and then cutscenes with no dialogue where not much happens that really didn't need to be cutscenes.
I am cautiously optimistic for Amphoreus so far. I was not as nearly as hyped going in compared to Penacony launch and 3.0 wasn't close to as epic was 2.0 but honestly I think that is probably a good thing. Having a region launch patch that is TOO good can leave you with no room for building action and for the climax to shine. HSR is still firmly at the bottom of the pecking order of Hoyo games for me but I'm still interested enough to stick with it.
I agree, though funnily enough it wasn't until I played the latest chapter of honkai impact 3rd, at the time, that I realized how painfully mediocre Penacony was. To the point that it almost felt unbearable for me to go through 2.3, the version I find the weakest among all installments of the Penacony patch.
Yeah, rappa patch is great which I don't expect. Bad patch or not I still plan to pull rappa. The patch make me not regret doing it.
As HI3 player Amphoreus was so full of action I did not think of pace at all. Every HI3 player complaining about HSR pace is full of shit.
No way HI3 players are complaining about another games pacing when HI3’s has always been ass. Only natural storytelling I felt like was in ER. Otherwise it’s just lore bombs.
@@slan77 dont you hate it when your wall of text has gameplay in it? only hi3 players know the pain 😭😭
@alexpuhringer3721unironically i love the walls of texts and when the game puts the gameplay its like "ughh..fine". Lmao.
What action?? The battle against nikador on the lact act is the only action we got in the story, the rest are myriads of puzzles that seems intricate at first but turned into chores real quick.
And dont get me started on adventure missions that's basically wall of text... even the HI3 version at least has interaction animation between 2 characters, while this game is mostly text, if not entirely black screen with text.
As player who play both games, I think you're the one full of it 🙄
The pacing is the same, but the difference is that hsr breaks up that pacing further with monotonous children's puzzles, mob fights and hallway simulator; which makes it feel like a slog, having to reexplore castrum kremnos was not fun, or intriguing to me. One game owns its identity as a visual novel and the other pretends it's not, even though it's presentation is treated as such.
if they are going to make 8+ hours every patch they should start splitting it into 2 parts, kinda like phases in hi3. part 1 first half of patch and part 2 2nd half ofc. this might give them more time to "polish" things up more presentation wise, and might make it more digestible throughout a patch rather than 8+hours from the get go. just my suggestion ofc
I fricken loved 3.0 despite its flaws. I felt it was way better paced than prior hsr stories. Room for improvement for sure, but nowhere near as bad as some people are claiming.
I love what you said about Amphoreus delivering with the lore, story, and characters. I enjoyed all of that so much. I see your other points about the flaws, and you presented them in a clear and effective way!
I enjoyed the hell out of the update and did it in one go. The reason why the quest seemed long was not coz of the dialogue but the numerous puzzles in the quest. Hopefully it becomes a bit toned down in main story
if you asked me if I would prefer to spend seven hours listening to amphoreus characters stand around talking, or spend seven hours playing balatro, I'm going to pick balatro 100% of the time
Even playing basketball without a ball is better than listening to hoyo yap
I love the lore of Amphoreus hopefully the next quest are better ☹️
All these discussion on the story length and presentation made wonder if they shouldn't have follow the genshin formula of 1 new world every 6-7 version....honestly, this is one of the biggest qualm I have with HSR at the moment. Personally feel that the writers clearly wanted to work on a long story but is constrained by the need to fit them within a certain amount of patches...which they shouldnt have to.......I don't know why they are so hell bent on this...
I would also like for the devs to be more willing to spread out their stories longer and not feel pressured to finish it within "X many patches."
Even Genshin is guilty of this. Archon Quests are only in about 3-4 patches and they're only 2-4 hours long. Then the rest are filled with a multitude of new Story Quests, events and mini-games. Of these events, maybe 2 or 3 are actually relevant to the lore and story. These events are also shorter and limited, unless it's a Dain quest. So yeah Genshin will stick with a region for 6-7 patches, but content that is acrually important doesn't take up most of the playtime.
Anyway- I think they're hellbent on maintaining this schedule across games because it's a business model. If say they did spread out Penacony's main story across every 2.X patch, there will be just as many critical fans as they are now. Instead of "Penacony's story was too bloated", it would be "We have been with Penacony's story for too long."
Hoyo games have set this standard where the longer it goes, the more characters/locations it needs to keep relevant somehow. They try to balance this by having the major stories in the new place, and some events in the older ones. That's A LOT to get right, and it's going to get harder the bigger HSR gets. Genshin's abysmal screen time management is an easy example of how hard it's going to become.
Right now, this current strategy isn't ideal BUT it does work. The other solutions would be taking a lot of risks that the audience may not be kind towards. Heck, of the gachas I play, Hoyo's are the only ones who try to spread out their main stories across patches and make it as visually spectacular as possible.
as someone whos favourite arc is the flame chaser arc the thing i was looking forward to the most was "how close it will be to the HI3rd Flame Chaser" and as someone whos favourite character was Elysia the main thing that still makes me excited for amphoreus is the fact she will be playable at some point. i also cought myself several times calling some characters by their HI3rd names xd
That's what I call review and analysis, I'm tired of swearing and yelling unnecessary negative opinion that they think it's a fact at my ear over and over again till the point that I asked myself, “ what is the original purpose of mine to watch this content in the first place? ” , “ where's review and analysis without being piece of sh*t for at least 10 seconds ”
I have a nagging feeling that the dark tide was caused by Stellaron...
... And I'm almost certain that it'll always be the case on every planet we'll visit in the future XD
I mean we're 4/4 so it's a safe guess
The only reason I am playing Amphoreus is for Phainon and all the other FlameChasers 😂, thank God it wasn't just me who didn't like Penacony's Asthetics. With all honesty I don't mind visual novel style, all they need to do is not make it sound bland, like add music effects or sound effects of the things happening in that scene. That would automatically make it better
Seeing the hi3 comparison makes me give up hope in hsr’s story presentation
i agree with story being 3-4 hours but better. as a long time hi3 player, i appreciate the change they made in the story for more quality over quantity. improvement in any ways is always a good thing. im also fine with walls of text but i can see why a lot of people wouldn't be. its one of the few reasons people dont want to play hi3, its too long and too confusing for most. its not like hi3 story is bad ofc, its just not something the majority of people would want to go through. Something more digestible for the vast majority of players will more than likely be better in the long run.
personally i think the 8-10 hours is fine for the story but better presentation is always a good thing,. so im not complaining about the pacing since i started to enjoy the story more around the time we were with castorice. setting up story in some to most cases is going to be slow, gotta introduce characters, backstories, explore areas and such. but once all those are established and we start going through the main issue, the story felt more enjoyable for me. was hoping to get more mem/cyrene lore during this patch but hopefully next patch we will
Honestly, as player of both games, i see a bit of nitpicking from you, Homu. Comparing average scenes of HSR, where nothing but chill talking happening, to few of the most intense scenes of recent HI3 is not totally correct, although i agree that those from HI3 were very good, while HSR ones aren't.
The only thing that kept me playing HSR up until now, are the Aeons and their lore, I had more fun reading SU lores than the main quests 😅😅 It's one of the rare times they cooked hard with their Eldritch deities and designs are freaking Chefs kiss. SERIOUSLY JUST RELEASE TERMINUS, AKIVILI, IDRILLA AND LONG'S design. PLEASE!!
I’m in the same boat where I pay more attention to the lore than other stuff. yes! they did yap a lot- I can’t wait for 3.1 so I can listen to them yap some more! I don’t disagree that they could have more dynamic camera angles or animations, that’s just not a huge factor of enjoyment for me. Also uhh- more animations means more storage needs btw, and I keep seeing people complaining about that. so which one is it, because you can’t have more animations and a smaller download size. a sentence or five is a whole lot smaller than a video.
the lore (specifically parallels to other hyv games) and the puzzles are my top two favorite things about HSR so I was vibing (spacial alignment puzzles my beloved).
The only story part that felt off to me in the moment was going from current time castrum kremnos, when nikador was threatening to attack again, to when we steered off and went to find oronyx. I understand why, but that’s where I felt the energy drop off. and the balancing puzzle felt dragged out.
Here's why it was a pain sitting through Amphoreus 3.0 for me:
- Same old "tell, don't show", lots of it, namely the excessive black screens
- Lazy presentation : static poses/animations (seriously, it's the same 3 poses throughout the 10 hours of play, even Genshin has updated their poses already), and lack of CGI/animation at all (right at Genshin 5.0, we have that Mavuika vs Capitano fight, and ZZZ 1.4 with the great cutscenes)
- Excessive puzzles that break story flow and immersions
- Yappings. Now normally I don't mind yapping if they yap about something new. The problem with HSR (and HI3 too) is that they yap about the same thing so many times, it's just tiring. Yep, the infamous Charmony Dove meme is just that, excessive yapping about the same shit
haven’t watched the vid yet but i always trust hi3 players judgement 🙏
Playable Kevin and Kalpas automatically makes Amphoreus peak to me lol
I did the Amphoreus story the day after doing the most recent H3rd story and with the memory of that insanely good story fresh, I found it difficult to really enjoy the Amphoreus story. I liked it a lot lore wise and feel it is getting too much hate, but it was way too long that doing it felt exhausting.
LETS GOOO MY GOAT IS BACK❤
0:25 I didn't expect to be Jumpscared like that in 2025
I'm in the thick of it
And everybody knows
Dang I love that theory about Amphoreus and Mars. Maybe the reason the Memokeeper visited Kiana is because the Garden of Remembrance considers Earth a dead planet like Amphoreus.
Anyways glad you are back Homu. You missed alot of mihoyo lore news. Coralie maybe dying (I think it's a fake out by Leyla.), Kiana's new valk form. Natlan Quest revealing the false sky over Teyvat, and Belle and Wise being robots.
I only played hsr, so I'm really looking forward to hi3 veteran sharing his thoughts on peak-phoreus. for some obscure reason i really like finding out that some characters are variants...
I think the main problem with HSR is the lack of lore-building world quest like in Genshin. For example in Amphoreus they could make the normal 5 hours quest, then make a separate section for the lore-dumps. In Amphoreus they seem to sandwich it all in one TB quest, making it unnecessarily longer.
And trust me it would work if it's a separated story quest. Because, I tell you Ochkanatlan in Genshin is actually better than the 5.1 AQ. They idea behind that world quest and the others, delivers the idea of an epic (as in legendary adventure) to 5.3 AQ by making these NPCs from the world quest to appear and help us win the war
That's how you set up a story in my opinion, by leaving crumbs here and there and not make it bloated
my man homu never disappoints me
Good video! I'm wondering tho, do you think it was the puzzles or the amount of dialog is what padded out the story on Amphoreus to 10 hrs? I've seen some people say it was the puzzles that extended the run time of the quests and I'm not sure which parts of the actual story should get lines cut from if we were to shorten it that way.
Other than that, I very much agree on the sentiments of the visual presentation of the dialog scenes. I think they should slowly start making more idle poses for the dialog, maybe even add some character specific ones if they're ballsy enough ig. For example, in HI3 we get to see new dialog poses pretty often so we don't really get tired with seeing the same 3 poses over and over. For Castorice, I actually noticed she used the NPC pose with holding her hands in front of her dress throughout the story, which is new to my eyes even though it's a reused animation.
So...I feel like the devs bit on more they could chew? Maybe if they make the stories like 6 hrs MAX they could focus on making the scenario direction more visually appealing, cuz I'm thinking that's what they are struggling with rn maybe due to deadlines. The puzzles kept me engaged for the most part, but late into going through Kremnos I just wanted to get them over with 😭
The puzzles aren't even that prevalent, there are only a few required puzzles in the whole patch. I would have preferred there to be even more honestly, it seems like they toned them down compared to penacony
i think complaining about length of quest is unreasonable, it’s supposed to last us the whole 3.0 so if you sat there for 10 hours and did it all in one day well sucks but not the devs problem. but presentation could have been better - there was great lore that was hindered a little because the presentation bored people who hence ended up ignoring the text
honestly the only reason i even liked the story was bc of elysiam realm
My only conclusion in this "drama" though the complaints are necessary to improve the game, it made the community negative that now I see more complaints about the complaints
Early?? Also love your videos
Regardless of what you think of all the games, let's try to get along. Really not looking forward to "Hi3 vs HSR" as yet another battleground where fans lash out at each other again...
Comparing video games is good.
Nah we need to normalize criticism. Yes it's annoying but it'll lead to good improvements.
I have and ad sponsor skip, i even have opera GX, but for some reason i just watch it anyway because the feel of missing some important info, thats why i sub to this channel in the first place, also your speech/tone make me understand better these complicated lores, thank you :)
Well said. I agree that people are sad and mad about 3.0 because they really started to realize degradation of what was presented at the begining. Social media provides many reminders of this happening and then people decide to quit. This is not experience for them anymore.
I pretty much agree spot on with your take, but I have to say that I haven't really seen any real hate for Amphoreus in any of the circles I run in. Is there actually a lot of hate for it, or is it just the standard algorithm led hate spiral of the people still on Twitter?
There are definitely a few criticisms to be had, like you said, but nothing I would call hate. Mostly to do with presentation and how much the English voiceover suffered for not having Dan Heng be voiced. Though, in my opinion, English was still worth it for Gnaeus's voice actor alone. He did an incredible job and was probably my favorite thing to come out of the whole patch.
Both presentations can be ass but hi3 HAS A SKIP BUTTON
Your comment on the 6 week patch cycle reminds me of the quote "if i had more time i'd have written a shorter letter"
I think my biggest issue with 3.0 was how verbose everything was. They even have a joke about purple prose in one part. So maybe they aren't intentionally padding the dialogue to hit play time metrics, and they just don't have time for rewrites that are more succinct. I'll at least give them the benefit of the doubt, as so far 3.0 has been a breath of fresh air for me and I'd be glad to never return to penacony ever again after 2.6.
I like the story of 3.0, but I agree with you about the presentation of the images is simple and similar to each other. I think it's because of the Camera Shot Angles in the presentation.
in HI3, many NPC characters have less animation than the main characters, but the Camera Shot Angles editing can present it to not feel repetitive.
However,in HSR has many points where the camera angle is simple and hold too long, no tricks, and often cuts to black scenes in the scenes that can emotional appeals.
My problem more than anything is the fact that the story is going to last the whole year and seeing how they do things in hsr there will be segments of the story or plots that will last longer than they should.
they should let Aha narrate the black screen texts
For some reason I can't trust the words of anyone on Amphoreus the only time my instincts went true was with Gnaeus
Every other time it was like "hmmmm that don't seem right"
HI3 is really the passion project of Da Wei
I live for overly wordy storytelling. So for me, this kind of content is my favorite. Ok, I am getting tired of the puzzles, but I'll run out eventually and it'll be fine. There is just so much in this that I love. I thought I was sick of the Xianzhou, then I really liked the story during the whole tournament part.
I honestly suprised that you pull resemblances of HSR 3.0 with HI3 Mars saga instead of ER saga, first time i heard anyone say that.
Because both places are long gone civilizations
Too soon to do that. The Crysos' heirs are not fully laid out yet and IMO this video is more focused on storytelling presentation rather than the lore itself.
My favorite quest in Amphoreus wasn’t the main story. It was the side quest, “I Was In Arcadia…Once”.
It was proper Greek tragedy and it fucked me up emotionally.
Honestly, I really hope that they listen and make future story quests shorter because while I think that lore wise this is one of the best quests so far, I found it really tiring to complete as someone who plays pretty much just for that (it also didn't help that my characters have awful builds which got them nuked multiple times from nikador and the game is running on an external HDD which makes it so slow that sometimes windows thinks that it froze)
I didn't like the visual presentation, it almost made me download and play valorant again
welcome back king
Yeah I thought "ER version of HSR is gonna be a disaster if they don't fix the storytelling." Cause ER story was good but the storytelling was ASS.
The story wasn't really that bad. The problem is the yapping, and the fact that at least for me it feels like they add a lot of yapping because if not the story would have lasted much less time and right it feels the Devs are desperately trying to give the image that they have "so much new content" when the reality is not like that
I personally am more interested in the story itself than the presentation but I agree that presentation needs a big change. For example, sometimes the black screen white text is great in my opinion but sometimes really not.
But it personally I must disagree about your point on the music. The music was phenomenal. Especially the elites’ and Nikador’s boss themes. They, in my opinion, truly captured the feeling danger of the situation about as much as that one theme in Jarilo VI. I forgot the name though.
My problem with Amphoreus is the amount of puzzles on the main quest. It felt so padded out and annoying. I just want to enjoy the story, but every time i enter a puzzle room i would audibly groan.
But i did enjoy the world building and lore of Amphoreus. It helps that i love Greek Myth and the Flame Chasers arc in Hi3rd.
2 things. I have not heard anyone say better than you have how I feel about this whole situation. And second, the same people who complained about yap then complained they didn’t know what a Chrysos Heir was until like 3 hours in or something so
I loved both Penacony and 3.0
I'm just glad I can press the skip button in hi3 while hsr forces you to click through its dialogs. I've always appreciated the hi3's team for their animations, especially version pvs. Short, simple and sweet. As someone who skipped 90% of hi3 story (im more into the game play than story), thus spoke apocalypse was so well made that it made sense of otto's character for me. Its forever my favorite animation with the jp seele as 2nd fav. I havent been as impressed with hsr animations knowing what hi3 has done.
My only problem with my current HSR quest is I can't read JP text, I play HSR in JP and mem's dialogue feel really weak in EN compared to when I watched JP cc Impersonate Elysia voice during mem's dialogue.
The last good hsr story was belobog almost all characters are well developed not so much yapping and pretty well paced not to mention a banger finale.
hsr is almost 3 yrs old with all the money they have for sure they can at least improve some story animations, removed black screens and good camera work but no its apparently moving backwards, even the beggar from the side of the road *Hi3* has better camera work, currently has better pacing and the story keeps getting better surprisingly..
19:10 their complains are valid but we will stay in mars for god knows how many years but we will leave amphoreus after a few patches so part 2 infodump and worldbuilding matters..
The greatest error i see is that we have a Kebin but he is not simping for a Mei, he is not even talking about one.
Also he is not being an insuferable edgelord 🤣👌
We praying Acheron to get lost and end up in amphoreus just to get flashbacks
To be fair they could still introduce Hsr Kebin's Mei (and then traumatize the players by letting it play out as in HI lol although I doubt it)
I mean Ruan Mei(my fanon of her is that she's Dr.MEI expy) be talking to Herta already
So, i play both, hi3 and hsr but, but, onestly i will happly start again the full first part of hi3 rather than do 3 hours of puzzle in hsr! It wasn't 10 hours quest, it was 6 or 7 story and 3 or 4 of puzzle! You cant put so many hours of puzzle and hope i will be Happy. Not after play wuwa 2.0 that was much much much better. I cant say much for hi3 im still to do the last chapter but i played the event collab with hsr, the story and all and it was fun.
Wasn't HSR based off the Trails series? If you've played both you'll see many similarities, especially with the 3D ones, such as the train, Asta's staff looks like an orbital staff, the way the story is presented, lots of NPC's with lore dialogue (Trails does it better though), they were even gonna do a colab (dunno if thats still on) ect. From this perspective its not unexpected to me atleast. I just wonder if they made it this way with that type of audience in mind. Probably them being more focused would be better over all though for others sakes I just hope it doesn't become more shallow for it. Not that HI3 has become this way I just worry.
Idk how it feels like they talk more here than they do in penacony and I ran thru that storyline on 7 accounts sigh
I always wanted HSR to give the us longer story quests but the way everything was presented was meh.
I feel that Amphoreus initial quest went too much in the introduction kind of quest the last part was really nice and even use different angles and stuff. TLDR Pretty much 3/4 of the quest fell like starting a new game but the las 1/4 Felt LIKE the REAL quest.
If anything, I had a blast (aside from lack of VAs) since I played the quest how it’s meant to be played. Slowly. Over the course of a few days. And not all at once lol.
00:14:24 The most obvious thing you showed here (and for me the worst in HSR since a few versions) is the awkard mix of voiced and unvoiced lines in the same scene in HSR. I think, it would be better to make a scene voiced or unvoiced completely, so players don't need to "switch" from imaginary to real voice in their heads within one scene. I doubt a lot of players will replay the game just to listen to missed out voice lines, once (or better "if") this issue has been corrected in the future.
What is also noticable is that HI3 scenes over time became more like one would expect HSR scenes should be, with moving camera angles and at least graphical screens, where animated scenes would be too costly (as opposed to super-cheap white text on black background in HSR).
That's the players choice to have scuffed EN Dub when they know the issue will still continue over time. Hoyo won't force them to the better JP or CN dub
Well nothing can be do about that cuz of strike going on. I think it gonna be a long time till it be solve
@@RoccusTerminal Tbf Hi3 was once suffered same issues, particularly in Elysium Everlasting, where Mei JP voice is mostly silent due Sawashiro Miyuki having a sick leave if I remember.
They really only offered solution in CN where they temporarily having Himeko's CN VA take over Mobius CN during having c-virus sickness leave
@@RoccusTerminal That's true, but it is the company's choice how they present these scenes/the gameplay, and IMHO it is also a company's responsibility to resolve the issue with the contracts of their workers. Also, the "choice" is pretty harsh, as besides the main story it also affects the events, whereas in HI3 one is used to events being unvoiced.
@@muhamadrizkyananda I didn't know those backgrounds, thanks for that. But an illness is hardly something you can predict, or point an accusatory finger at, while contract-based issues could be worked out somehow based on how (un-)willing the partners are.

The Gun is clipping into the hand XD

I agree with the point, HSR is extremely static in representation
Very nice video, my brother. It was nicely broken down with a good chuckle from me here and there.
I played hi3 until the end of part 1 and am loving the parallels between Amphoreus and the flame chasers. Gives much nastalgia.
But ya, the main gripes is the awful presentation. The lore is so dmn promising but let down by the presentation. I was so excited to see Tribbie open the gates just to be greeted with a black screen.
Thankfully, the devs have acknowledged this in the new dev post, and i hope the presentation improves.
Yeah, lore and the story in my opinion is good but bad thing is how they do story telling or how they present them to us is really really bad
WuWa has better pacing... yeah nah I shall respectfully disagree here. it has less story! The rest is just trying to rizz without leaving much layered story other than the ones they deliberately made clear (in many ways). Well, not complaining. Them making it that way absorbed some of the noisy troll people that's been plaguing hoyo fanbase ever since Genshin. (Sure makes things much more peaceful for me in the Genshin side! Other than the usual bots)
ZZZ seems to be applying the same idea, albeit they still leave (way more) hints over the world. It will bite them in the future, imho. But as usual with hoyo storytelling: let them cook.
Back to topic:
Less story doesn't mean better story-telling or better pacing imho. it's just creating a product that suits their target market, instead.
Instead if you want to say that 2, 3, 4 hours are proper pace, then a good storytelling will make due for less run hour with more layers. "Reduce the length, increase the width" type of thing. (Maybe this is what you meant with "polish all the aspects"? idk)
Making more layers is also never a loss. Since even if more often than not the general mass won't ever get it, they will still feel the existence of the layers. Since the characters carry the layers of the story, so it will affect their persona and development. So even if the general mass won't understand it, they just gonna feel that illusion that something is there.
Big example of this? Your very beloved Hanabi-chan. She's a character that stays on the "this girl knows a lot of the layers of this story", and that makes her feel like there's a lot going on into her, too. Furthermore: that makes The Fool a very interesting faction in Star Rail.
So the overall interest of readers over things associated with them increases, too.
I have always had big criticism towards hsr because it was way too comfortable in its lacking camera direction and freeze cameras and stiff models way too often. There are good setpieces and visually engaging moments in every other quest until now but Amphoreus shot itself in the leg by having all the issues in a consistent streamline from start to finish with not enough moments to shake it up.
I believe it can go uphill from here and they probably keep their resources for the really important story moments in later segments but yeah, right now it is too poor.
I have no grievances with someone taking issue with the presentation and/or plot delivery, what I do take issue with is all the dishonesty I've seen online about just how "bad" it is in comparison to other gacha games. Especially from Wuwa fans who constantly make a point about how much higher the "production quality" when 2.0 also was guilty of reusing animations, relying on black screens, still images, hell some NPC's mouths don't even animate properly when talking. The game is prettier yes, but it's in the Unreal Engine so it's just going to look more polished than something like HSR which is in Unity. It feels less like genuinely criticizing Star Rail for its shortcomings and just wanting to use any excuse possible to hate on Hoyoverse because of some misguided Robin Hood mentality. Especially with other compounding issues that have been directed towards HSR like the Aventurine bug, and the powercreep controversy.
Also while I understand what you're trying to do with the cutscene comparison, it still feels disingenuous to me. I'm not sure why you picked the cutscenes from HSR's story that you did for your comparison. Why did you not pick something like Phainon coming down, snatching the the Trailblazer's bat, and breaking Dan Heng's spear? Mydei coming out and dragging/tossing the bodies of his enemies in his introduction? The amazing Gnaeus cutscene of "I AM THE SCAR THAT THIS WORLD NEEDS!"? The Nikador confrontation itself? Is it because they wouldn't work properly when it comes to making Amphoreus' presentation look worse for the sake of your video? Yes, absolutely. It's selective bias which I think is a major error on your part in this video because it makes HSR's presentation look worse than it actually is.
Amphoreus is long. Absolutely. I work a 9-5 job and it took me around 3 days to finish the entire thing. It's a 9-11 hour long quest depending on your pacing and how much exploration you do. For the younger folks at home, still in school, or people who just have no life and try to do a massive quest like this all in one sitting? Yeah, absolutely. You're going to get burnt out and that is normal. Because it's not normal to do play a game for 9-11 hours straight. I agree that making the quests shorter would solve this issue, but I would honestly argue that the presentation of the story has very little to do with people's overall issues with the story and it just has to do with the fact a lot of gacha gamers have short attention spans and very little patience for stories that are this text heavy.
Also MisterSpacemanStuff did an excellent reddit post over the whole Black Screen issue and concluded that it is a load of BS. This is simply people's selective bias taking over their ability to actually judge the story and think critically. I'll link it here: www.reddit.com/r/HonkaiStarRail/comments/1i4978u/the_black_screen_criticism_true_or_false/
EDIT: Also OperaGX is a chromium based web browser, which recently have stopped allowing adblockers which is a massive security and privacy issue for people. So while it is very customizable I would never recommend it seriously to anyone. Not even gamers. Just use Firefox.
I also feel like there was too much "tell don't show", which made it extremely jarring and exhausting. TOO MUCH dialogue with no advancement.
I actually liked that Penacony was always full of mysteries and didn't try to explain everything in dialogue. We were allowed to come to conclusions ourselves and feel the intrigue and tension run its course. But Amphoreus really blabbed too much with way too much lore about all the titans that I didn't care about. I feel like they should have only introduced us to the titan we are going after that patch and their corresponding Chrysos Heir; and slowly introduce each of them in that order, making it more digestible.
I personnaly enjoyed it
I would really replay the entire part one of HI3 if Hoyo made a remake with a quality like ZZZ
Out of conext question:
Can skip penecony and go to Amphoreus?
Because, as Homu, don't like the atmosphere of the world. Beside , the story sometimes, feels a reverse Sumeru
People living in a dream. . .
(I felt trigger in both since my home country could been both )
First of all I'm not a turn base fan type of player (as I prefer more action like HI3 and ZZZ), HSR is more a chill game for me, Amphoreus is the first ever new world that didn't got me hyped. The neverending puzzle killed the pacing for me despite the Amphoreus lore (Titan, Chrysios heirs, ...) looking insteresting (specially when based on Greek myth).
Do I need to mention Phainon as a FC fan seeing Kevin again made me happy
Honestly 3/10 for 3.0, for incoming version there's lot of room for improvment looking forward for what Dev will gives us after their recent note. Just to mention I enjoyed Penacony (Mostly Acheron part)
As someone who doesn’t play HI3rd but is familiar with surface level lore especially Flame Chase (Su my beloved) I will say until now not knowing the lore hasn’t affected my enjoyment of the experience but the presentation does suffer and I agree they should make it shorter. Like I think a 5 hour one would have been perfectly fine for 3.0
I do hope that 3.0 was only this long because they wanted to lay the groundwork cuz 8 patches of this can get pretty intense and I say that as someone who enjoys the lore and doesn’t play in one go
The only thing thats keeping me from playing Hi3 after part 1 is they removed the male dreamweaver i want to play as male rather than female
I would agree but since the beginning we knew that male version didn't exist, it was just an avatar the MC used. Also there is a good reason as to why he was disabled, it is due to story... if you didn't play obviously you would be confused
Chinese NTR rage
So you played part 1 female only and can't play part 2 because female only ???? Weird
@RoccusTerminal I mean I understand his point but they didn't do it without reason
😂😂😂😂😂 I Agree with the Lack presentation,BUT I think it's just a time for improvement.
Thank for the Notice.
If they can cut corners, they can make a circle of cults. (Genshn hoyochurls, best example)
Exposing and comparing the inadequacies of a game is necessary to improve it.
Praise the defenders, for they themselves will promote the lowering of their game's quality.
Amphoreus the land where I wish the Skip button exists!!!
