I'm guessing that even in real life this tactic is more of a temporary measure to let retreating tanks get a parting shot or two (or more) when their first positions are getting pushed.
I think it can be used that way but typically you'd want to move while being covered by someone else instead. Think of it like infantry moving cover to cover. They don't all move at once but instead they send a group back while another group covers them.
Pretty sure we all used reverse slope at some point, we just didn't know it at the time. I happen to use it a lot on Russian MBTs given the slower reverse speed.
I think one of the main reasons why I feel that Hull down tactics do not work in WT is because of the map design. There are flat maps where that tactic does not work, and there are maps with hills where a 10 degree gun depress is useless because you expose you hull week spots.
It's less of a hull down position, aside some Russian tanks maybe, and more of something to keep in mind to get an opportunity for a shot while you are undetected. And going into forward drive down a slope, you have perfect conditions for a quick repositioning. I would recommend the up-slope movement be done at an angle.
Ive been using this reverse tactic some after i started playing USSR, 2s38 atleast is great for it since i still want to fire behind a defalade but it has no gun depression. leopards and abrams are so much better used the normal way
I can see the hull down you do here, seeing as backing back down is slower than driving forward in most tanks, however some goes easly in reverse as forward, so I guess its prefrerence, atleast you get much more raise than depression in most tanks.
Well this tacktick of reverse hulldown sometimes work for me if in a top hill my tank dosent have enought gun depresion so i just shovel a smoll bump so i can pick over
Biggest problem I have with being hull down is 90% of tanks just have rubbish depression, so it is just so hard to do, I always prefer a good reverse speed so i can corner peak personally.
I can see this work in WT, in a very situational scenario, but how about other games like GHPC? Maps there are less regular, with more slopes, hills and better options for hull down.
Could this tactic be useful on tanks with oscillating turrets 🤔? Like the AMX-50 Surbaissé, I think it would be useful since even though it doesn't have a lot of armor, it's definitely better than having only 20mm, although those turrets also have little elevation
I feel like War Thunder, atleast in Realistic Battlee, is too fast paced and in a too small of a playable area for real tactics to be properly implemented, which is such a shame
In War Thunder i rarely ever used it, but in World of Tanks i abused the shit out of it. :D In WT there are very few tanks with back mounted turret, in WoT you have cancers like the "frying pan" [object 416] which is perfect for this.
Sprocket is probably kinda harsh on youtubers as it takes A LOT of time just designing a tank, and that's for a game :D God sprocket is so nice though. Recently made a new tank with almost similar performance to my 66T tank but with 34T weight! I've made like 40+ tanks though :P The "german" ones looks the best.
Use the russian tactics of leaving your teammates behind then you drive into an urban area and dont pay any attention to your surroundings

I tend to only use the reverse slope with the VFW because of the poor depression but the great elevation.

Love these “Testing real tactics” videos, Definitely keep these up.
Anyway, Great video once more.
Panzer will you ever make a video playing ground sim battles using what you learned?
That would be amazing. I hope he sees your comment.
I’ve been taking my M10 into sim and would love to see this
I did try sim battles in a recent video already but maybe I'll try it again.

I do this all the time with t series tank because of bad gun depression and slow reverse gear

It helps for bad gun depression but elevation will limit how useful this will be. You can still use it but you just have to pick shallower slopes.
try the swedish HERB tactic, or in english is HFSR, i use it in war thunder often and it works well most of the time
And so it does not matter to be first
Are you planning to make a video on simulator soon? Such experiments should work best in simulator in my opinion
Hey. Try this again with the stb or type 74 from japan. They've git hyrdo suspension so the roof armor problem might be solved.
What about rear mounted turrets vehicles like the merkava or vidar.
I've tried it on the VIDAR and it seems to work well. Not sure about the Merkava tho

Isnt the reverse hull down position for tanks with bed negative depression?
I'm not sure what it was intended for since the manual it came from is from 1943. But it definitely helps for bad gun depression.
