    it's important to note is not a free ability. You have to trash a card from your hand to cancel the oponent's on play effects, you can't use it every turn because you are going to self starve. It's going to be an extremely tactic leader to use the ability correctly in the right moments

    • @darkmagiks3605
      @darkmagiks3605 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This exactly. It's potential for oppression is high for sure but being in black with out having your own on plays means your not adding many cards to hand.
      No on play searchers or cards draw. They will eventually run out of steam especially with having to pitch cards to block attacks

      it still has [active:main] to draw card
      I think this is control deck, to block on play card on 8-10 cost for maybe 3 turns to defence kinda like 8 cost moria etc.
      the other 10 costs character black beard remove opponent leader skill in the rest of the game sounds like ruin enel 🤢🤢

    You lost me when you said Nami is a good design and getting aggressive toward the opposite facts. It's not skill issues; it's facts she'S bad design,
    Blue can't have straight draw effect anymore because of her. The opposite is also true: you can play perfectly and just lose to a nami because you can't interact with how she plays.
    Poor take. Biased toward your preferences.

    I think everyone is over reacting. They already released the red Sanji leader that will obliterate this Blackbeard. Same thing happened in OP08 with people freaking out about Marco and King and the Kaido & Big Mom card.... They don't even see play and both decks are only okay not broken. The ability is flashy but I'm not sure it's going to have as much relevance as people make it out to be. I'll save my reaction for when the support gets released and we actually see what the deck will look like.
    p.s. I think it's funny a Nami player is talking about how their deck isn't breaking the game and it's the most skillful matchup while sitting behind the leader lol. I don't hate playing into Nami but I just find it funny. Glad you at least addressed it right after talking about Blackbeard. Not bringing up Nami would have been even funnier

    Trashing a card every turn is everything but free or static in a game that is designed around card advantage.
    And saying that nami is the most skillfull leader is a gross overstatement. There are decks like R/G law that require a whole lot more skill in different areas of the game. Nami in comparison to many other Leaders is even a more simple leader since most of the time you only need to worry about your cards and what they do. I am not saying nami does not require skill but it is a very different and in my opinion easier way to play the optcg than most other decks in most metas.

    The effect of blackbeard is definitely needed for this game. It shuts down the most annoying on play effects in the game. Especially yellow and black. The game has turned into removal piece and this slows down the game to the level it needs to be.

    I have been playing BB on the sim a ton and am absolutely loving it. That deck has tons of draw power and is able to be played differently depending on the matchups. With cards like Jesus and Catarina you can play very agro or you can play very slow if the deck you’re against has a lot of on play cards. This is the only deck I have played where I was comfortable with having 0 cards in my hand.

  • @kevinflack7036
    @kevinflack7036 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    The leader seems powerful but thankfully black does not have card draw so discarding a card can be harmful in the overall scheme of things. I am more concerned with the black support we will be getting for op09 because it usually is thematic and revolves around whatever leader is in the set. If black geta a bunch of useful cards that work around on play abilities it may very well turn into that one color being the only playable color and end up hurting the game.

    I think the anxiety around BB is overblown. Ultimately, he is a leader who's presence in the meta means sometimes you'll be denied value from particular card effects (on play effects) some of the time.
    I don't see how that's different from strong nami presence making your blockers and 2k counters weaker or strong BY luffy presence making your KO effects weaker.

  • @puebloaye7628
    @puebloaye7628 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I can’t say I agree. BB only stops on play effects and only on a selection of specific turns that the user must choose wisely (since you just won’t be able to realistically discard every single turn while also defending yourself and developing your board). Additionally, there are cards that are still good with other types of effects and adapting to the meta us to be expected regardless of who is the meta leader. BB is no different in that respect. Nami is frustrating because it tries to eliminate interaction where BB only limits it (it doesn’t say your opponent can’t activate effects at all). Just like any format, people will just have to build their decks respecting Blackbeard and just have a compromise of both types of effects.

  • @Azninjazn
    @Azninjazn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    probably means his blackbeard crewmates will have either absurd passive effects, activate main or end of turn abilities. or in worst idea senario, has some sort of opponent turn draw effect to maintain leader ability

  • @crypticacid4825
    @crypticacid4825 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A more apt comparison would be if Teferi's ability was -1 instead of static. If you can keep bodies on the board and keep pressure on the BB player, they're going to run out of hand or life very quickly. I have a feeling this card isn't nearly as oppressive as people think

    @ManuelPerez-dt5nv 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I completely disagree with BB being too strong.
    It can shut down some TURNS, but not entire decks, as it costs cards to activate his effect. You can't be discarding cards every turn, unless you're not developing your board or countering out. I think it's a high ceiling card that can really delay some crazy turns (8C Moria, 10C Doffy, etc.), but it wont delay forever.

    The metagame is all arround "on play" effects and hard removals... If you play anything that doesn't do something in the same turn, it probably will just be a wasted card... The game needs a way to play against it.

    I think blackbeard will be fine. His "static" ability in terms of affecting you (the opponent) is an activated ability, so they have to make the choice of discarding a card and losing value whether its a character or counter, or allowing you to make plays. Turning off On Plays is strong but it still leaves behind a fairly statted body usually, in the case of stuff like Big Mom, so i dont think its totally gamebreaking. Obviously no support is revealed so far so we'll have to see how that goes, but even as a nami player i think hes fine as a leader

    "you have to rely on your triggers and rng" too frustrating to play, that statement alone makes me never want to play NAMI, I want to be able to win because I did well.
    NAMI may be balanced and I don't have a problem playing against her, but alternate win conditions shouldn't be abundant they should be few and far between

  • @RiskyReal
    @RiskyReal 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's annoying but at the end of the day you hold onto those on plays when the BB discards the card netting them 0 value- Yes if your deck is full of on plays you'll suffer a bit with maybe some less bodies on board and you'll have to bite the bullet maybe to get a big body out but it's REALLY good for the game having this as an active threat.
    There are so many cards not seeing use because of their ability being Active: Main and people saying it's too ''slow'' but the reason Active: Main is too slow is because of the On Play meta we're currently in, BlackBeard is going to encourage a mix of OnPlay/Active/Vanilla meta as long as it's relevant, or even if blackbeard ends up being horrible as a leader- the fact of the matter is the leader exists and people will need to build around it a little at least.
    This leader could bring back alot of old op02 cards like Garp/Tashigi which I feel should make the game a little healthier(depending on what support BB gets on release) and i'm all for it.

  • @aegiskcc
    @aegiskcc 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't think will be too popular with regular players because this does sound like you will be playing characters with no effect and a not too big percentage of characters with activate main, on ko and when attacking effects. on play is clearly the most representative effect label (?) in this game, so either if blackbeard is very popular, the meta will shift towards not relying on on play. but then, a "normal" deck would probably be very advantaged against a "new meta" deck, so it will depend on each community where that meta ends up at.
    personally, I like this possible schism because it can foster variety, and I hope the card designers decide to add more variety in terms of effect activation.
    personally, I play katakuri and I love it, and even though I wouldn't be able to play my linlins, the thought of having even more reasons to take gedatsu out of my deck for something else (basically the new st20 katakuri blocker) is a dream. as for every leader, there's no telling on whether it will work until we've seen the cards and we've played them.
    but I can't say my perspective isn't entirely skewed because my community isn't the kind of pool of people who will only play meta leaders and lists, and I don't think blackbeard as a character has too much of an appeal here.
    I just hope teach doesn't end up as a ban worthy leader like saka honestly

  • @NavarreOnline
    @NavarreOnline 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The amount of cope in this video is hilarious. Teach forces your pet deck Nami to actually play the game. Lmao Sorry.
    I don't think Teach is that problematic, the clickbait got me clickin'. Teach is certainly not more problematic than Nami that restricts card design.
    On play cards are so powerful in the game, because removal decks (Sakazuki, Moria, Lucci, Law) require on play value. Your characters can't stick, so you need immediate value. There are lots of great cards that can't be played because they have when attacking triggers. So we are in a meta where, if your cards don't have immediate value they are unplayable. Teach is going be like Nami you have to change your strategy, you can't just helmet your way through. Beating Teach will be a skill issue.
