    Thanks so much on a clear, concise and easy to follow guide. I've been running HA for well over a year in a container on my NAS,, but I've been slow to get to grips with how containers work.
    If you're reading this and you have a QNAP or Synology NAS, using their Container program, I highly suggest installing Portainer to do any actual backend stuff (it's also better for duplicating containers to create backups), the Container app and Portainer will run side by side. I found QNAP's Container Station wouldn't run the install command, threw up bad download link error, but Portainer worked as shown in the video a treat. Needed HACS as I'm considering Meross plugs which aren't officially integrated.

      Thanks for the feedback and the input! I'm glad the guide was helpful and that Portainer worked for you. I’m sure your tips will be valuable to others watching the video.

    Officially my new favorite smart house channel. Keeps it short, perfectly clear on the steps, and no unneeded filler discussion. You're the best!

    Thank you for this tutorial.
    This is 101 information but when you start to thinker around with HA for first time its better to have this kind of compressed and clear videos on how to do something.

    Works great, thank's a lot ! Other topic: I and many user miss the HA Addons function when they are running HA in a Docker container on a raspberry pi. I your video the Addon function is available, made you something special ?

      HA running on Docker has no add-on functionality, my video probably showed another HA test setup for recording purposes only.

    Thank you for your video, it's very interesting when you're just starting out as I am.
    How can I install HACS if I use docker-compose? I thought of installing Portainer via docker compose and then doing what you recommend, but isn't there a line to add directly to docker compose?

    • @SimplySmartHouse

      I’m glad you found it helpful!
      Sure, there are detailed instructions on how to install Portainer using docker-compose in here:

      Hope that helps🤞

    I followed the steps for Docker in my Synology NAS but the HA logo just brings up a page with a HACS link to a page telling me what HACS is. I've tried restarting HA but made no difference.

    • @SimplySmartHouse

      I'm not sure what's the difference in Synology system, would you like me to create a video/guide about that?

    There is no result for HACS inside add integration feature.
    Will try install via portainer, hope its work.

    How are you running Portainer and Supervisor at the same time

    • @SimplySmartHouse
      @SimplySmartHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not on my docker setup, i probably included a video from my other HA instance which has a Supervisor.

    • @scotthewitt6047
      @scotthewitt6047 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimplySmartHouse I run HA Supervised on docker container but not liking that I can't use docker-compose. Thinking of dropping the supervisor so I can add more containers. Only problem is I can't find any how to on where and how I add other containers in home assistant using compose.

    • @SimplySmartHouse
      @SimplySmartHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      That was exactly my path, from HA Supervised on docker to running unsupervised with docker and docker-compose, I have future plans to create videos about docker and Home Assistant.

    Does this method work in HA Core?

    • @mberkangr
      @mberkangr หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because a different menu appeared. -> ibb.co/DrrgZbf

    • @SimplySmartHouse
      @SimplySmartHouse  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's almost the same:
      1. Open a terminal
      2. Change to the user that is running Home Assistant
      3. Run the HACS download script
      4. After the script completes, restart Core

    Wait, you are downloading hacs into docker. How does this survive restarts?

    • @SimplySmartHouse
      @SimplySmartHouse  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The same way your HA configuration survives restarts.
      You should have some kind of persistent volume.

    is there a similar option to integrate a file editor?

    • @SimplySmartHouse
      @SimplySmartHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, you can install Visual Studio Code in a separate Docker container to edit Home Assistant files. Is this what you were referring to?

      @@SimplySmartHouse yes how do i do that?

      @SimplySmartHouse  ปีที่แล้ว

      This isn't just a simple command. I am currently in the process of creating a video on my Docker setup that will cover this topic, but until then, you can refer to an excellent article written by @HomeAutomationGuy, which explains how to use Visual Studio to edit your Home Assistant configuration YAML file over SSH. Here is the link to the article: www.homeautomationguy.io/blog/home-assistant-tips/using-visual-studio-to-edit-your-home-assistant-configuration-yaml-file-over-ssh

      The setup I'm using is more similar to this:
      www.wouterbulten.nl/posts/home-automation-setup-docker-compose/#docker-compose-for-vs-code-server
      It uses docker compose though, if you are using Portainer you can set it up more easily.
