What he is playing there at 2:38 is a extremely complicate version of the Congolese sebene music (very popular in Africa and a part of Columbia). What a beast, by the exception of Larnell Lewis, very few western drummers manage this beat.
I think that is the most impressive thing I've seen him do. He was so fast there, it seems like he gave up a little speed later in life in favor of hitting harder. ymmv
Disagree. People belive that certain kids are geniuses and they are above the rest but is a hell of an oversimplied version of reality. This video talks more his parents than himself. These were parents nurturing a kids natural affinity for music. When a parent nurtures a kids affinity for something then tge kid absorbs that information because their brains aren't saturated with the excessive current information, this is why the neocortex of an elder person is way bigger and more complex than the one of a kid.
Eloy is somehow like our (i am 27) generation's dave lombardo. He brings the latin vibes into metal. Since young he has done a magnificent job playing technical drums with samba and thrash.
Dave was my favorite Metal drummer until i heard this guy Eloy! Don't get me wrong i will always defend Lombardo but this eloy is a prodigy playing like that at 14!
3:42 - Sounds kinda like a cross between 'Ijexá' aka 'Afoxé (the figure played on those green/yellow blocks) and 'Maracatú' (the snare figure)...then he launches into Samba-Jazz/Samba-based things 3:51-4:43
Had the honor to catch one of his clinics in 2006 in Lafayette, LA. His mentor was Aquiles Priester. Craziest thing I remember was that he straight up said he spent WAY more time playing soccer than playing drums. Guy was a beast so young!
Andy watching your drum reaction videos, catching up with your older ones, it has inspired me to pick up sticks and finally begin to learn to play. I am not sure what I am doing but you talking about it and everything got me to give it a try. Keep doing what you are doing you’re a really cool guy.
The great thing of Eloy is that he's one of the first that apperead on an era that we knew our idols bf fame and how they built their greatness. Most of great idols of rock and metal got recognition after release of first album. Eloy is different. Here in Brazil, there was a female pop singer that heard him playing and take him to the most famous Sunday TV program just to perform a solo. It was a year after this video I guess. Imagine one of the most famous artist of the country (a singer) hearing you, a kid, play drums and uses her contacts in the music industry to put the whole country to watch you. I was a teen back then, already a metal fan and he wasn't a metal musician yet. And I remember until this day watching him in awe...
I've seen many many awesome fast drummers in my time with awesome chops but THIS is absolutely the most insane thing I've ever seen WOW! only 14 years old an he is smashing it, that is a whole other level, BRAVO!!!
Haha haha.. Only in this video has this guy hit more on the battery than me In my whole life . And I've been playing for a few years now. What a beast he was already a child. The Best .
How about quick review about Kai Hahto - Escape from Oakland. As a Finn I love his drumming but he is so good in genres! Kai said in this clinic that he's out of his comfort zone
Eloy is 100% one of, if not THEE most powerful metal drummer out there. Is he the fastest? No. But from start to finish, he is a full throttle powerhouse that is a force to be reckoned with. I follow him on IG & YT and watch all his videos. I'm pretty sure he never makes a mistake. OH, and when he broke his right leg back in April of this year when he fell off the stage, he got surgery the next day and he continued to play shows WITH HIS LEFT FOOT, and used a floor tom/kick combo to create double kick patterns. Like I said, a force to be reckoned with. Nothing was stopping him. Everything about him is just impressive: his power, his syncopation, his meter, and did I mention his power? LOL Those poor drums and cymbals taking a beating night after night.

The only way to comprehend Eloy's grandeur on drums, is to think his parents conceived him on a drum set!!!! That GUY IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!!
He is Rafael!
I think it was more like Damien's origin in 'The Omen' he was conceived BY a drum set :D
