Guy Gavriel Kay is basically like Tool. He has that raw tenacity of Undertow, the intensity of Aenima, the scope and precision of Lateralus and perfectly structured narrative of Fear Inoculum. Also the emotion of early APC. He's basically the Maynard James Keenan of fantasy. He has everything. And it's all usually done in one book
Tigana: Awesome Atmosphere, Best Worldbuilding, Complex Wizard Villains. Weakest GGK main characters I have read so far, but that is putting an 8 up against 9 and 10s. Al-Rassan: Ditto Atmosphere, Awesome main and side characters. Weakest villains, but again, still passable: More focus on the tension between the main character. Great intrigue, duels, ambushes and assassinations over focusing on the main war. Minimal magic, but still plays a role. The Song of Arbonne (Personal favorite): Awesome main characters in Blaise of Gorhaut (warrior/assassin in exile) and Beltran (Noble troubadour), good villains, cool atmosphere. Sailing to Sarentium (current read): Epic and stealthy prologue, showing everyday life and court intrigue gone lethal. Main character is an artist that has to travel under his senior partners name to an analogue to 6th Century Byzantium, having to pass through provinces that still sacrifices humans to pagan gods…
I missed the show last night because I was out book shopping. Strangely I was looking for Bloody Rose but nobody had it. I was able to pick up Salem’s Lot and Fairy Tale along with Babel.
Damn the time difference, I wish I could have seen it live. Great to hear Nicholas Eames give an update on Outlaw Empire and talk about books, drinks and videogames.
Kings of the Wyld was definitely one of my favorite books that I've read in the last year and a half! Fun with emotional beats. Bloody Rose was great too.
Mike commented he doesn’t like boat shows because “it’s not like a character can be swimming and just jump on the boat” Literally the main storyline in Rings of Power 😅 😂
For GGK my recommendation is like was said before Tigana is a good starting point and my favorite is El-rassan (fionavar is a little different since it's a series and have a difrent tone then the others)
Black-Tongued Thief was tough too. I don't know why, but I pictured that blonde dude from guy Ritchie's Robin Hood as the main protagonist. Really enjoyed that book too

Mike this is non related to your interview with Nic but I wanted to recommend that you read Kagen the Damned by Jonathan Maberry. It’s a fantastic fantasy novel from a well known horror/suspense author. I’m sure you’ve heard of him or even maybe read some of his Ledger novels. Which are all also very good if you haven’t.
Hope you like it as much as me. He is actually releasing the second part here in the next few months I believe. It is called, “Son of the Poison Rose.”
Miiiike what up. If a DnD movie is to ever work, I think it needs to be so serious about not being serious, that every character is blatantly nothing like their player character. Basically, RDJ in Tropic Thunder, but the whole cast is doing goofy shit like that the whole movie. Could work
I mean, they bought the rights and can do what they want, and as a consumer it is also my right to not like those changes and/or the production value of the show. Talk about review bombing though, there are lots of 10/10 as well. No way RoP is a 10/10 show.

I have the first edition soft cover and it’s red and looks like the first edition hard cover is the white.
