Killers at 16? I'd have Killers No.2 (after NOTB). However, everyone has different tastes and I really enjoyed your ranking. Your Megadeth ranking video very good also, wonderful seeing such love in the Comments and from yourself of Killing Is My Business!

While I wouldn't rank it below the Blaze-era albums, I do find it much less enjoyable than the debut. The production is better than the first album but, I love the songs more on the self titled intro to the band. I have to say that you're on point with your tact though. I don't much care for the visceral nature of a lot of the comments on subjects like this one. I can't understand how there are so many people that don't seem to think there could be any way to see things but their own.

you lost me at number 16 lol. Killers is killer, go back and repeat listen until you come to your senses Boulder!! Then AMoLaD at 14, I think we're going to fall out with each other here. Terrible ranking so far, lol. You redeem yourself on the top 5, honestly they could have been in any order and I'd find it hard to disagree. There’s no right or wrong. It’s just people’s opinion about music. For example, my first Iron Maiden album was Dance of Death, and when i heard it for the first time, I had a lot of eargarms and I liked every song. So Dance of Death is in my top 3 Iron Maiden album, simple as that 😉

3rd best album, most of the songs except "only the good die young", "The prophecy" and "7th son of 7th son", are masterpieces, but these songs mentioned are slightly weaker. On Somewhere in Time, there are "No Weak" Songs at All. Power slave has a couple of songs, which could be considered weaker e.g. the duellists and back iin the village..But I actuallly love both of those songs, I still consider somewhere in time, clearly the best album and the Greatest Album in metal history imo

    1. Somewhere in Time (first maiden album I ever bought back on release day in 86 and nothing will ever replace it as number 1)

    3. Seventh Son (first time I seen maiden was on this tour - Edinburgh Playhouse November 88)

Well, as far as I am concerned - and as somebody new to Maiden and Metal, I somehow think that their first 2 albums somehow do not really sound like Maiden - and not because of the singer, but because of the musik. On the first album their ist only the "Phantom of the Opera" which sounds like maiden - what about the rest...is that rally Maiden? And on the Killers there is "Genghis Khan", but the other songs sound different - anyway, I also like "Killers" though it is not my favorite. To my, the albums got better and better from the first to the "peace of mind" which is my favorite. And all other albums of the 80ies are very good, to my mind. And then again they changed somehow.

I don't dislike Blaze's albums at all either and I quite enjoy his solo releases. My band Veil of Deception of opened for Blaze twice and he is a true gentleman. The first time they totally blew me away as they played "Cómo estáis amigos?". I wasn't ready for that. That song is a true underrated Gers/Bayley gem! Keep it up bud. Cheers, Daniel

Always cherished The X factor. Uncle gave me a cassette with this album as a Christmas present when I was 12 years old. I instantly got hooked by its dark atmosphere and I also think that Blaze's voice fits the mood of the album quite well (frankly I have always preferred Blaze singing over Paul di Anno). Really enjoyed your take on this list. I’ve been a very casual maiden fan, enjoying the hits and saw them at the O2 thanks to my sister, but I’m just fully jumping in now. I’m listening to 1 album a week in order and I’m on my 3rd week so listening to probably the “quintessential” maiden album this week.
Of the 3, killers definitely has the edge, so your ranking of it did give me a chuckle.

My family and I just seen Iron Maiden in Tulsa, Oklahoma last September and it was a dream come true as I've been a fan since 1984 when my older cousin gave me Powerslave that he had gotten for Christmas but he ended up giving it to me because I liked metal more than him. That's probably my number one too, such a great album. Side note: Live After Death is my favorite live album. Oh and Number of the Beast is definitely my number two. Great ranking! Very similar to mine, oh The Number of the Beast was also my first album. And couldn’t agree more about the Blaze Bayley era and about how The X Factor wouldn’t have sound as good with Dickinson. I was just surprised with AMOLAD and The Final Frontier being so low in your ranking, specially I was surprised that you think Lord of Light is a track you don’t care about. That’s IMO one of Iron Maiden’s heaviest tracks ever, you should give it a new chance one day. And The Talisman on The Final Frontier is probably one of Bruce’s best vocal performances from the later era. But other than that, I agree so much with your notes on most albums. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Brave New World - I just picked this up again and I love it. Listening on repeat!
    2. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - This got me into metal and most importantly, Maiden.
    3. Caught Somewhere in Time

    5. Final Frontier - I think it's criminally underrated

Wow, so many great albums to choose from. My list would be quite different from yours. It's always interesting to hear another serious fan's take on the Maiden catalog. My top three would be Seventh Son, Somewhere in Time, and then Powerslave. That Somewhere picture disc is awesome! I always have a weak spot for the first albums where I was introduced to the band. Powerslave is just epic from start to finish, not to mention the artwork and concert stage. Maiden at it's pinnacle. Always said, if I had a time machine, I'd venture back to Long Beach Arena...

Great that they will play Alexander the Great at the next tour in 2023! I've seen Maiden live since Powerslave to the last tour in 2022, but didn't bother through the Blaze era as I thought that the songs were not crafted for him by Steve. Some songs, in retrospect, were pretty decent though. Somewhere in time is my #1 as the guitar work is out of this world, but Powerslave is a close 2nd. Rime of the ancient mariner is perhaps my #1 song overall from Maiden, as it has been in my top 3 consistently since 1984.

I was shocked too Mr Boulder 🤣 Killers is always in my top 5 Maiden albums, sometimes in my top 3. I was amazed to see stuff like Fear of the Dark, the Blaze albums go in ahead of it but hey. Killers is simply the heaviest and most aggressive album Iron Maiden ever recorded, which I like a lot. I think immediately after they went in a different direction very quickly with Bruce with the epic metal/proto power metal thing. I was also intrigued to see where you would rank the debut after seeing Killers so low. You suggest you are not a big fan of Di Anno’s voice. He does not have Bruce’s range but I think he was a great singer too. I always thought the debut had good songs but poor production. I always thought Martin Birch and Adrian Smith came in and beefed up their sound to make Killers better than the debut. I would urge you to give Killers a re-listen and have as open a mind with it as you do the Blaze albums.

@@mrboulder9714 cheers, fair call! I admit to being ‘one of those’ IM fans that could never connect to the Blaze albums, despite several attempts. I recognise he’s a really good singer and quite like some of his recent solo material. It’s just that with a couple of exceptions like Sign of the Cross I find his style didn't seem to fit… too flat for my tastes.

Well, the Blaze albums not so far at the end...you rank them better than "fear of" ...and "no prayers", I think this is the first ranking where I saw this...at least I agree with you - to my mind, the Blaze albums habe several good songs...well, I am new to Metal because we started a Metal project in February after one year of Corona and I somewho started liking Metal...so I am surely not comparable to most Maiden fans...I used to listen to Coldplay (I must admit I still like them) and the hardest music I heard before was probably the red hot chili peppers, thank you for your interesting ranking, Mr. Boulder

@@mrboulder9714 Thank you for your answer...I somehow feel that if you listen to "Rock" music like Coldplay or the chili peppers (for example) the step to Metal is not a very big one - at least as far as "Traditional Metal" etc. is concerned...There are still some types like Black/Death Metal with which I have my problems...but who knows, perhaps later, but until now, ower composer has only created tradition/symphonic and Thrash Metal...so i don't need to like Death Metal...

  • @patriotpizzaman

I share your opinion on the first two albums. I've always preferred the debut over Killers. While I do really enjoy Murders In The Rue Morgue, Wrathchild, and Killers, the rest is a bit meh for me. I don't hate it by any stretch of the imagination but, it didn't live up to the debut in my eyes. I got Iron Maiden's eponymously titled debut album a week after I purchased the freshly minted Number Of The Beast album and I played the two of them relentlessly. I saw them open for Judas Priest at City Island in Harrisburg, Pa on that tour! The two bands immediately became the focus of our listening and MTV was playing the videos of both bands as well by this time so we were totally absorbed by the burgeoning Metal scene at that time.1981-1988 was an amazing time to be coming of age! I stood in the first row on the left side of the stage in front of Dave Murray at the Spectrum in Philedelphia a few years later on the Powerslave tour! One of the most amazing shows I ever saw! I am beginning to come around on some of the Blaze era and I have been giving Virtual XI it's day in court recently. I agree with Futureal being an incredible track. I will have to seek out this shortened "single" version of The Angel And The Gambler. The original cut is just grueling! I cannot make it through without consciously forcing myself not to hit skip.
(I paused and sought out the edited version of Angel and the Gambler. I found a 6:02 edit and a 4:12 edit. Both of which are preferable to the album track but, if I'm being completely honest, the 4:12 is all I need but, they should have removed the keyboard stabs in the beginning of the song. The hammond organ during the solo section is great though.)
    My top 5:
(Very much a product of my entry point to their music being 1982. While the order tends to rotate around on the 6th - 17th, Senjutsu is in my top ten and threatening to crack into my top five. Just a brilliant album upon repeated listening. It's a bonafide classic! Releasing an album of this high-quality, 40 years after their initial masterpiece is phenomenal! Absolutely amazing to see them thriving this far into their career!)
    05) Somewhere In Time
    04) Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
    03) Number Of The Beast
    02) Piece Of Mind
    01) Powerslave

I have more time for Killers now but still think the debut is much better
