I'm a Panthers' fan and Monty was one of my favorite players. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he was going to be gone at the end of the season due to Florida having to deal with Reinhart's extension first and foremost and making sure that they didn't go over the cap. He is a great player and had a great three year run (21 - 24) with the Cats.
That being said, the Kraken grossly overpaid for the privilege of signing him. He is 30 years old and has 80 percent of his best performances behind him. In addition, he missed 20 percent of Florida's games las year and you never know when that starts becoming a trend. There's no doubt that Florida would have preferred to keep him but only at something like half the AAV that he got from the Kraken.
