If you think those posts are heavy now , just wait until you are in your 70s. Happy to see Hunter again. My grandson who is also autistic loves to get birthday cards. I would live to send Hunter a birthday card----talk it over with the family and I am sure the TH-cam family would pitch in too. Happy spring , the snow and ice are gone in Southern Vermont.

You let Hunter know I also wear my slippers outside. I have been known to go to town with them on too. And once headed to work with them on, I had to turn around and go get my work shoes. Also it warms the heart to see him show affection to his mother. A true gentleman 🙂

Great idea in the horizontal Square frame... May of been better to build two ontop of each other so you can slide a upper and a lower one up. That said I think that will work great for a run-in we will be building this spring too.
It was awsome to see Hunter come out... So great... You can see he likes being included when your wife waved away the bees and Hunter charged right out there.
Your doing a great job Hunter. Thank you for participating and being some great on communicating. 👍 😊. Our son, Ryan, jumps into his PJs to relax when home too.

Hunter brightens every scene he's in! It is casual Friday, you know. I'm not in favor of cement around the posts. My opinion is to not feed the bugs. Pour the cement in the holes and set the poles in brackets on top of the cement. The same method now commonly used for pole barns. Should a pole become damaged it is easy to replace and the creepy crawlly things can't eat cement. Tell Hunter "Hi! from Rhode Island. BTW Burger King grilled chicken sandwiches are my favorite, too. Had one today, mmmm, good!

Interesting way to square up your building. Enjoy seeing Hunter, and Melissa. Now I know where all the good weather is, cause it sure ain't no count here in Alabama, rain, wind storms, repeat... Also wouldn't worry about it being too big, once you get your stuff in there all that room will disappear, and it can be a nice cozy place for you and the wife.

Nice start for the blind. 8'x8' will be right. I have 2 8'x8' "condo" blinds and the extra room gets taken up quickly when you have multiple hunters. Hope you install stairs and not a ladder access. Stairs make entry so much easier for younger hunters down the road when you get little hunting buddies. Hunter will be able to access easier in his slippers. Since Hunter was featured in the birth of the blind, you need to have him christen it the Morgan Mansion with a bottle of pop when it is complete. Calling it Hunter's Hunting Haven is another name that came to mind. You may want to open it up to other suggestions and a vote for naming the blind.

That is a really clever idea for setting the posts and I like that corner level, It is going to be a good structure whatever it's use. I’ve been waiting for this video series since the day you mentioned box blind. I still can’t fathom an 8x8. I have a couple that are 4x4 and 4x6. Plenty big enough for two. When you go bigger, for me anyway, you need to move around a lot more to see out in every direction. At any rate I can’t wait to see it when finished. I do know for sure it will be built to perfection with no detail spared. I’m going to build one more this year on my Pa piece, maybe you’ll give me a great idea for mine. I’m sure Hunter will love hanging out in the blind as well. Anxiously awaiting.

Great job here Mike... I appreciate the way you are thinking outside the box getting the posts set in place, well done... Up here in the north country of N. Central VT., the frost can run pretty deep. ( 3' - 5' ) I picked up this trick from an ole timer that was bldg. his camp on posts set on concrete footings. Some scraps of 2" thermal blue board cut to fit the round holes were packed in place first, then the concrete was poured into the holes & then set to grade. It will never be seen, but it does act as a thermal barrier, helps prevent frost heaving. I don't think this will be an issue in your part of the woods.
Great to see Melissa & Hunter out & about too...

Yo Mike- To your question of how others secure their blind platform posts: Our camp is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula where wx extremes are the norm. All of our 'tower' type blinds are built on raised platforms set with treated 4 x 4 posts in post holes dug manually with post hole digger. Some small stone is placed at the bottom of each hole (enhance drainage) and then holes are back filled with pea gravel (no concrete). Our blinds range in size and roof style with most newer built ones also sporting a small rear deck for easier access. The oldest blind was actually a purchased cedar box blind that had to be assembled on the platform. That box blind finally died (good riddance, because it became mouse infested as well as other unwanted critters). Yet, the platform we built as described above is still solid as a rock after 23 seasons. Therefore, we simply built a new, roomier and virtually critter proof blind on the existing platform. Over the past several years, We have found it most efficient to design, build and assemble our blinds at our downstate home in the garage over the winter. Each blind is designed to be disassembled and pieces transported in a small, 5 x 10 utility trailer 250 miles north, then transported into the woods by ATV trailer to the specified blind location and reassembled on site. Could probably speed up the process if you would be kind enough to lend us one of your tractors. 😁 Pics available upon request. BlackHillsDeerCamp@gmail.com

Have to admit, I like Hunter's style, stays comfy.☺.... Sure showed me a new way of squaring up a layout. I have an 8x8 garden tool shed, after its all closed in it won't seem so big, it'll be just perfect for yourself and/or with a buddy. 2 sheets of 3/4 plywood for floor with hardly no cutting. 😉... I would heavy black plastic the underside and insulate that floor and help heat it up costing A Lot less gas in the long run in not having to run the heater wide open for so long... I've been in insulated and non-insulated hunting blinds and Man what a Huge difference.👍

Nice to see Hunter in the video . Nothing wrong with wearing slippers outside . I do that all the time . I'm bad . You can see that you're both very proud of your son . Smart way of squaring things up . I have used a L shaped 4X8 sheet of plywood to square things out . Never think that anything is too big when building a structure . More is always better . You'll appreciate the extra room when you start filling it with stuff . Example a nice cot to sleep on if need be . Good to see that you're getting a chance to break in your new shotgun . I shot skeet and trap myself . I love building stuff videos . I was able to build my 12X16 shed just by watching youtube videos . Too bad you never did one on your chicken coop . I was looking forward to that one . Great video . Thanks

Thank you for showing us this. It's a great way to do it. Also, I really like the square you use to guide your circular saw.

Great to see Hunter co-star in one of your videos. Hope to see him more. Our best to the entire family from the mountains of North Carolina.
