Hello, what is first and second range of extra grinding exactly? And volumetric shot, I do apologize just received my machine and UGH is all I can say 😊
Hi Tom! I've watched a whole bunch of your videos on the La Specialista Arte which has been super informative. One thing I wanted to confirm is for the double basket that comes with the machine, does it hold 16mg or 18mg? For some reason I started doing 18mg and in order for the pressure to be within about 9-10 bars I have to grind at setting 6.
I normally do 16 grams, but it might fit 18 grams of light roasted beans, since they are denser. The baskets are always designed for a range, so I would say this one is good for 16-18 grams, if I remember right.

Hey Miguel, no it looks slightly different. The Presigio does not seem to have a setting for the Preinfusion pause Check page 22 of the manual: www.delonghi.com/en/manuals/ec9355-bm-la-specialista-prestigio-manual-espresso-maker/p/EC9355.BM
Hey Tom!! I have this machine, the descale light came on and I was preparing to do so, but I can’t get the mode selector to change from espresso… what am I missing?
Preinfusion pause is the time to wait after wetting the puck, before the machine starts building up pressure for the extraction. I am not sure what the extra grind range does to be honest.
hi tom, great video - i learned so much from you. Bought the same machine a few days ago - my problem is the temperature is always going to high (at the red zone all of the time) how can i change that? Thank you!
My best tip is to warm up the portafilter first, by dunking it in hot water, like from a water kettle. Know what I mean? The portafilter is too cold at room temperature.
Tom - I am having difficulty with this. How do you decide the temperature ? What do you mean by ‘porter filter’ ‘tear it out’ ‘tear out your scale’ Also what is a pre-infusion pause for ? Confused of UK.
I would suggest using the hot setting. Taring out the scale just means zeroing it out. The pre-infusion pause is just waiting for the puck to absorb the first bit of water. Cheers!
Thanks for this, Tom! I have a question for you, if that’s ok. I notice you programme here the quantity of output for espresso. I noticed in other videos you press the OK button to stop it when you get the amount you want. Why is that necessary if it’s already programmed? Thanks a lot!
Hi again Tom, Im starting to understand things more about the la specialista arte. Its specific but I wont give up😊. One more question please. Which option is the best with to set the pre-infusion pause time. None, one or two seconds?
Any idea on why my grinder won’t stop grinding? I just opened it all up and cleaned the burr, but doesn’t seem to stop at the time I set it to. Help pls !
Hi Tom Thanks for the video just received my la specialist arte two things I cant make a foamy type cappucino no matter what I do it comes up as just like tea texture. 2. pressure doesn't go to the optimal zone. I tried changing grind setting to 2 from 5. still the same I am using three bars as temperature for espresso
Hi Tom. Do I understand correctly that you are doing single shot from double dose of coffee? In videos I watched you are using cca 16-18g of grounded beans for one 30g shot in extraction time of 25-30seconds. In that case how are you making double espresso - in two cups in one time? Maybe is this question trivial, but I don 't understand. I just bought this machine and I am not able to do turn 7-9g of beans into 30g espresso in 25seconds (with single basket). I tried to change grinding into "1" but it doesn't helps. thanks
Hi! For a single shot, try 10 grams in, 20 grams out, in 20 seconds or so. If that is not possible, try fresher roasted beans. Also, this machine does not grind super fine, so this ratio in that time might not be attainable. Cheers!
Wen you measure a volumetric dose, will it be automatically programmed for the next time you choose espresso? Or do you have to hold the OK button each time?
hi Tom, great video! I have been using dark roast beans and I've always got way too much pressure (in the red zone). I set the grinding fineness around 3-4, and the temperature at MAX (the one with all three lights). And I just realized if I should set the temperature to MIN (the one with only one light at the bottom)? I'm not sure the recommended 'Roast colour' for each temperature level refers to the beans. If I'm using dark roast beans only, would you suggest set the temperature to MIN?
Hi there! Typically, the lighter the roast, the higher the extraction temp you should use. But feel free to experiment with the different temps, to tune to your taste. Cheers!
Idk what I'm doing wrong but mine just always stop extracting after a few seconds no matter what I do. I want it to be the same Tom has it where I can manually press Ok to start and stop extraction whenever I want to. Can anybody help? (Even pressing Ok long and setting the amount doesn't help)
Hi Tom, thanks for the video. I am unboxing my La Specialista Arte; the temperature indicator is always off (the trhee ligts) and the cofee selector is always lighted at Hot water, even if I move to Americano or Expresso. Do you know what is the problem?
I've had this issue, but my machine is way out of warranty now. I had to purchase a specific part which sits behind the selector. Lucky for me mine is stuck on the Americano setting so I can just skip the hot water pour and still get a pull off the head.
Hi Tom, just got my machine today, a quick question, the steam wand always stops around 10 seconds, is there anyway to adjust the time? My previous Bambino normally can steam 45 seconds before auto stop. Thanks!
Hi there, it shouldn't be stopping until you tell it to stop. It will only revert back to coffee mode if you run out of water, from what I know. Might need to check with your dealer if you can return it for a new one.
I have older version of eletta cappuccino top and my problem is that it doesn't make enough coffee.. on manual it says do this and that to customize how much you want and even then the cup is does not get full any solutions?
If I'm using dark roast beans, what should be the temp setting? In the manual it says, dark should at the lowest setting but when I try to take a shot, I couldn't to the optimal zone. So I guess I'm getting a bad shot, right? Thank you!
Hey Randell, I am planning to do a video soon on reaching the "optimal zone." It has nothing to do with temp, and much more to do with dose amount, grind fineness, and bean freshness. Try updosing, using fresher beans, or grinding finer. Cheers!
Hi Tom, when im doing grinding process, which set bet 10-15 sec / 2 to 6 grind level im still playing it up to now, the amount machine grind always fill max on porta guide, dumping some of ground bean always, any suggestion on this
Hi Guillermo, I would just set the timer to a lower time, and bump it up slowly. Better to have too little than to waste. You can always start and stop the grinder manually by nudging the button, to add a few more grams.
I want to ask a question about a dose level. When I turn the knob on the Min it actually equals 10 seconds , but you have mentioned that when you set the knob on the 15 just like in the picture it equals 15 seconds .Is there a way to set the time on the dose level in a different way than you have shown ?
No, unfortunately not. You just have to find a setting that works for you, and try to keep that setting. I would suggest weighing your dose. I can normally get 15-16 grams on the 13-15 setting, depending on the roast and freshness of the beans.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thank you very much for your answer. Can I ask just one more question? I set the knob on the minimum , I measured the time- which is 10 seconds and I measured the ground coffee- which is 15 grams for dose level 1.I am interested , What time do you get when you turn the knob on the minimum ? I know that maybe it all depends on the coffee beans etc...but still I am curious ! Thanks !
Hi Tom , thank you for your answer. It's clear that the times are not the same even though it is the same espresso machine. Dial Time Min -10s 10-16s 20-22s 30-28s 40- 34s I am interested if there is a possibility of adjusting the espresso machine to your exact measures ( time of grinding)? Thanks a lot for your patience !
Hi Tom! Your videos are super helpful! I was misunderstanding coffee my whole life 😅. Regarding the dose level, you said it's nothing more than a timer, maybe I'm getting you wrong, but it's not the time that the grinder works, right? Because it's working for much less time than 15 seconds when set to 15. Can you kindly clarify this point? Another question, if I select 1 cup and 15 level of dose, is it roughly 8 grams? If so, then how I can read the numbers of the dose knob?
Hi there! Well, it is a timer, but the increments do not designate the time. That would have been more intuitive. You just have to find the correct amount by trial and error. You just need to use a scale. Cheers!
Hi Tom, I hope you’re doing fine! I was just wondering, my arte came with 2 cups. When dialing it in are the values the same for both cups? I’m referring to the extraction amount being twice as high as the grinded coffee I put in and the extraction time being ~25 sec. ? Thank you very much!

Hi Tom, your videos are great and so informative. We are just about to get rid of our Magnifica Automatic and opt for one of the La Specialistas. Would you recommend the Prestigio over the Arte? Thanks.
Hi! Is I understand it, the prestigio has dual thermal blocks, which means you can steam milk and pull espresso at the same time. Also, it has an integrated tamper. Personally, I think the Arte model provides the best value in the lineup.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thank you for getting back to me with your advice. After much debating, we opted for the Maestro model. We had to travel some distance to get a good deal. Would you be putting out a video on the Maestro? I will look out for your videos anyway. I’m addicted to good coffee, but I do take a little milk with mine. Very fresh beans are hard to come by in NZ. I’ll probably grow a few trees, as it gets quite humid in the warmer months where I live, and I believe they require humid conditions.
Hey Tom, I have got this La Specialista Arte I have got the grind settings set to 5 and the dosage set to 18 secs and the extraction pressure gauge was hitting the middle of the optimal zone and I was getting a strong coffee without the bitter taste, and all of a sudden (I haven't changed any settings just the extraction pause from one second to two seconds) and now it's just passing the optimal zone creating a slightly bitter taste! Have you got any pointer to get it back to the mid optimal zone?
Hey Adam, you could just switch back to your previous preinfusion setting. I feel like the preinfusion on the La Specialista is a tad long anyway, so I switched my pause to 0. Otherwise, the coffee puck is so saturated, that the extraction is too short. At least that is my opinion. Cheers!
Hi Tom, I have the same machine and wanted to pull a double espresso shot volumetric dose to achieve a 1:2 ratio, Thing is the machine is pulling out the shots too quick and it doesn't reach the optimal zone if I time it.By default settings I have no problem reaching the optimal zone for a good shot, but yields around 70ml of coffee which you can consider as a Lungo. How do I go about this?
Hi Tom, I have the dose setting on the minimum but it weighs approx 18g and the grounds are above the recommended dose line. Can you suggest any other changes that would help this?
Hi Laura, I would suggest to either grind finer, or just stop the grind manually, by pushing the portafilter in again, against the button. You can start and stop any time you like. Then just weigh your dose, and aim for 16 grams.
In this machine I’ve found 18 grams works best but like you this thing won’t stop any earlier that 25 grams of coffee u less you stop it manually. I even tried it right above minimum and it still ran for over 10 seconds grinding.

Hello, I really appreciated your tutorial and thank you for it. However, I still have one question: Can you explain to me step by step how to set the quantity of drink for an Americano? The manual is clear for espresso, but nothing for Americano.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Hi Tom!
Where did you get the bottomless portafilter ? 🤩
It's a Neouza, but I am not sure if they are in stock right now...
Do you time the shot and if so, are you not counting the eight seconds of infusion time? My shot is coming out way too fast with this machine despite measuring everything out
I have a question about the extra grind setting? What’s it for and what range should I choose? First range or second?
That just means it grinds for another 10 seconds. I'd avoid that setting!
When you changed the settings on this video is that the best setting to use? Or did you go back to default settings?
I like to stay with hot temp, and hard water. Those are my preferences.
@TomsCoffeeCorner still unable to get mine to around 9 on the like you have done in your videos. Am I doing something wrong? Mine goes almost to the end in high most times.
Great video, massive help!
Awesome, Derek! Glad it could help...I just hate reading manuals, so I made this for future reference.
Hi Tom, do you have a video of the how to grind the coffee with different coffee beans? I have some beans I have to set it to 5 because if not it gives me the error of coffee ground too fine?
I have delonghi ec935x and cleaning the brew head/coffee outlet, have followed the manual process of cleaning but it does not finish the cleaning, sort of stays at orange blinking lights. Plse assist here
@TomsCoffeeCorner what portafilter is that im trying to find a bottomless one for my machine in UK with single and double basket
Hi Tom. Would you please let me know the size of filter (51mm or 54mm) basket this machine
Hi, it's 51mm. All Delonghi is 51mm. Cheers!
Hello Tim, is this espresso extraction time setting saved in machine or will I always have to press and hold the "OK" button for the desired time and weight?
Hey Mario, once you program the volume, the machine will remember it, even if you unplug it.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Hi Tom! Is there any way to reset it back to factory default time?
Very clear explanation. Thank you
about the volumetric shot, everything made 100% sense, than I saw you had 2x selected. Doesn't that mean that the grinder will grind 2 times more (for 2 espressos)?
That's for double basket. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorneryes but you were showing “how to make the perfect espresso”. and you said 1/2 ratio, 15gr to 30gr. this is one shot, right? did you use 2x for one shot?

Let say all the variables being consistent and equal, I want to pull a 30 sec shot, when do I start counting (timer), and since the infusion is already 8 secs mentioned in your video, do I start when the first drop of espresso touches the cup or?
Thank you
Will the machine save the setting after volumetric shot? Or do we have to press and hold every time? Thanks
It saves it. Cheers!

Nope.
Hi Tom how do i save settings after i have already set them or does it automatically save them

Hi there, it's automatic. Cheers!
Hi Tom,
Great Video, however as I am not used to these types of instructions I fear I have stuffed up.
I have tried to set up my Specialista for the first time but fear I have made a mistake and confused the machine. How can I reset the machine and start from the beginning?
Hi there! Just check 3:12 for how to reset to default settings. Cheers!
Good day Tom, all of your videos have really helpful for me and I would like to know if you can help me with one problem, I have this Specialista arte but today when I tried to use it only the hot water light works, even if you try Americano or Spresso it doesnt chage to it so I can onlye get hot water from my machine, do you know how can I fix this?
Oh dear. I think your switch is malfunctioning. Is it still under warranty? Please contact your seller or Delonghi.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks for the answer, yes the Warranty worked perfectly and they gave me a new machine.
Why is the ok button orange tho
Hi Tom, I have the same machine. The switch between espresso americano hot water is not working. Wherever I switch it, the indicator stays at espresso. Can you suggest a solution for that?
I would call Delonghi or whereever you bought it from. Seems to be an issue for some people...
Hello, what is first and second range of extra grinding exactly? And volumetric shot, I do apologize just received my machine and UGH is all I can say 😊
"Extended grinding range" is pretty useless - it just means it grinds 10 seconds longer. Cheers!
The baskets are always designed for a range, so I would say this one is good for 16-18 grams, if I remember right.
whats this extra grinding adjustment at 1:52 sec can you explain why & how to use it ?
All it does is grind for 10 more seconds. It's a useless and confusing feature.

Tom ¿Are these settings equal in La Specialista Prestigio? Thanks!
I have heard that issue before. Can you return it under warranty?
Okay bur what that really mean. This settings? Apart of time off and water hardness I don’t really know what the first 2 settings do.
Preinfusion pause is the time to wait after wetting the puck, before the machine starts building up pressure for the extraction.
I am not sure what the extra grind range does to be honest.
Merci infiniment, tu es le meilleur !
hi tom, great video - i learned so much from you. Bought the same machine a few days ago - my problem is the temperature is always going to high (at the red zone all of the time) how can i change that? Thank you!
Hi there! That is actually the pressure, not temp. Check out this video for getting to the optimal zone: th-cam.com/video/2_J3GiDttWQ/w-d-xo.html
Hi, one question. Was does extra grinding adjustment mean? What is the difference between 1. Range and 2. Range ?
Hi there! After trial and error, I found that it just adds 10 seconds to the grinding time. Cheers!
Hello I am having a problem with my machine the temperature sign won't stop flashing everytime I use the machine! Do you have any suggestions? Thanks
Contact your dealer - you might have a defective unit.
Very useful. Thank you!
Hi 😊 maybe you can help me. The coffee shot coming coming out of my machine is cold. What am I doing wrong?
My best tip is to warm up the portafilter first, by dunking it in hot water, like from a water kettle. Know what I mean? The portafilter is too cold at room temperature.
Tom - I am having difficulty with this. How do you decide the temperature ? What do you mean by ‘porter filter’ ‘tear it out’ ‘tear out your scale’ Also what is a pre-infusion pause for ? Confused of UK.
I would suggest using the hot setting. Taring out the scale just means zeroing it out. The pre-infusion pause is just waiting for the puck to absorb the first bit of water. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks Tom - I received the machine for Christmas and am looking forward trying to understand it - with your help !
Thanks for this, Tom! I have a question for you, if that’s ok. I notice you programme here the quantity of output for espresso. I noticed in other videos you press the OK button to stop it when you get the amount you want. Why is that necessary if it’s already programmed? Thanks a lot!
Well, I like to stop it right at a yield of 2:1. Sometimes the automatic volumetric dosing is a little off...
Very helpful video!
Hi again Tom, Im starting to understand things more about the la specialista arte. Its specific but I wont give up😊.
One more question please. Which option is the best with to set the pre-infusion pause time. None, one or two seconds?
I like no pause, since the pre-infusion is already soooo long.
Amazing thanks for sharing 👍💪🏻
You betcha! Thanks for watching!
Any idea on why my grinder won’t stop grinding? I just opened it all up and cleaned the burr, but doesn’t seem to stop at the time I set it to. Help pls !
While it is time based, it's not really graduated...have you tried setting the shortest time possible?
Hi Tom
Thanks for the video
just received my la specialist arte
two things
I cant make a foamy type cappucino no matter what I do it comes up as just like tea texture.
2. pressure doesn't go to the optimal zone. I tried changing grind setting to 2 from 5. still the same
I am using three bars as temperature for espresso
You just have to do it once.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thank you!
My water control stay on americano and doesn’t change to xoresso. How can Infixed?
That selector switch probably needs to be switched out. Can you return it under warranty?
hi Tom, great video!
Cheers!
Hello, what additional accessories do you recommend to buy for this machine to make better use of it...☕️👍
I would suggest an IMS basket, and a better tamper. Check the description box. 👍
Some people have had this issue too. Try to return it for a new one.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks Tom, I believe something is wrong.
My machines ok light is the only thing that works. Ive descaled etc. I cant get it set back to espresso, What are your suggestions?
I have the same problem, do you resolve it?
I have older version of eletta cappuccino top and my problem is that it doesn't make enough coffee.. on manual it says do this and that to customize how much you want and even then the cup is does not get full any solutions?
Hmm, have you descaled recently?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner
Thank you very much for your answer. Thanks !

Cheers!
Hi Tom,
I hope you’re doing fine!
I was just wondering, my arte came with 2 cups. When dialing it in are the values the same for both cups? I’m referring to the extraction amount being twice as high as the grinded coffee I put in and the extraction time being ~25 sec. ? Thank you very much!
Hi Samson, I suggest using a scale, and just dosing 7-10 grams for a single, and 14-18 grams for a double, and trying to get twice that yield. Cheers!
Hi, Would anybody know why my machine does not reach the optimum pressure when it is extracting, my grind it set to 2 at the moment

Hi Rennyl, can you grind finer? Can you use fresher coffee beans? That does make a difference. Give those two tips a try. Cheers!
Grinder set at 15 for a double shot seems a bit odd as I can fit 20 in single dose default Delonghi basket perfectly right at inner groove. 🤔
Hi! Well it depends on the fineness of your grind, and the bean density. So, you have to experiment...cheers!
My PortaFilter doesn't look like yours, it has 2 spouts.
Oh yeah, I cut the bottom off mine, to make it bottomless. Cheers!
