- Join us, Carol & Ken, on our first trip in our new Consort Nova Motorhome called Snoopy, as we continue to get used to driving and living in a larger van.
In this video, we wake up to a sunny day in our peaceful lay-by then head up the road to explore Byland Abbey.
Next is Richmond where we visit the Norman castle before heading further west towards Kendal.

When walking you should always face the oncoming traffic. So the pedestrians were correct in what they were doing and have priority under the new highway code.
Normally, yes, with line of sight, but clearly dangerous when two abrest approaching a summit. Common sense trumps the law. 🇦🇺🦘
Yes on the right side but unaware of the danger they were causing to themselves and others. Look at the space that was free on the verge. As for the highway code that is guidance and offers no protection whatsoever against injury.
No one is disputing the direction they were walking in. It’s that they were forcing traffic to veer around into oncoming traffic over a hill.
When I went to school and I’ll admit that’s a long time ago, we were taught to walk facing on coming traffic. It amazes us how many walk on the left.

Yes!!! Same thing here in US. You'll get in trouble if you walk facing traffic....isn't that DUMB!! I figure they want to "decrease the surplus population". Think how many are using cell phones while driving and you couldn't see them swerving toward with your back turned....ever so dumb.
So was I but it’s all about being aware of where the risk is coming from. A head on crash next to them would get them as well and there was room on the grass
Besides the fact that they could have walked single file and stayed closer to the edge of the road. These two were oblivious and definitely not using their common sense.
@@LifeistooshortCK Sad that we have to assume that most drivers wouldn't spot the potential issue and then, as you did, proceed with caution. And, yes, the pedestrians should have been proceeding with caution, too.
A pair of flip-flops next to the door for inside Motorhome to keep mud and dust Outside. Another pair of flip-flops for Outside and for use in grotty showers on campsites. With the new Motorhome your park-up's now i know ile will fit in as well unlike the little Red van. My Last trip was to Sicily and Pompeii.
Yes we will need to sort that. Would love to go back to Pompeii in the van.
I also do not like over-priced restaurants.

Just got to the walkers bit, here in Ireland we are always told if there is no footpath to walk on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic as you are more likely to be seen
In France it's in the "highway code", to walk facing oncoming traffic.

I think we parked in that Richmond car park last year. It had a load of motor home spaces. It was a bit of a climb, but we had the dogs to help us up the incline.

Up to your usual high standard of filming and interesting, historical information. What a fantastic country in which we live, it’s fascinating to see these old towns and monuments from our past. Personally, I don’t agree with hunting but it’s nice to see horses and dogs out for a breather. It’s lovely to hear your appreciation of food being prepared, Ken! A good bag of good books is a joy to behold. Bad jokes aside, loved your video. Take good care in these stormy times x
These horses and dogs are not out for a breather they are out to kill foxes, in fact they make sure they get a fox or two because they deliberately go out and dig the poor little buggers out of their holes and take them to a spot so that they have no escape from said fox hounds and arrogant hunters on horse back.
@emilysweet9082 I totally agree with you they are out to illegally murder foxes and really have no place on a nice channel like I thought this one was, I would rather have not seen them as it completely spoilt the video.
That was some gathering of dogs for sure. Beautiful sky after looking at that short video of the terrible wind. I would so Leary of going into some of the old castle. Would be scared that some of those ceiling might fall apart. Some beautiful scenery from the top of that castle.

Oh Ken you made us chuckle when you said “guess we won’t be able to scratch our names in” when you discovered some areas out of public circulation for viewing. Looks like Snoopy is fitting right in for you both, thanks for climbing all the stairs for the view Charlie Brown - 954 year old view!! Ken you are wise to wear a peak cap, my husband had just had several melanomas removed caused by 70 years of sun exposure! Possibly more damaging in Australia. Your usual high standards, great bit of history lots of lovely scenery on a beautiful sunny day, life is good, Happy Easter to you both.

Just had a long weekend at the abbey car park at Whitby following your vlog. Great little park up. It was the first time not on a site for us. We really enjoyed it. So close to the town. The first night somebody didn’t stop and gave us their ticket so one free night x

Agree with you Ken, it would be good to be able to see some of those buildings being built or used as they were. I'm sure with AI and some head viewer that shouldn't be impossible.
I'd like to see some of the Roman sites I've visited in such a way.
I would imagine we will be able to take virtual AI generated tours in the future.

I like the channel. I loved the Isle of Man series in the Little Red Camper. I’ve been to the Isle of Man 5 or 6 times now, mostly for the TT. So I enjoyed seeing the island from a different perspective and to see yourselves enjoy the island as well!

Love your calm demeanour and just simple day to day exploring. Here in Ireland our countryside is so similar to England but our population is much smaller, so maybe less tricky to park up.
You have plenty of beautiful park ups in Ireland and people seem much more laid back. How are your roads for Potholes. Ours are simply awful now.

the Normans were very busy in the 11th century, they built a castle in Carrickfergus and a church called St Nicholas in N.Ireland

I have a campervan just the size of yours and I keep a pair of slippers near the side door that I wear inside. Keeps the floors much cleaner. And great idea using hummus instead of mayonnaise or cream cheese with your fish. Much healthier and will help with reducing.

Quite a few I imagine 😂
They don't hunt foxes anymore they drag a scent or they have runners then they give them a good head start then the dogs track them until they catch them then they go back to the start for lunch , so you don't have to worry anymore for the foxes they are safe .
