This live recording is from Helsinki in 2005, then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tar-rya], the 1st female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile). There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). Nightwish has a complicated history and I won't get into it now, but some of the band members you saw and heard here are no longer with them, like the lead singer Tarja Turunen and the guy who played the bass and sang, Marko Hietala (they both are Finnish). Marko is actually about to release a new single for his upcoming solo album. The single is called Rebel of the North and it will be out tomorrow. Tarja has also her own solo career. She has released five rock albums, then an electronic music project called Outlanders, some classical music projects, 3 Christmas albums and in addition a bunch of live albums. Soon she will actually start a joint tour in Europe with Marko Hietala. I recommend reacting to a song from Nightwish called Slaying the dreamer, live from this same concert, End of an Era.

Nightwish was founded in Finland in 1996. Mastermind and keyboardist Tuoams Holopainen says: "We didn't invent symphonic metal, but we took it to a new level." In 2001, singer Tarja Turunen announced that she was leaving the band. She wanted to finish her classical studies in Germany in 2002/03 and then continue working in this field. The band managed to persuade her to continue working with the band afterward, but on her terms. This concert was from 2005 and immediately after this concert she was fired in the dressing room. The band accused her of turning into a diva. Welcome to Nightwish! This is a great band and has had three amazing eras with three incredible singers!! I do have a soft spot for Tarja (who is in this video). Such a beautifully dark and clear sound, it's always felt very fantasy-esque to me ❣ I wish you a lot of fun exploring, everyone finds their own path 🙏🏽 But I would warmly suggest keeping an open heart for all eras -- Tarja, Anette and Floor are all wonderful in their own way and bring their own magic :)

Sleep Token! You have good tastes. Nightwish is a fantastic band. There a version with the current singer Floor Jansen who is regarded as one of the very best voices in Metal. She does it with the original Dutch Phantom Henk Poort. Nightwish Phantom of the Opera live in Amsterdamn ft Henk Poort.
Marko was the GOAT in this song. Tarja was just being herself. Marko turns 59 this month. Marko first band called Tarot. You should watch or react to Wings of Darkness from 1986 and the reunion one.
@TheLionsReaction so as the Nightwish Army floods your comments there will be a million suggestions and everyone will give advice on which songs to try, what singer among the 3 they have had is best, ect.. Truth is the songs are all worth listening to and all of the singers have played vital roles in evolving this band. Look at Gabriel's list and pick one. Can't go wrong. My personal fave is 7 days to the Wolves from Wembley. Also love Elan live from Argentina. If you are looking for another band to try give Awakening by Unleash the Archers a try. Awesome stuff!
@TheLionsReaction The Army generally advises reactors to not do Poet and the Pendulum till they get to know the band better. IMO it is their greatest song, their Magnum Opus, but it is also a very personal song for their keyboardist and main composer, Tuomas Holopainen, and the fans. Song deals with Tuomas's deep depression after Nightwish's fans turned on him after they fired their first singer Tarya. In fact they fired her right after the concert you just watched. When you decide to react to Poet and the Pendulum I highly recommend you research the backstory so you get the full emotional impact of the song. Read the open letters from the band and from Tarja. Make sure you do the live performance from Wembley with Floor Jansen as the singer. Not sure if Gabriel's link for Poet has lyrics but they are super important to the song. Best of luck.
The original Phantom, Michael Crawford, could never convince me. Probably because he also played Frank Spencer, the dorky fellow in the comedy "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em"...
The drummer most likely had one of his migraines. And, speaking about the drummer and covers: there is a cover of the "High Hopes" by Nightwish (the "worst" review was "Halloween version", because of Marko's voice). Or move straight to the original songs, like "Planet Hell" - version of the same concert (the same singers in the same clothes), though I prefer Official live with the singer No. 2, Anette, who is the least loved of the 3 singers. And the song anyway sounds different with different female singers. There are also versions without Marko, but I do not like them.

You just stumbled onto the biggest rabbit hole in music. Nightwish is huge, outside the states... there is one live concert in particular from Wacken in 2013 where they play in front of 82000 people. Follow Gabriel's list for correct video links, there are some slowed down versions out there to avoid. there is no band that can do such a wide range in music to such spectacular levels... thrash metal, celtic, acoustic, power metal, jazz!, ballads... there is no genre they couldnt tackle and release the best song if they wanted to. This is with the original female singer Tarja Turanun, but since 2013 Nightwish have had Floor Jansen and... well, you will know what you found when you hear the opening to Ghost Love Score. Which is the most reacted to song on youtube bar none, by the way. Enjoy this journey, you have heard nothing yet.

Sleep Token! You have good tastes. Nightwish is a fantastic band. There a version with the current singer Floor Jansen who is regarded as one of the very best voices in Metal. She does it with the original Dutch Phantom Henk Poort. Nightwish Phantom of the Opera live in Amsterdamn ft Henk Poort.

Marko was the GOAT in this song. Tarja was just being herself. Marko turns 59 this month. Marko first band called Tarot. You should watch or react to Wings of Darkness from 1986 and the reunion one.

@TheLionsReaction so as the Nightwish Army floods your comments there will be a million suggestions and everyone will give advice on which songs to try, what singer among the 3 they have had is best, ect.. Truth is the songs are all worth listening to and all of the singers have played vital roles in evolving this band. Look at Gabriel's list and pick one. Can't go wrong. My personal fave is 7 days to the Wolves from Wembley. Also love Elan live from Argentina. If you are looking for another band to try give Awakening by Unleash the Archers a try. Awesome stuff!

@TheLionsReaction The Army generally advises reactors to not do Poet and the Pendulum till they get to know the band better. IMO it is their greatest song, their Magnum Opus, but it is also a very personal song for their keyboardist and main composer, Tuomas Holopainen, and the fans. Song deals with Tuomas's deep depression after Nightwish's fans turned on him after they fired their first singer Tarya. In fact they fired her right after the concert you just watched. When you decide to react to Poet and the Pendulum I highly recommend you research the backstory so you get the full emotional impact of the song. Read the open letters from the band and from Tarja. Make sure you do the live performance from Wembley with Floor Jansen as the singer. Not sure if Gabriel's link for Poet has lyrics but they are super important to the song. Best of luck.

The drummer most likely had one of his migraines. And, speaking about the drummer and covers: there is a cover of the "High Hopes" by Nightwish (the "worst" review was "Halloween version", because of Marko's voice). Or move straight to the original songs, like "Planet Hell" - version of the same concert (the same singers in the same clothes), though I prefer Official live with the singer No. 2, Anette, who is the least loved of the 3 singers. And the song anyway sounds different with different female singers. There are also versions without Marko, but I do not like them.

You just stumbled onto the biggest rabbit hole in music. Nightwish is huge, outside the states... there is one live concert in particular from Wacken in 2013 where they play in front of 82000 people. Follow Gabriel's list for correct video links, there are some slowed down versions out there to avoid. there is no band that can do such a wide range in music to such spectacular levels... thrash metal, celtic, acoustic, power metal, jazz!, ballads... there is no genre they couldnt tackle and release the best song if they wanted to. This is with the original female singer Tarja Turanun, but since 2013 Nightwish have had Floor Jansen and... well, you will know what you found when you hear the opening to Ghost Love Score. Which is the most reacted to song on youtube bar none, by the way. Enjoy this journey, you have heard nothing yet.
