Jules, there's an instrumental version of this song on their Spotify. Give it a listen, it's worth it 😊 I'm enjoying your reactions! Rock on, Po! 🖤🕊️🤘😎
I've spent the last 2 1/2 years trying to figure out why this band is so satisfying. One reason; you can listen to any song over and over and over again and never get tired of it. Every time you listen you'll hear something you've never noticed before; maybe a decoration in Akane's drum pattern, or MISA making a run up the fretboard, or Miku doing something with her backing chords or vocals, or Kanami doing some intricate pattern, or Saiki playing with the vocals ... it's uncanny. Fans sometimes complain when Kanami is low in the mix but when she's doing those little complicated riffs, as you pointed out, she doesn't expect the spotlight to be on her ... it should be on Saiki. I think she treats it like wallpaper; something for atmosphere in the room. Like, you are not supposed to be looking at the >wall
It occurs to me that probably the biggest benefit of the self-cover videos on Band-Maid Prime, even more than helping to learn parts oneself, is that when you can _see_ a player, you can better focus your hearing on them. And it's really hard, even listening to just the audio on headphones, to maintain focus on what just one Maid is doing because somebody else is doing something distractingly cool every five seconds. So having just one member on screen really helps to listen to an instrument all the way through a song.
You're right bro. Especially in "YOLO", MISA, A-chan, and Mincho do so many things that they don't NEED to do but add so much to the song. I also find Saiki to be smoldering in this one. My favorite BM song.
"I just wanna go through as much BAND-MAID as possible if that's ok with you." 0:06 I mean, yes, please. I don't think anyone here is gonna be mad about that. 😁
One of my top 10 Band-Maid song (but this top 10 changes on a daily basis!) Akane's drum work in this number is (as usual) outstanding! Those dual vocals and harmonies by Miku and Saiki are top notch. Guitar solo is amazing...And of course MISA MISA MISA, Nice review and comments on your part. Glad to see you enjoying the music too! Peace and Respect from Canada
One of the things that makes Band-Maid great is that they do everything it takes to make a great rock song, and then they do more. And then they do more and do it differently in every song. One hundred + songs, plus live versions, plus acoustic versions, plus instrumental versions. You will be at this for a while... and love every second of it.
Ah, the tiny hat era, I love it. Also, they've been together in the same configuration long enough to actually have eras. Not many bands can say that these days. I suggest the MV for Warning. It's an action packed video, some of their best work. I'm really enjoying your reactions, a good balance between analysis and amazement.
Hey Jules, enjoyed the reaction again. One thing Band Maid does is change up things in the second verse, it almost never sounds the same as the first verse. Have a good one, will try to drop in and chat on Friday again.
Great stuff, as always! The B-sides of the YOLO single (matchless GUM and Unfair game) are some of their best songs. Also included is an instrumental version of this, which is very cool (it's all on Spotify 😉).
FYI, Kanamincho, in a recent fan newsletter, alluded to new music coming soon, Po! I think we got a taste of 2 songs during Cluppo-sama Apr. 1, 2022 reaction to Band Maid stuff.
YOLO is one of my favorite songs. SAIKI really shines here, but the instrumental is amazing too. So good that they included an instrumental version of YOLO (same recording minus vocals) on the CD. You can stream it.
This way of songwriting based on two musical constructions (bass and guitar) that are parallel and at the same time complementary is absolutely new and refreshing.
@@JulesTheHuman TBH don't get your hopes up too high on yolosiosu. It's the only track off the Maiko EP that is worse than the original and also doesn't really add anything to it either IMHO. I think YOLO is easily a top 20 track but unlike the other Maiko covers it doesn't warrant being there IMHO. It would have been much better to do Moratorium or Puzzle with some Japanese 3-string instead. That said you should do Secret My Lips and Secret Maiko Lips 2fer. That original and the Maiko version are a great example of two songs that are still the same song but rightfully both belong on a playlist because you get something different out of each.
Yolo is definitely a top 10 or top 20 song and yet only the 4th or 5th best song on the album. It is so damn good. Early 00's rock riff and nostalgia vibe, drums and bass ramps the energy up and down higher than the early 00's ever reached, catchy vocals, then a killer solo and somehow the highlight is the second half of the bridge? Insanity. How many bands have a great song where the best part of the song is the bridge? They have a knack for making bridges that are so good they would be the best song for any other band.
I saw a react to YOLO live . It was probably on Band Maid Prime channel. Kanami's solo was awesome. I only saw it once but think about it all the time. There is a lot of songs not on the TH-cam channel that will surprise you. A comparison of Puzzle live and the acoustic version of Puzzle is always a hit.
JTH hello , Appreciate the clear concise reviews you are doing . You are among a very few very talented people that do what you do on TH-cam . Always fun watching you break these down .
Jules, Good comment about Kanami and more frets. These young women ARE professional musicians! Heart, brain, soul. I feel Akane and Misa with their polyrhythmic rifts appeal to the heart. Misa's rifts dance all over your heart. Kanami with her many rifts keeps stimulating your brain, and Saiki and Miku nourish your soul with their vocals.
Wow, that is probably one of the best description of each member! They are a remarkable group of musicians/ladies. And in watching various music video reactors from literally all over the world they bring a smile to everyone who listens.
Excellent reaction yet again. Currently one of my top reactors. As a one off type of song try Awkward- there has been a live video, not sure if it still available.
I really like that you are now going chronologically through their MVs...they started strong and got stronger and it's fun to see "Baby Band-Maid" era at this point, six whole years ago (a long time if all your band mates just entered their 30s).
@@JulesTheHuman The pipes and conduits are part of a contrasting industrial theme that Band-Maid sometimes uses. G'day Jules. Agree on the slower cuts.. I like seeing them do their stuff! And Saiki really is exploring the lead vocal space. This one before my time so can't comment on the set, other than the open circle still lets us focus on the Maids while looking cool! Quite a few of the early MVs focus on players but in wide open settings. Try "Non-fiction days"... it's even a tiny bit longer than usual.
