These three, sensitive souls all, must have tuned into that force that intended them here for the rest of us to be uplifted. A lifetime of absorbing the greats and their energy, is distilled in these magic moments. I could listen forever!
fantastic three fabulous players.gene king of piano blues and rayTHEbass brown r.i.p.both.they oozed class joy and happiness throughout there careers.i miss them.playin alongside them a great jazz drummer jeff hamilton still goin strong.many thanks to palanzana and utube.
Ray Brown is my kind of bass player. He is so solid and doesn't play so many notes that you lose the line and the rhythm. I really love this. The bass is not a guitar transposed down an octave. Listening to this, I am willing to bet that one of today's best bass players, Christian McBride, owes a lot to Ray!! I can't listen to this enough. He makes the bass sing, and you can see that he is actually singing under his breath. A lot for me to learn here.
that is so true. incredible and i can 100% hear where McBride got his sound. Digging into the string so hard for that no amp sound and still have ridiculous chops. I personally take after that a lot i must say after listening to strictly McBride only for a few weeks in a month since so long ago
They've even recorded together! Brown is in the left, Mcbride center, Milt Hinton Right. IMO 85 year old Hinton steals the show, he sounds STOUT! th-cam.com/video/8RHBbhdI9p8/w-d-xo.html
You HAVE to mention Gene Harris. WOW, he does a GREAT gospel "Lady Be Good". Of course, Ray Brown is INCREDIBLE but Gene Harris fits in very very well!
A part of great musicianship is knowing when to take your turn and when to let the other members of the group shine. When to shine, when to share and when to get out of the way. These guys nailed it!
Yeah Ray Brown!! He says more with one note than anyone!! Yet he was also a virtuoso!! He had it all! Tone, time, feel and a melodic genius approach to soloing!! Ray Brown was the best!!
What's not to say. ! Worlds best together ! . I played in the same Festival in Germany, with Ray Brown, many years ago , with Kenny Ball. I shook his hand. It has not got, and will never be any better ! . Marvellous! .
I’m just smiling. WOW!!! Tremendous performance by all on so many levels. Just this 10 minutes could be studied and discussed for years. Amazing video of a young Jeff Hamilton doing one of the many things he has perfected: The smooth, seamless transition between brushes and sticks.
my jazz instructor recommended him to me and i thought he wasn't going to be good and so i looked him up on youtube this was the first song that showed up. so i listened to it and i LOVED it. He has inspired me so much.
This really is fantastic, full of soul :D But since i heard "Now he sings, now he sobs" by chick corea, there is no trio I enyoj more :D But this really is fantastic!
whatever the specialists says: ray brown is the best afro american double bass player. everytime is the same pleasure. try to get "let there be love" 1990 blue note concert...O-MY-GOD :)...Sorry i m late "divorcestand" said it 6 months ago.
There is no other bass player other than Ray Brown who can make his instrument sing.
Ray Brown can groove by just playing a single note.
Indeed!
So happy to have known Ray Brown. It's all been said before.... a phenomenon !!! X
Yes sirr!!
THE SPACE BETWEEN THE NOTES!!!!!!!!!!
I pray to Ray every night - he made my life.
Pray to Jesus
Who did he pray to?

McBride studied with Ray extensively....
Yes when I asked Mcbride about Ray Brown he just said a few words - He is my Heroe
@@drumma_satch So did Ben Wolfe who played with Harry Connick Jr, I don't know how long he was a student of Ray Brown?

Pleasure is something we allow ourselves to have. At this moment. I am pleased. Thanks Ray.
The man who taught all bass players before there were bass players.

Need to lay down after that.
Great, but James Morrison kept an unusually low profile here.
No offense to Mr Brown but I'm going to be calling this the Gene Harris Trio from now on...
