Love the historical content!!! Sweden's army was truly impressive during this timeframe. Just the fact that they attacked at Poltava (which was foolish btw) shows the utter belive they had in their superiorety. And sweden won several very impressive battles during this time. The Gå-på tactics was often devestating to the enemy. But Charles XII was one stubborn bastard that did not accept defeat, to the ruin of his country. And you also see Russia learning from the swedes, as Russia's army after this war really became dangerous. The Russians were the thoughest soldiers that Frederick the great faced. Their morale was high and they became proficient in close combat. Alexander Suvorov would mould the army into Perhaps Europe's finest at it's time, (we're talking after the seven years war, where Prussia lost a lot of their quality troops, and specially after Frederick was dead, the Prussian army was not the same it had been at the start of the Seven years war) and i would argue that period was the strongest quality wise that the russians ever were. Suvorov clearly took inspiration from the swedes, and he utilised shock tactics to great effect. Speed timeing and action was he's character. For tactics, the Russians would charge in with bayonets, stab the first guy and shoot the man behind him and then stab the third. Alexander Suvorov was Russia's greatest general, who never lost a battle, and Russia beat everyone up unthil the Napoleonic war, Suvorov was involved in the French Revolutionary war. Driving the French out of italy, and fighting a withdrawal through the alps, against 4 times his numbers, with minimal casulties. Alexander Suvorov died in 1800, and was not liked by the Russian Tsar Paul. Who abandon the military doctines of Suvorov, the Russians were so Humiliated when facing Napoleon that the military doctrines of Suvorov was brought back into the russian army, and a Mikhail Kutuzov who had apprenticed under Suvorov would lead the Russian forces against Napoleon. I highly recomend reading: The art of victory, by Philip Longworth. The Life and Achivements of Generalissimo Suvorov.
Not completely unrealistic, because that's what happened IRL, Augustus was smacked across the face multiple times, Swedes kept destroying all armies he continued to raise, and then rebellions started popping all over the place in PLC with a new candidate who was backed by Sweden.
For the next you may do Sardinia-Piedmont in the 1792 start, Piedmont and Savoy are totally occupied by France and you are left only with Sardinia, isolated by the outnumbering french navy
both denmark and sweden are war mongers against eachother, even the most between 2 nations, almost double of the wars between the "rivals" of UK and france (16 wars vs 30)
I like your series of historical lost causes very much, so I'd like to throw in a couple of ideas. - League of Cambray bookmark as Venice. - Dutch in the 80 Years War (if you want to make it a bit harder, go for 1 August 1604). - Winter King of Palatinate, 27 August 1619.
I’m really loving these! EU4 does a shit job of making me care for later start dates but I love learning about the history and love watching your vids so these are perfect!
Absolutely love ❤ this new savings you're doing. As a history lover I loved how you saved Poland 🇵🇱 but as a Swede 🇸🇪 I even more love how you saved Sweden
I think that paradox should add achievements to this later start dates, like the US one, like as Sweden get russia to renounce it's claims in your country or as prussia do the same for the Austrian claims/cores in Silesia, and I'm sure there are a lot mor possibilities hidden in there
I really enjoy your series saving historical nations from disasters. Please continue. Maybe you can also do more of this with mods. E.g. save the Roman Empire and do a roman World Conquest in the early middle age.
As I know Ottomans joined this war and fight against Russia. Ottomans won the first battle and they could stackwipe nearly hall of of Russian army. But Ottomans prefered peace out. And got some provinces such as Azov fort which has big important for Black Sea. It's all I know maybe I can be wrong :)
Indeed, the Grand-Vizier Mehmed Pascha had the Russians and Peter cornered near the river Pruth. Instead of finishing them off, he came to a peace agreement with Peter the Great. He got a lot of ducats and Azow. Basically throwing away the best chance the ottomans had to weaken their biggest rival permanently. Mehmed Pascha got his deserved punishment later on.
Daem it! He beated the disaster way early! Search the history books bois, we need to give this man a challenge! What about Napoleon's final coalition war before he abdicates? (his second abdication).
Sweden almost won this war even though Sweden was heavly out numbered. At narva 1700 Charles XII (Karl XII) won over russia with about 10,537 troops against 37,000 russians. Russia lost 9k soilders while 20k russians capitulated. Charles and the Swedish force had take care of 2 times as many captives as the Swedish force at narva.
Amazing video. Another idea involving Sweden would be to Defend Sweden in the finnish war, the war when Sweden lost Finland to Russia. I think this will be ridiculously hard as Sweden is weaker, Russia is stronger, you got no ottomans at war with russia and no Karl XII. But maybe you can do it
They need to buff this tax modifier goverment Reform. The only reason i could See its use is to take it early game and switching it out for mannpower after 1600 But youre still wasting reform progress then
so what your saying is if Carolus Rex knocked out Russia then Saxony/PLC then Denmark instead of Denmark then Saxony/PLC then Russia (failed) like he did in real life than the Swedish Empire might still be a thing today?
Next one should be Venice against the League of Cambrai. IRL everyone dipped and joined Venice against France, i doubt that would happen in the EU4 scenario
Tips for playing as Sweden: Make your possessions in the Eastern European subcontinent trade companies, Danzig and Riga together would be like 20-30% of the trade power in the Baltic Sea node. And Nöteborg/St Petersburg is easily the best province trade wise in the Novgorod Node.
Karl XII one of the most badasses leaders in human history. As he got to the throne he got declared by Russia and poland, 2 of the biggwst powers and denmark. He beat their ass and wiped out the poles to then fail in russia at poltava. Then after exiling to the ottoman empire he acted like a german prince to move by horse through the entire continent. Je got back in sweden and raised yet another army and got declared by GB andBrandeburg as well to then die while sieging a fortress in norway. The song by sabaton "carolus rex" is so nice
