You can lube up the new ones with a dab of ceramic grease. The threads and the part sitting inside till the heating element itself. It will help a lot removing them in the future. And one more important thing is they will unscrew easier when engine hot, but also they will screw in easier. In other words, if the engine is still hot and you torque them to 10Nm, when it will be cold you would have to use more than 10Nm to break them loose. So it's easier to remove them with hot engine, but when you put the new ones in you better wait till the engine gets cold and then torque them to spec.

Also I discover that in the area where glow plugs are located is visible coolant - do not have an idea what can cause a leak - there is no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the engine oil - please help

Ah if you go online like gsf car part for example you should be able to put your reg in and it should say what you need failing that call Vauxhall and give them your vin and ask what glow plugs it needs
Thank you. Just do the normal checks that you would buying any car, depending on the milage. Check when cam belt was done. Also they can have an oil pressure problem due to a seal giving in so just mention it. There good cars for the money very comfortable and they pull well. Just make sure it's been looked after, check the history well.
I did them on my vectra, snapped one after about 10 minutes of turning and trying to pry up whilst turning and the tip snapped (never came out after 12 months of use) and the other 3 I got them so the thread was out of the hole then squirted wd40 down there, tightened them back up and 2 days later, once cracked, they came out by hand
Test them using jump leads and a screwdriver. Attach one end of the leads to the battery positive.. and one end to a screwdriver. Then ping the tip of the plug. If it sparks its a good plug.
@@juliandavies1974 I didn't get trade I brought Bosch ones from eBay and I think they were more than £10 each Cost me just over £50 if I remember right O I am a normal person by the way

That's no problem I hope I helped you can also give you number plate to a part ordering company like euro car parts they should know what is listed and you can get prices at the same time
Other channels recommend to cleanup the socket with delicate brush (not to make dammage to aluminium pommel) to remove soot and then use ceramic grease for better/safer protection from shearing - this also depends on service routines for each of the manufacturers - but this needs sterile conditions as you are working above the piston
You can do this and it's good practice but if you get any chunks in the hole or in the cylinder you can potentially have big problems Mine wasn't bad at all And the factory don't put ceramic grease on Other issue is if you grease it it can mess up torque settings
Hi I've an 2009 opel insignia 2.0 diesel service vehicle soon light on and not starting.. could it be because of glow plugs..? And 2. Question is if glow plugs is not work can the vehicle start? Thank you

Also I discover that in the area where glow plugs are located is visible coolant - do not have an idea what can cause a leak - there is no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the engine oil - please help
If there very stuck and you have coolant around there it may be a good idea to go to a garage to be honest
If there very stuck I normally give it a good spray with wd40 or penetrating spray and use the car for a day i.e going to work etc get it hot and keep repeating till they come loose you do not want to snap them
The coolant I'm not sure about without seeing it but I would point at the head gasket first but it may not be that but very hard to say over messages
My advice is take it to a garage really
@@Thediycarchannel Thanks I will but do not understand why the caps on the glow plugs are so stuck - looking on your video this shouldn't be so hard - any way thanks best regards
They are very tight to pull off
I am sorry I got mixed up I thought you meant the glow plugs
The caps on top are tight to get off give it a good pull but do not pull on the wires
And your no trouble at all by the way this is why I'm here you can ask as much as you like
@@Thediycarchannel Thanks very much
No worries John let me know how you get on
can a bad plug can cause a bad start also at warm start ? sometime is quiet nice and sometimes pretty irritative at 80-90 degree engine temp
Bad plug cold start yes
Warm start can be all sorts best ask a garage to have a look
i might sound like a newby, but im doin the wb-40 spraying, just cant workout the collect plugs ? insignia 2013 2.0 CDti
Not sure what you mean pat sorry
@@Thediycarchannel i havent worked out which glow plugs i need, the expensive or the cheaper ones insignia 2013 CDTI
Ah if you go online like gsf car part for example you should be able to put your reg in and it should say what you need failing that call Vauxhall and give them your vin and ask what glow plugs it needs
I need to replace the glow plug for cylinder 2. Are the cylinders ordered 1234 from left to right?
Yes there are
Is there a way to check if my car is a 2 on 2 or all 4 glow plugs with the pressure sensor?
The glow plugs with sensors have a box on them
@@Thediycarchannel what kind of box is it? Is it directly on the glow plug?
I think it's on top a little black plastic box but I personally haven't seen any
The ones without are just a normal glow plug
@@Thediycarchannel ok thank you I'll have a look!
No worries
Is this a very common fault on the insignia mine has just come up with it
I wouldn't say it's a common fault it's just wear a tare really
Very informative clip!
I’m going to buy a insignia 2.0 CDTI 16v sri. What should I check before buying it?!
Thank you. Just do the normal checks that you would buying any car, depending on the milage. Check when cam belt was done. Also they can have an oil pressure problem due to a seal giving in so just mention it. There good cars for the money very comfortable and they pull well. Just make sure it's been looked after, check the history well.
Thank you!
No worries let me know if you buy it.
Hi is doing the clutch master cylinder easy to do on the insignia... I know its done from inside
I have no idea I have never done one sorry I can't help
what sort of socket do you use for the glow plug, cheers
Used a long socket
@@Thediycarchannel What size in mm is the socket? I know it needs to be a deep socket.
10mm mine where
I did them on my vectra, snapped one after about 10 minutes of turning and trying to pry up whilst turning and the tip snapped (never came out after 12 months of use) and the other 3 I got them so the thread was out of the hole then squirted wd40 down there, tightened them back up and 2 days later, once cracked, they came out by hand
That's not good at all Bennie
Test them using jump leads and a screwdriver. Attach one end of the leads to the battery positive.. and one end to a screwdriver. Then ping the tip of the plug. If it sparks its a good plug.
For the cost of them I just put new ones in
@@Thediycarchannel if you get them trade price yes. But us normal people have to pay up to 10pound a plug
@@juliandavies1974 I didn't get trade I brought Bosch ones from eBay and I think they were more than £10 each
Cost me just over £50 if I remember right
O I am a normal person by the way
@@Thediycarchannel but my orginal point is you dont neext special equipment (as you said you do) to test glow plugs...
You should be going back in with them when they squeak and spraying wd40 on the threads. That squeak is it getting too tight and could easily snap
Hi
How did you know whether they were standard or pressure sensor type?
Or it doesn't really matter what type you fit?
Thank you
Yes it does you need to refit what you have
The normal glow plugs are like the one I use in the video
The pressure sensor type have a box on them sort off if you Google search you will see what I mean
Just check yours before ordering pull engine cover off and have a look
@@Thediycarchannel thank you very much mate. Appreciate it.
That's no problem I hope I helped you can also give you number plate to a part ordering company like euro car parts they should know what is listed and you can get prices at the same time
Great video. what Size of socket are you using 🤔
Thank u DC everything should. Be in discription
Do you recommend putting ceramic grease as anti-seize?
Never used it so can't recommend it sorry
Other channels recommend to cleanup the socket with delicate brush (not to make dammage to aluminium pommel) to remove soot and then use ceramic grease for better/safer protection from shearing - this also depends on service routines for each of the manufacturers - but this needs sterile conditions as you are working above the piston
You can do this and it's good practice but if you get any chunks in the hole or in the cylinder you can potentially have big problems
Mine wasn't bad at all
And the factory don't put ceramic grease on
Other issue is if you grease it it can mess up torque settings
Hi I've an 2009 opel insignia 2.0 diesel service vehicle soon light on and not starting.. could it be because of glow plugs..? And 2. Question is if glow plugs is not work can the vehicle start? Thank you
It should start depending how cold it it is but would chuck loads of smoke out the glow plugs only heat the diesel so should start or should attempt to start but be rough and lots of smoke from in burnt fuel
@@Thediycarchannel but it just attemp to start but sometimes it's starts but stop again immediately.. and it's not power on gaspedal... it's seems like the engine not get fire... what can it be?
If there is a fault on the dash it's best to get it plugged in it could be a big list
It could be the MAF sensor
Crank sensors
Injectors
Lamda sensors
Fuel system blocked etc
Water in fuel filter
Really it could be anything if there is a light on the dash that's good because it's picked up a fault get it plugged in and go from there
@@Thediycarchannel there is nothing on dash only service vehicle soon on dash. It was cople weeks ago it's come and after that the car not start.. I use diagnostic but there no fault to show.. I surrender that is maybe something on fuelsystem but I'm not sure..
It will be a process of elimination
I would replace the fuel filter first and go from there
But it could be all sorts
There is a video on the channel doing a full service in that video it shows how to change the fuel filter
Really enjoyed your vid, very well explained. If I can ask your opinion. I have a pug 407 Sw 2.0 diesel. I am looking for a insignia 2012 to 2014 2.0 diesel SRI model, I know they upgraded after 2013 but do you think it's that much better than pre 2013 cars. Many thanks. Kim.
Thank you
Not sure on the newer insignia I did look at a 2014 one but the interior seemed more tatty like cheap plastic to me
So ended up buying my first BMW 4 series
God's honest truth I have had more issues with the BMW than I ever did with the 2011 insignia
Insignia and the insignia was half the price
@@Thediycarchannel Thanks for reply, I just heard that the engine was a little more quite, not as loud as the older model. If I can trouble you one last time, what year is your one and do you think the engine is overly loud when driving. Cheers. Kim.
I had the 2011 model would say it wasn't overly loud just your normal diesel sounding engine it was smooth and comfortable to drive
Hey! What instruments do you use?
Not sure what you mean maks sorry
Good video, best to sell it now before something else inevitably goes.
Nice car to drive and good value for money in second hand market but it has several issues that can cost heavy money.
Hi I'm thinking of buying a Vauxhall insignia what major issues sign should I look out for? Cheers.
Did you reply it popped up in my inbox but not on the feed?
I don't think I did or was you asking crimhthan
Hard with issues didn't have any with mine but know of one's with dual mass faults , turbo faults , rear springs breaking that's all I know of really
@@Thediycarchannel To be honest every car does have it's own issues. I had 2 mondeos before and on both the injectors broke and had issues with the break, rear bearings and so on but it doesn't mean that if you buy one you will get them issues. It's all about how the car has been serviced and maintained I would say. Now I have an insignia estate and I only have to change one glow plug but I'm really happy with it so far. Nice video, thank you!
@@georgelupas yes you are right thank you for the positive comment

That's no problem thank you for you comment really means a lot you are all great and make it worth the time making the videos
My Pleasure.
Please, could u write down the sizes of tools and what kind of tools did u use?
Cheers
Used a long 10mm socket short extension bar and the rachet
Lots of penetrating spray
And got the engine hot
You must to clean glow plug hole before instal it, otherwise you will have leaks there...
It would be good practice but trust me you can't get to them mine was all good after no issues and I didn't clean the holes
So once you have replaced the plugs you need to get the code cleared,it doesn't just clear itself??
It didn't on mine think there is a link in the discription to a OBD2 scanner there only cheap
Would be cheaper to buy one then to go garage to clear it
@@Thediycarchannel ,so I done No1 glow plug on my zafita tourer today as a guy in work said that's what his super dooper code reader said that's what it was saying but the message was still there and I thought I would need a "proper" code reader to clear it but I was on another video and the guy cleared the message with a wee cheap Chinese reader not unlike the one I have so I dug mine out and the jobs done, cheers for the reply 👍I thought once the fault was fixed the error message would clear but obviously not!

Did the glow plugs have pressure sensors and if not does it matter?
Very important question. I comunicated with Opel servis before some days. They told me that for my type of engine (Insignia 2.0 CDTI, A20DTH, 118kW) is possible to use 2 glow plugs with preasure sensor and 2 glow plugs with no sensor. I checked visualy actual status but I have all glow plugs witch preasure sensor. Than i dont understad of Opel servis solution (there is big diference between price - no preasure sensor price is around 30 eur and with sensor 5x more).
mine didn't have pressure sensors but if you have pressure sensors you will need to replace them with pressure sensor glow plugs more expensive but its the way it is
@@DusanZke weird why opel would say that but if it was me I'd replace them with what was there so if u have pressure sensor just bite the bullet and get the glow plugs with pressure sensor no chance of things messing up then
Why engine hot for glowplugs but cold for sparkplugs????
I do both the same
Do you have a link for the purchase ? Also do they have the pressure sensor on them ?
No these don't have the pressure sensors but you are best checking to see if yours needs them
I will find a link for you in the next hour just having my tea 😉

Hi mate, great video. Do you think glow plugs will have anything to do with my insignia shaking when accelerating?
Thank you appreciate it
No it won't be that glow plugs only heat diesel to start the car that's there job done then
Faulty glow plugs would cause it to turn over more before starting on cold mornings and it would chuck a bit of smoke
Do you have any lights on ?
Engine management lights ?
Thankyou. No lights on
Really hard to say what it could be a very long list of things
I know, thats the problem, it hasnt done a regen in months for some reason, could that be anything to do with it and can i force it to do one?
Could be possibly or egr starting to play up
A garage can do a forced regen

No worries Alfie thanks for your comment
Thanks very much for the video - I have just got this problem - I think I will try myself to deal with this but need to get keys first and use penetration oil as you suggest - best regards - according to euro car parts I am lucky and have glow plugs without pressure measure ;)
That's no probs at all I hope it helps you out spray them well if they don't come out with a tiny bit of force stop and spray again and go for a drive and repeat till they do come out it don't take much to snap them so be very careful

what wad the error codes mate ?
Really sorry I can't remember
Normally it will bring up "Service" indicator on the dash. If you try and clear this and it won't go away that can mean that your glow plugs need to be replaced. Afterwards it should go away once cleared again.
What socket size?
It should be in the video. I can't remember now it's been a very long time ago

Yes it is 😂😂😂
But all went ok thank god
When it tightens run it back a turn...
I would stick to the recommended torque settings with glow plugs just incase
Why would you risk loosing compression binding it back a turn? Copper grease the threads if anything.
Possibly best to stick to torque settings
