Yes! It’s a learning process for sure. However, checking sell through rate is so important! But I was guilty of buying stuff when I first started selling, just bc it was cute, lol. Now, I make crazy ROI!
My sales have been the best last couple weeks than they have all year! I'm having daily sales! I work full time at my day job and just list a little on the weekends.
New subscriber here!! Love the content you put out!! I have a couple of questions first how do you determine what items you have free shipping on? I’ve noticed that you do as some you do not And could could you would you do a shipping video??? Keep up the great work!! Thanks so much
So that is based completely on recent comps. If it's items that are selling only as free shipping I have to match that. If it's more of a rare item you can get away with charging shipping. As well as other items that charge shipping you can charge shipping. So it's really just based on the market.
That's something I have been wondering about is shipping larger items like backpacks or large purses. Thank you for answering that question. My biggest thing is just starting with what I have right now to clear out my storage. Stuff we have had forever and shipping larger stuff has seemed daunting due to shipping. At least from NC. 😅
This past Friday I found a small cordless vacuum at the bins… inside the box was a caulking gun and a caulking tube! I found a second vacuum that same day…a small one perfect for the car. Didn’t think of having it opened as it was sealed/shrink wrapped. It’s the first time I have not had a box opened. Maybe next time I will.
Great sales Jennifer! I have had every offer I have accepted that they backed out come from 0 feedback buyers, because, 'they found it cheaper". Had to wait the 4 days I think because they were outside the US, relist, and lost all my watchers and views. I will keep it open to no restrictions on feedback, but if it happens again, I will restrict 0 feedback buyers. Also my only negative feedback came from a 0 feedback buyer😔
I am blessed to have this source but I always tell myself it won't last forever. So I make sure to still stay fresh in the live market of garage and estate sales. You can see about 50% of my sales are bin finds and the rest are other avenues of sourcing. All about diversifying 😀
@@desertsellers how long did it take you to build up your inventory to level you’re at now? I’m trying to stay profitable. I try to invest a portion of my monthly profits into my sourcing and supplies.
Jennifer I sold a rare antique saxophone on Ebay to a man in Italy- in 1999! I started getting into reselling again between jobs last year. I have arthritis and I don't want to be doing this physically demanding job I have into my 50's. My main worry about Ebay is that you can have your entire business obliterated by them if you do something wrong. Do you sell other places? Also. My concern with yard sales is bed bugs. We suffered through them years ago and don't even know how they got in my house. Is this something you have had to deal with and what precautions do you take? Their eggs can be almost impossible to detect.
Great question. I've only been in there maybe two times? It's not my jam. I know there could be some good stuff in there but it takes a lot of digging to find the treasures.
There is no way to say but the 50% is 90 days. So statistically it would be within 180 days to be 100% sell through but that's not an exact science. Number available and changes to trend or style can affect that. Seasonal items too. But generally speaking a 50% STR would take 6 months. But if you price it right it could sell a lot faster!!!
I cut open even if it has tabs also if I don't know where the product came from. I've seen Pokemon cards foil pack cut open and resealed and you could not even see the cut. They do this a lot to Amazon according to an article I read and warned no to buy them it they were a return. I've been ripped off twice myself and received a pair of used windshield wipers at Walmart and a can of water from Lowes instead of expensive fence stain.
Very interesting video, I like your style. One thing I do not understand is that you keep saying look up the comps and the sell through rate. Where do you go to look up comp. And what is a sell through rate? Keep up the good work.
Comps is the short term for looking the item up. Seeing comparables. You filter to sold and see how much that item sold. Inside the eBay app/website. The STR is the amount sold divided by amount available. Goal is 50% plus! Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Just found your content and enjoying! Clearly you focus on hardgoods? I'm starting, but doing well (I think) have 100% sell through in my first 6 weeks! But I have a mixed store, clothes/hardgoods. You find you don't 'enjoy' clothes or how did you decide on how to refine your store? Thanks for all you share! I liked and subscribed. :)
Welcome! So yes hard goods are my fav. You nailed, it I just find zero joy in clothing. I love shopping for myself but resell not so much. Too many questions, returns, measurements, etc. I'll save those for someone else 😜
I don't know how much you pay for your big poly bags but Here's a thought for you big items if you get a box of the contractor bags they're very heavy trash bag type things that are dark they work Wonderful also and they're big you can put items in there and won't have to use two of your poly mailer bags
Its amazing but true, there is nobody in Las Vegas that brings Amazon Pallets to a location here and there must be a reason why. If so, we would be able to do as well as you although i think your returns is quite large which you dont speak of much. I mean the reason why those people returned an item to Amazon must be cause of issues with the items why else would they be returning so many.
Honestly I don't get any more returns on these items than I do on my garage sale estate sale items. Honestly it's the small and items that get more returns than anything. $30 and under. The trick is to always test them before you buy it or at least inspect it and test it when you get home.
@desertsellers You are who you hang with/watch, so I'll be moving along. Changing the title does not change the events. The pendulum is swinging back and quickly. Take good care. 🙏🇺🇲🙏
Correction Ebay does not pay for any of your ads to appear on Google or anywhere else. This is now your responsibility if you want to appear on google you need to pay up. This changed like a year ago now.
Maybe it's just Google images doing its job? Either way, when you Google a product, it will show an eBay listing in Google 😎 So when someone is looking for your item, your listing will show up 🔥
This is not 100% true. I got an Ebay ad on Insta one day & believe it or not, it was for my own listing. I didn't pay for that to happen. Had to be targeted since I was researching the item before I listed it.

As a seller, i see that pricing is a big factor on slow sales as well .
Absolutely!
@desertsellers so would you say is it truly better to do the buy it now, or the bidding?
Buy it now 100%!! Only auction if you have a super rare and saught after item. I have actually lost money on auctions.
@@desertsellers yeah the last time I did it during college, it didn't go well.🫤

Yes definitely check the box. It's worth the value loss to break the seal for the peace of mind.

I totally agree!
Dog collar. 125 bucks, I don’t care what it does, lol. One suggestion, could you hold the items closer to the camera, thanks
Awesome well done!!! Great video 😊
As a new ebay seller i appreciate your stance on given us 0 feedback sellers a chance😂. I am hoping this isnt a reason no one is buying yet :/.
You are welcome! Keep plugging away, it'll pick up!
I wish I had an Amazon bins near me.

Great question. I've only been in there maybe two times? It's not my jam. I know there could be some good stuff in there but it takes a lot of digging to find the treasures.
The 24 items starts at 4:02
What bins or at least state are you in? I don’t see stuff like that at the bins I have gone to a couple times lol
Tucson Arizona. It really depends on how they are run. Some can be notorious for pulling inventory for themselves.
Thank you!!
Question: do you know how fast an item sells with 50% sell through?? Like how many days or weeks or months

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions. Is there any other place to look for comps. besides eBay?
Worth point if it's a rare or super old item. You want to use eBay if that's where you are selling.

I’ve been a “victim” of not looking at the sell through rate & just looking at what items are listed for
We've all done it. But what we learn is more important.

Wow!!👏👏👏
Where do you buy that has a testing station?
My Amazon bins have a testing area to test before you buy.
Is the desert dashboard an excel, google docs or its own software.
Google Sheet 😎

nice... why free shipping on that backpack?
If that's what the recent solds did, I match it to get it to move quick.
Hello from Germany 🙂
It was Columbus Day lib 😂😂😂
Formally known as. Now it is preferred to be called Indigenous Peoples' Day. But some states still celebrate Columbus.
Remember all bicentennial turns 50 in 2026!

Same day but depending on where you are depends on the name. Some states have changed it. My calendar says both.
