I'm 62, and I've lived in my vehicle off and on for 18 years. Meeting people is the most rewarding part for me. Helping people is also rewarding. I spent 765 dollars yesterday helping a fellow nomad and his wife buy groceries, gas for their RV, and gas for their generator. In my apartment, I could never afford to do that. So now that I don't pay rent,, I help people, and I find that helping others as a nomad has made the road more like home to me.
@@gemini1123 Thank you. Helping people has come back to bless me. On July 30th, 2024, I parked under a tree at a hardware store in Laramie, Wyoming. Before leaving, I noticed my right, rear tire was flat. Soon after, an employee from the store came out with an air compressor and filled up my tire to help me find the leak. Then, two cowboys on bicycles came over and took the tire off and put on my spare tire for me. I knew I would have to pay 20 dollars to get my tire repaired. The next day at the tire repair shop, they fixed my tire and didn't charge me. I always try to help people in need. Because when I'm in need, I often need help too.

As I sit here caring for my rapidly failing husband, I am packing my stuff to store, and trying to decide on a vehicle. I would love more success stories. 3 minutes in and I was already crying. I was a gypsy for Halloween 4 years in a row when I was a little girl. At 58, I'm doing everything I can to make myself ready to do this.
I thoroughly enjoyed this vlog, the story of Jo Lynn, the possibilities, The dream. The friendships made. Wow really wish I could try this at my ripe old age of 66 !
Hoping to begin my Nomad life soon. Am 66, will probably go camping in my 2020 Honda CRV touring car. But am a live in caregiver for 88 year old gentleman, he doesn't want me to leave. But hate the idea of waiting for him to pass.😣 Don't know how much time I have left. Was ready to go last year but COVID wrecked that
These days you might well have another 25 years left. But he surely doesn't. I guess it is a very personal decision. But there aren't a lot of guys who live much past that fellow's age.
Liked it! Edited by John Woo, cameo of Bob Wells and the HOWA Volunteers! Optimism strangely is in short supply until you see hit a Homerun. I appreciate that and Thank You. And you have great screen presence. :)
I'm only 52 and have been watching countless videos over last two years ... money is always the issue because I am not old enough for even a small retirement check. So I am trying to figure out how to work from the road with bad knees, but it's killing me being trapped in town.
I'll offer another option....what I did, although when young, was to buy a dump of a house with friends. We lived in it and fixed it up as best we could. It was not what I would call enjoyable, but life isn't always perfect. The cost for me to get into that property was less than the price of a new van at the time (apples to apples). Over the first years all the other owners moved on and we took in renters. We sold the house as a rental property. With appreciation, the improvements we made, rent we had collected I got back my initial investment plus about 1/2 what a new van was selling for. I repeated this and eventually could buy homes on my own. I've saved a lifetime of rent and gained a lot on appreciation. It is hard work, not always pleasant. I've have moved several times to different states to buy what I could afford. Look closely at the cost of living in van. Many of these "nomads" have made poor financial decisions their entire life and this is just one more. Living in a van is extremely expensive. Yup, initially it looks cheap. A person buys a used van and hits the road...set for life. Then the van breaks down. Almost by definition you're probably going to be in the middle of nowhere so a huge towing fee. You're not going to be able to shop around, you'll have to pay whatever the closest repair shop charges. Or you buy another used van. No refrigeration so food costs increase and probably you eat more processed food which adds to health issues. You have to drive to new places to camp, gas isn't free. Lot's of propane. People look at nomadding as cheap because that's what they want it to be. Well living on the street is cheap. Vans and driving costs money. Some people do OK with a nomad life, but take a close look at them, they have some things in common...they're all pretty bright people, can figure things out, creative, healthy. That's their secret. But I see many videos like this one enticing people who don't have all these skills into the same lifestyle. "If I can do it you can too!" People don't like to face it but many people get into rough shape because of making poor choices their entire life. Van life will just be on more bad choice for many.
@@MrWaterbugdesign thanks for the option. I won't ever live in a house with roommates again though and I won't hit the road without a proper budget I will have lived on before hitting the road.
I have started making jewelry and t-shirts and am trying to make them sale worthy. I'm still too far away from retirement, but I'm working on it. Plus, I have 150lbs to lose. I'm sure you must have skills worth exchanging for some income. Think about it. I'm sure you can find that thing you would love doing despite the bad knees. Don't give up the dream!
Bob Wells lived in a van in his town while he worked till he could retire with a pension. A person doesn’t have to wander far to live cheaply in a vehicle.
My friend Gator sold everything, and bought a 200K RV and was sick of the road, RV parks the bugs and sold the RV for 120K and moved back into a condo in S. Florida with one of his lady friends. He is sad it didn't work out but seems pretty happy now
The new lifestyle that requires more MOVEMENT, Restrengthening of muscles gone weak, will save our lives!! In the 'old days' we lived on farms and worked til our last breath. We have gotten soft with technology. We sit, get fat and lose our strength, and get stiff. You can't do that as a Nomad.
Im an economic migrant, or my romantic title, 21st century nomad. I'm 69. I lived in London for 51 years, then I left in 2004. I have a small pension but its cheaper for me to travel around the world sleeping in dorms in hostels than it is to live in England. And the Quality of my life has improved immeasurably. 14 years in Asia, one year in South America and the last 15 months in Spain, Portugal and Berlin.
I have the plan of traveling around in a converted cargo van. I was In the process of getting ready when I had a multiple sclerosis flare, And I can’t drive anymore. And I can’t move very well. We had already planned on pulling a small trailer behind us so I could have my walker but now I’m in an electric wheelchair, And simply I am unable to do many things you need to do if you’re going to be living in a van. So we’ll travel, I will need to stay at places where there is power, as I need to charge my chair. It was a wonderful dream though, of living the nomad life. Luckily I still can afford my home base, But my heart is out there on the road. Hopefully, I’ll see you down the road!
I'd have to buy something I could stand up in. These SUV's and mini-vans would drive anyone nuts after a while. Weekends or short trips, sure. But to live in full time? No way.
I'm 61 fighting colon cancer out here. I had to change absolutely everything. I juice a gallon a day and make my own cannabis oil. No sugar or processed food. I can't imagine dealing with anymore health issues. Best to take care of yourself Seniors. Protect your mind. Pharmaceutical drugs are destroying us. 😢
Wow! Bob Wells GAVE her a converted van to be a nomad in and THREE months later she gave up and is back to sitting around smoking cigarettes! What a travesty because someone else could have actually used that van in the spirit it was intended. I’ve done the nomad life and plan to do it again upon retirement in a few years. It’s not easy but a love of camping and being outdoors and time doing both should be considered prerequisites before doing so. This woman is like the people who saw “Wild” and “A Walk In the Woods’ and set out on a thru hike without ever hiking
How many people will glean the wisdom and knowledge of Mr. Bob Wells. It is said that we age, our wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, grow likewise. I can only hope this is true with my self and the many others I have met on the net. Peace be to all, as well as grace and mercy.

@@notanomad9320 yes they are.. Even ones on the road alot either get a house or a group get land where thet can chill and regroup. A few are on someone else's property like sitters. Or do a job where they camp so they get a chance to be a part of normal business and only sleep there.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH.... THE ONLY VIDEO OUT OF THOUSANDS THAT I HAVE WATCHED THAT SPEAKS TO ME PERSONALLY.....LIKE A BOLT OF ELECTRICITY..TY MANKIND FOR DOING SOMETHING RIGHT AMONGST ALL OF THE THINGS WE HAVE DONE WRONG
Congratulations for this woman having the intestinal fortitude to take the leap of faith for freedom.. there is more to this lady than meets the eye
This document is great!!! But this life is way harder than people think I live off the grid but in a house!!!
crying so much watching this video
She left everything behind, including her husband LOL!
What a marvellous film about people with real courage, curiosity about life and the determination to really live it while they can. Thank you for this gift, Vanessa and Josh.
What lovely little story. I can relate to these women. They have more courage than I. Imagined doing this for years, but don't care to alone.
Why did I bawl throughout this whole video?
You can see the instant shift. A little kindness can change a life. Beautiful
Women go through a lot everyday. They give n give all the time. Bob is a giving guy, he doesn't hv to, u know. He brought joy to women n men both...n me too watching from far far north, thk u all
I love the progression of Jo Lynn, and how she has visibly grown stronger and wiser. She is blooming into a beautiful person❤️❤️❤️.
A heartwarming story of hope, redemption & love, this is the kind of America we can all be. Pay it Forward, to Pay it back. peace, light & love ~
VanLife is a revelation for the young as much the older ones. This life offers much for many. Thanks for this portrait of one aspect of nomadic life.
Bless her heart for getting out there. I wanna do it too
I started crying at 2:00 minutes into this story, this is absolutely beautiful :)
Me Too.. I cried when I heard Bob's voice in the trailer for NomadLand movie too
What a great way to end the day. Thank you
Beautiful people, beautiful stories, making healthy choices along the path of life ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Wow what a way to find community. Out on the open road.
To really enjoy and thrive during your senior years, give up cigarettes and eat healthier. It makes a huge difference.
I do not smoke anymore but i do understand that sometimes all we have to help us through is a cigarette and whatever is available to eat. Please do not judge
@Hieu TV I know. but it's not always that simple.
Maybe she has as her friend cannot be around smoke and she can clearly see the lung damage she could face.
I bet they never thought of that! What a unique bit of insight you have come up with!!! Have you ever considered becoming a life coach???
As a former smoker I can tell you the least helpful and most motivation sapping thing is to make such suggestions. When a person is ready to quit, they will appreciate help...suggesting a walk, movie, coffee in a book shop with them. Also, don’t judge if they aren’t quite able to stop - it takes many tries before success for some people. Be loving and accepting.
3 minutes in and I was already crying. I was a gypsy for Halloween 4 years in a row when I was a little girl.
At 58, I'm doing everything I can to make myself ready to do this.
Go for it and best of luck
So that's it? A beginning with no middle and no end...? Bravo!
caged bird finally free to explore life and she’s free no regrets
🥰
I thoroughly enjoyed this vlog, the story of Jo Lynn, the possibilities, The dream. The friendships made. Wow really wish I could try this at my ripe old age of 66 !
Yes me too
Yes me three!!
I'm GONNA do it...you won't know you can do it until you try it....come on let's go !!!! 👍
You aren’t dead! Do it
Hoping to begin my Nomad life soon.
@@dingfeldersmurfalot4560 I cared for a couple in their 80s. Now im sharing space and retired but live the idea of going in a van to explore
Liked it! Edited by John Woo, cameo of Bob Wells and the HOWA Volunteers! Optimism strangely is in short supply until you see hit a Homerun. I appreciate that and Thank You. And you have great screen presence. :)
Inspiring! I'm living vicariously through all the nomad youtubers for now. Hope to be a nomad in 6 yrs.
This is so fantastic. I cried thru it. I have hope. Thank you
I'm only 52 and have been watching countless videos over last two years ... money is always the issue because I am not old enough for even a small retirement check.
@@MrWaterbugdesign very sad reality nicely explained.
It was worth getting back on Facebook to see this! Moving and inspirational....Bravo Josh and Vanessa!
Lol you’re not on Facebook.
I'm rooting for you jo lynn...
This is both sad and really beautiful.
This is beautiful!. I am so happy for her and all the people finding happiness in doing this.
My friend Gator sold everything, and bought a 200K RV and was sick of the road, RV parks the bugs and sold the RV for 120K and moved back into a condo in S. Florida with one of his lady friends. He is sad it didn't work out but seems pretty happy now
I bet that's more common than we know.
Amen
Im an economic migrant, or my romantic title, 21st century nomad. I'm 69. I lived in London for 51 years, then I left in 2004. I have a small pension but its cheaper for me to travel around the world sleeping in dorms in hostels than it is to live in England. And the Quality of my life has improved immeasurably. 14 years in Asia, one year in South America and the last 15 months in Spain, Portugal and Berlin.
"We all misfits " 🥰...love the freedom to be true to yourself
this was heartfelt.
Nice message. So many of us fall into the trap we call "life." There are many ways for people to be happy. I am envious .
I am very proud of Jo Lynn for leaving her energy wasting husband and trapped life behind. it shows courage and dignity
He even inspired me.. and now I'm working on my van so I can live the life I've always dreamed of
Giving someone a future is a beautiful thing.
Blessings to all Nomads🤗
Heart breaking but rejuvenating.
I wonder how they are doing today? Thanks for a great video 🙋🌷🍀
I’m 60 and I’m out there with you. Just spent 3 weeks in North Idaho and Washington.
Remarkable, beautiful and inspiring! Bob Wells, all hail to you brother! Pop up magazine 😃👍
I’m so happy for her I’m glad she’s free she’s a beautiful soul and I hope she starts thinking nicer things about herself
I'd have to buy something I could stand up in. These SUV's and mini-vans would drive anyone nuts after a while. Weekends or short trips, sure. But to live in full time? No way.
Yup impossible unless you are as fit as you were at 60 as you were at 15 -25 yo
@@tinrat-n-teet Oh, I can do it. I do it all the time on short trips. But no way I would want to full time.
Try it & let yourself know if you can or can not...UK
@@MarcelGodfrey Sky Tiger did try. She doesn't want to live like that full time. It's her choice.
We make our own cannabis oil but it's getting hard to find trim anymore for RSO. Everything is so expensive it's hard to stay healthy.
Wow this is by far the best video i have ever seen on real life situations and longing for your freedom. Excellent ❤
Looks like Jo Lynn rekindled her inner spark!!
Enlightening story. TFS!
How many people will glean the wisdom and knowledge of Mr. Bob Wells. It is said that we age, our wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, grow likewise. I can only hope this is true with my self and the many others I have met on the net. Peace be to all, as well as grace and mercy.
Love ❤️ that riddle..
This was very precious and wholesome. I’m glad that I took the time to watch 💖
I cried for her when I saw the video. I almost feel the same way. I'm looking for a vehicle. I'm trying to plan. I'm past retirement age. This is what I want. I want something for myself. My kids want me to keep the house. I feel like it could be a ball and chain since the house isn't paid for yet. Happy travels to Jo Lynn!
I am so proud of this woman. Rock on Jolynn
Her husband must have had a mean spirited view on the word like you seem to have. Take accountability for the fact that your post added negativity and distance
@Edwoods Philosophy please troll elsewhere.
Beautiful little doc. Thank you for creating and sharing this.
This was very uplifting.....Thank You ....
Great story so many relatable themes 🥰
See ForestyForest videos on youtube. Especially his older ones where he lives in a tiny Chevy Uplander :) his new bigger van is nice but that small van is a stealth camper rig
Very moving video! Thank you for giving hope to so many.
