We can't leave out Jim Ross and his commentary, he sold it like no other.
Absolutely, people keep bringing up Stone Cold, The Rock, HHH and Undertaker but the commentary from Jerry The King and Jim Ross cannot go unnoticed.
Yeah they had commentary on lock down, WCW had no comparison.
“HES STOMPIN A MUDHOLE IN HIS ASS! AND WALKIN IT DRY!!”
100%. JR’s voice and emotions are locked instep with all other elements of Stone Cold’s tremendous success and popularity.
Absolutely I'll never forget his commentary at no way out when Austin whooped bichoff ass
We also need to give huge props to vince. Him playing as the manipulative evil boss and feuding with austin also played a huge role on his popularity.
More like Vince playing as himself
Stone Cold did what many would love to do by insulting and assaulting his boss.
VUCK FINCE
@@luci4463 😂
Yeah Vince allowed himself to be ridiculed, compared to triple h as the boss
That crazy walk he makes to the ring talking to himself is so iconic. He's one of those entertainers we all wish we could be.
‘Oh he’s walkin, he’s talkin, bah Gawd Stone Cold is here!!!’
Oh he's walking, he's talking, he's ready to kick somebody's ass, Austin has parted the red sea, Stunner, another Stunner, another Stunner, the Texas Rattlesnake is on Fire, the whole game changed when Austin got here 😂😂😂bloody love it
When he was the most pissed he was talking shit all the way to turnbuckles
does he walk like that in real life?
@@vibsmith555 of course he does, everywhere he goes 🤣🤣🤣
Stone Cold single-handedly defined the attitude era just by the pops he received alone. Without him and the Rock, WWF would've never reached the heights as it did in the late 90s. That alone makes him one of the GOAT's.
Stop, there were other events that played a role as well. Undertaker and the ministry, DX, the Nation of Domination, and other things had a huge role I'm it as well. Stone Cold single handedly alone is nothing without all those other factors. The Rock rising up in his absence is more than enough proof.
@@younglove3362 thank youuuuu 💯, it's so annoying when people act like Stone Cold did it all by himself as if there aren't two wrestlers in the main events of Mania or a whole locker room of hard workers to make those plays happen, yes he's the QB but he still had teammates 🤷♂️
@@younglove3362 All those wrestlers you named has said Austin was the reason WWE became as big as it did. This doesn't mean others didn't help to make it popular. Austin just took it a level never seen.
@@DrWei1111 A better analogy is he was the Michael Jordan of wrestling. MJ took the NBA to another level of popularity just like Austin did.
@@erocchawithout jake the snake, Brett Hart and Paul hayman there is no stone cold
JR screaming "STONE COLD! STONE COLD!" at the top of his lungs during all entrances... Makes it all even more memorable
The late 90s were all about antiheroes. Stone Cold Steve Austin was in the right place in the right time. His work in the ring, his promo ability, his character, and the backing of the fans, all perfectly aligned.
Stone Cold, Sting, NWO black and white/red, DX, and a few other anti heroes revolutionized the 90's.
Mid 90s,ecw made the antihero cool
Now we're in the Anti-Villain Era with heroic heels.
Prefect storm, few get them.
@@42BigNate Antiheroes are the most relatable to real life people.
Austin hitting McMahon in the head with a bed pan will always make me laugh.
That noise! LMAO
It will never not be funny.
yup that was freakin hilarious
lol
😂😂TOO funny
Me and my brother still laugh about the way Rock took a stunner to this day. No-one took it as well as him, absolutely legendary.
Every time the Rock got stunned he would over sell it and do a back flip. I'd bust out laughing every time. If you watch Wrestlemania 17 when Austin stuns him Rock did his usual backflip but way more absurd you can see Austin start laughing.
What I loved about The Rock was he did everything he could to get someone like Stone Cold or the Undertaker to break character.
@@luketallman891 trying to make Taker break character is responsible for some legendary WWE moments. Wasn't the People's Elbow mostly an attempt to make Taker corpse (pun intended) as well?

Stone Cold Steve Austin is a jewel among men. Proud to be his fan. Long live champ.
My favourite wrestler of all time
Yeeeesssss You And Me Both!!!!!..Love This Man!!
For starters he had the best intro music, the best walk, the sweetest rides, and the best finisher. End of story
Stole his intro music from Razor Ramon and he definitely does not surpass The Rock or Hogan for the most popular WWE character of all time. Most entertaining? Yes but definitely not most popular.

IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME. BEST ERA IN WRESTLING HISTORY
It's simple. He was a part of the real man but turned up to the maximum. He was all we wanted to be; confident, badass, charismatic, a bit mysterious and most of all, relatable.
Relatable is so overrated
I absolutely love steve but I feel so often we never talk about how timing was the greatest thing to help him out. He was exactly the right kind of character for a late 90s crowd to enjoy
He still had to be who he was, regardless of the timing.
BS if prime Austin was thrown into the WWE today he would still be over ASF and a lot of the people who stopped watching would tune back in
@@jest3167exactly this is such a dumb take that can be proven wrong by looking at how over LA knight currently is who is bringing that same Austin/rock energy
I actually have the opposite take. The attitude era became the attitude era because of Stone Cold. I would argue timing had nothing to do with it because he’s the guy that would have changed the face of wrestling no matter what time you put him in.
It’s simple. He was the right guy playing the right character at the right time it was a perfect storm of excellence.
Being in middle school and high school during this time was amazing. Never missed a Monday no matter what. Wwf was so damn entertaining. Glad I grew up during this era.
I'm 42 and got major goosebumps then. Nothing on earth tops a Steve Austin entrance. Our leader of the defiant and rebellious 90s
Ohhhh HELLL YEAAAH!
I agree. Him and Rock, but the guy who gave me the most goosebumps back then was when HHH came back from a long injury with his new theme music and the very 1st time he spit that water in the air.
That Walking , That entrance , That self-trash talks , That Gimmick , That entire package , That Music , That Attire everything was just phenomenal & was everything & he single-handedly took the entire company to an another untouchable Level & took the Company to the sky. This character was like it's me against the entire roster.
I lived through hulkamania and the Stone Cold era. Unequivocally, Steve Austin was a much bigger star. Arenas would erupt when that glass broke. He had people in the palm of his hand even before he stepped through the curtain. And he never was stale or did his gimmick get old
Disagree. I saw both live. My ears rang for 3 days after Hogan came out. At worst they were equivalent. Imo Hogan was arguably more popular in their heyday
Same close tho, could go either way
*damn
nah. Hogan forever. Wrestlemania 18 baby. Hogan is the goat.
Steve Austin is the goat and that's the bottom line
He was my first favorite wrestler when I first started watching in 1999 and is one of my childhood heroes. Hell watching his match against Kevin Owens last year made me feel like I was 7 years old again lol. God bless The Texas Rattlesnake Stone Cold Steve Austin🐐🐐
How could you not mention JR's selling for Austin??? There was that short segment of "STONE COLD! STONE COLD!" you showed, but JR really made it feel like Austin was THE toughest SOB badass the planet had ever seen. JR being Austin's cheerleader made those events truly iconic.
Yeah, JR definitely helped to put Austin over with a level of enthusiasm that he had for no one else (Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stunner! Stunner!), not to mention the nicknames he appeared to have coined (and if not, he sold them quite sell) like "Texas Rattlesnake" and "Bionic Redneck".
i always loved the rock flipping around after the stunner 😂😂👌
Iconic entrance. One of the best finishers ever. Fantastic promo. Helped that he had the greatest heel ever to feud with as well
Stone Cold is all the things Roman Reigns wants to be, for all the reasons Reigns never will be.
Bro speaking FAX
Roman character worked after he started being himself I doubt he now wants to be someone else

Roman Reigns
Vs
Stone Cold Steve Austin 💀 🍻🍻
What a dumb comment lmao. Roman is doing the ric flair/triple h type character, roman isnt trying to be stone cold and he knows he could never be stone cold. Roman has become a big draw in his own right; of course hes not as big of a draw as austin because nobody was, not even cena for as big as he got. Hell, The Rock has been hollywood's biggest star for a decade, and in the wrestling boom, even he was behind austin.
Dont put down another performer just because they dont match austin. Nobody matches austin.
When ever we here the class shatter, the pop from the fans is deafening. No other wrestler gains this much charisma and ovation than Stone Cold. Not even The Rock, John Cena, Roman Reigns and LA Knight.
Sorry who's LA LIGHT????ITS THAT BAD I DONT EVEN KNOW THESE GUYS
I feel like Vince never wanted Rock to be bigger than Austin because Austin saved the company
LOL it's just acting my friend
The rock was never close to being stone cold!!!
Being a guy in his early 20’s during The Attitude Era was amazing!
Stone Cold 🐐
same!
Glass shattering Theme alone is a goosebumps 🔥🔥🔥
Right guy, right time. Attiude 🔥
Man I’m 37 and that glass shattering still gets me excited as fk
Vince McMahon probably has PTSD hearing his theme song
That pop from Mankind vs The Rock on Raw still gives me goosebumps to this day; what a moment!
The greatest ever. A childhood hero to millions. I remember the next morning in school after RAW, there was only ONE thing everyone ever talked about - "did you see how Austin _______"? And even teachers joined in on the conversation!
Thank you, Steve. For the amazing childhood memories!
JR: "STONE COOLD!! STONE COOLD!! STONE COOLD!!
Miss that line so much ❤❤❤❤
Triple H & The Rock really sold those Stone Cold Stunners in such hilarious fashion
back in 1998, we're all waiting for the sound of glass shattered. the rivalry between Stone Cold and Vince McMahon was unbeatable 😁
The Rock in the thumbnail smiling in the corner like he's watching his older sibling getting spanked from their parents.😂😂😂😂
😂😂
15:26 Austin breaks his character seeing Triple Hs selling is hilarious to watch 😂😂
AUSTIN is a true, real life Living Legend! The KING!!!
A protagonist can only rise only when the antagonist is more menical. Starting more from WM 13 with his best match of his career with Bret Hart to winning the WWF Championship next WM to outdoing the Rock and finally Vince. The legendary promos of 3:16, iconic Jim Johnson entrace theme,)so many catchphrases, middle figure gestures and drinking nbeers after every match (courtesy of Mark Yeaton). Also don't forget the 90s era we lived a lot of thing that was allowed back then on cable television would never be allowed today.
Reasons Stone Cold is the undisputed GOAT: Austin is the most popular/over wrestler of all time and is in the top 5 of all time in every single category. Technical wrestlers like Bret Heart, Undertaker, Flair, loved matches with him, Heart himself saying his best ever match was WM13 with Austin. He was a world class talker probably only behind rock, he brought out true fan passion and attachment more than anyone in history, merchandise hese number 1 ever, impact hese top 3 ever and a huge reason WWF/E turned around Monday night war ratings. He was the leader of the greatest and most competitive wrestling era of all time! IT AINT EVEN CLOSE
2000 rock was the most over of all time. He carried the company to the highest it's ever been. Smackdown exists for one reason
@Thugofchoc do your research, Austin was way more over, there wouldn't even be smackdown without Austin
Wrestling ain’t wrestling without Jim Ross screaming “Stone Cold” over and over again at the top of his lungs.
Austin in real life is a much nicer guy than he portrays on camera he does that for our pleasure he lost his dog today and he sent a heartfelt post.
Everything in him was explosive, the entrance, the walk, the moveset, finisher, the taunts. The glass crack just changed whole mood in the arena in a second.
mannnn i grew up in this era of wrestling.. i loved it so much. hats off to all the guys who were the stars of the show and honestly, hats off to Vince McMahon for making it what it was, that guy is honestly a genius. his era of wrestling was by far the most entertaining and off the wall. he was even such a huge part of it himself staying in shape with the roster and being such a big part of everyone's career as the big bad boss, the arch villain of the whole show. nobody ever mentions it but the greatest performer of all time was by far Vince McMahon, never broke character, always was down for the wildest shit anyone could come up with and always put on a tremendous show for everybody.
thank you Vince McMahon.
Hell yeah! Vince was the GOAT as well!
He seriously was.
I use stone cold’s theme to wake me up in the morning. Never fails to wake me up
Stone cold still to this day gets some of the largest crowd pops when he makes appearances. I went to a Raw back in 2019 in NYC because he was gonna be there, and that crowd erupted and was easily the loudest of the night.
21:10 celebrity death match was the greatest thing ever if you grew up watching it as a kid
I've always loved the "EHH EHH!!!" 😂🤣😂🤣
Everyone lived vicariously through Stone Colds antics…Man’s a legend! The GOAT!
I'm gonna send this to anyone who says that they grew up during the ruthless aggression era. This perfectly sums up how Cena would never be an Austin, as great as he is.
Steve Austin was bigger than life. I miss the attitude era. What a time to be alive. WWF at the time was most see tv. I remember in school, everyone talkibg about raw the night before .
Times were so much fun before censorship and social media
No one beats the look of defeat that crosses Vince McMahon face when that glass breaks
The real tragedie of Austin's career was after wrestlemania 13 he was finally anointed as the future of the wwf and that summerslam match with Owen cut his career short and changed how he had to wrestle before the injury he was one of if not the best in ring profomers that's why the hit man was a driving froce in giving him his chance and wanting to have his first feud with when he returned that was one of my all time favorite rivalrys and late 96 until Austin was done was the best time to be a fan it will never be like that again he was magic
STONE COLD STONE COLD STONE COLD

Everyone is gangsta until the glass shattered and stone cold came out
You gotta give credit to vince as he is the fuel for stone cold's fire during the attitude era. Giving stone cold the best story line against him and the rock and basically with everyone. 😅
Bruh, for me, Nothing beats Stone Cold climbing those turnbuckles for his signature F-U arm double arm raise and seeing the Hundreds of cameras flashing away, desperate to capture That one moment.
Always gives me goosebumps, even now as a 37yo, going from Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior to, Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels to, Savio Vega vs Stone Cold, I've gone through some eras of wrestling, but, Nothing will ever top attitude era.
Every wrestler, from big card to small card had an air about them, skills and movesets in the ring, great titles. Even the Divas were in a league of their back then.
Also, a lot of people hate the heel Stone Cold phase but I rather enjoyed it because he gave the floor to a lot of mid-low card wrestlers the chance to try their chops on The mic and in the ring.
There'll Never be another Austin!!!
AUSTIN is EASILY THE GOAT. NO ONE can touch him. Especially 98-99. AUSTIN is HIM.

Stone Cold has one of the most chilling, goosebump raising entrance of all time.
Second in my opinion is the bell ring or the Undertaker.
An entrance is honestly one of the most important things, and that glass smash is so iconic and imo probably the beat entrance ever. Without that hlass smash it wouldnt have been as good. And i honestly think that one small detail could have been the difference in steve being the GOAT and just someone alot of people liked but forgot about.
Wrestling will never ever be this good again ...I was a long time fan since 1988 right up until around 2005 when I kinda drifted away from it ...we didn't realise how lucky we were at the time...I witnessed Hulkamania at its peak , i saw The Undertakers debut ..I watched bret hart and Mr Perfect put on a wrestling clinic at Summerslam 91...I saw the birth of the N.W.O , Austin 3:16 and Goldberg I watched the Rock rise and Kane's arrival aswell as the Underrtaker throw Mick Foley off then through a steel cell..I do truly miss those days
The Tupac of wrestling....
Facts
I love a lot of eras of wrestling, but having two superstars as over as Austin and The Rock at the same time was what made the Attitude era my #1
It was just a perfect storm... There was so many greats... HHH, Jericho, HBK, Undertaker, Kane.... it just all worked and was so entertaining.
@@douglarochelle2620 I so wish HBK hadn't been retired because of his back for most of the Attitude Era.
Even the “undercard” type guys… Edge & Christian, the Hardy’s, the Dudley Boys… not sure how I forgot about Kurt Angle in the first reply… During the WCW/WWF merge was some of the best stuff.
The great part Is Vince had two huge superstars and he knew how to make it work
It was lightning in a bottle. Austin organically got over with fans and lived up to all the hype, had the best villains against him (Vince, Undertaker, Rock, HHH) and at the perfect time in pop culture.
I loved when he gave the middle finger to his opponent when he delivers the Stone Cold Stunner 😁 One of the greatest of all time for sure!
Stone Cold's popularity and you
add The Rock as well equals BOOM!!!!!!!!!
Vince was instrumental in the stone cold/vince fued and for that segment it was a 50/50 contribution, Vince selling made Austin's action even more engrossing
My dad was a spitting image of stone cold. People use to think my dad was him. His attitude, size and the way carried himself was spot on. Unfortunately he loved beer alittle too much and it eventually killed him. Every time I see stone cold I remember my dad. I miss you dad!
I got goosebumps just listening to the pops. Watched this on TV back when I was 10 years old. Memorable times
I could just watch compilation of wrestler selling the stone cold stunner all day, very entertaining lol.
5:43 I still remember that Raw episode, Rock call out Austin immediately after defeating William Regal and then it was an epic segment between those 2 until Rock hit Austin with Rock Bottom and got interfered by Jericho and Angle, great days of wrestling
He is an example of what a perfect storm is. You just can't attribute Steve's success to only one thing, it was the perfect combination of everything else. From himself, to his music, to Vince, to the other superstars that faced him, everything just came together to create the best wwf superstar that has ever being in the ring. Great times. We were very lucky to be in those times.

I think it is also his voice and looks.
He looks like a very strong old man even when he is young. So young men love him. His voice and way he speaks definitely played a role in his stardom
At 15:36 that was stone colds best stunner ever. The flow of it was perfect. Even had a little spin to it
The glass breaking still gives me chills & I'm already 47! 😂
It was vince... i dont whos idea all that was, but vince signed off on it. There's a ridiculous amount of humility needed to be ok with that. Vince owned the company, but he was 100% the best non-wrestling heel in history. Maybe even the best.
Vince is the company's greatest heel, HHH takes second.
@@TrollinThru There was a period where HHH was more hated than Vince.

Stone Cold has been my eternal favorite Pro Wrestler since 98-99. Thatvwas when I truly became a SCSA FAN
Man it was the ATTITUDE ERA, The best era of wrestling. It was beautiful...Steve giving the boss the finger then dropping him on his head...WHAT!, he represented what we all wanted to do to our bosses, in the late 90's and early 2000s my wife and I were watching RAW and SMACKDOWN like a fu**ing soap opera. The man was an ultimate rebel. Steve and Vince had a chemistry tha twill never be re-created in wrestling again.

Eventually THE ROCK started doing it, JERICHO started dissing the bosses daughter...but it all started with Stone Cold, just genius.
