I had the pleasure of getting my picture taken with William Shatner this past September at a convention in Pittsburgh. When I approached him I asked, "Denny Crane?", and he replied, "Yep, that's my name!" It was a short moment in my life that made a mountain of an impact.
Thanks for reading. I only met him briefly, so I couldn't tell you exactly what his personality is like. Nevertheless, he was good to me and the other fans who were in line with me. So I'd say if you get the chance to meet him, give it a shot.
Personally if I ever met William Shatner, the first thing that would come to my mind would more than likely be "Rescue 911." That was my absolute favorite show when I was a kid and quite honestly, the only thing I knew him for until I was about 14 or so.
I love the cop giving him a leading question, trying to get him out of trouble later. "DID you believe Mr. Shore was in imminent danger of deadly harm?" "No! Why would I Wait for That to happen?!"

personally I think Denny's best moment was when he shot the child murderer in both knees was awesome & well deserved. Mind you pretty much anything Denny did was awesome
Well, the rifle he's using, I believe, is pilot's emergency rifle that they assemble when shot down behind enemy lines. So that may be related to that as well.
I also love the subtext with the two women in the office. At the start, they're treating Denny like a senile old fool to a degree, hoping he will just be quiet. At the end, it's almost as if they're turned on by him..
Boston Legal was one of the funniest sitcoms ever made! I used to laugh my ass off and couldn't wait until the next episode came on. So sad when they pulled the plug. Definitely some of David E. Kelly's best work!
You won't regret it - it was a brilliant series. James Spader won a couple of well-deserved Emmys for his part. And Shatner is just superb too. In fact the whole cast are great.
It was an awesome show, with a great cast. I honestly thought it was much better than The Practice, which it spun off from. Both Shatner and Spader were excellent and had some really great lines throughout it's 5 season run. Hands down the best show David E. Kelley ever made IMO.
"You Really don't realize what's happening?" "I think that I do ... let's take off our clothes." Also... Lake Bell has a lovely body, totally frakkable - any time.
This is one of the best series I have seen in years... and William Shatner was a brilliant piece of casting in this role... Captain Kirk reinvented as an eccentric lawyer.. joy to watch... 🙂
Actually, it was an AR-7 survival rifle. Henry simply purchased the rights to make it, but they didn't invent it. My cousin had one; .22LR and pretty accurate considering the takedown barrel. The barrel assembly could be stowed in the stock, and the butt cap put back on, and it would float!
As much as I love James T Kirk, William Shatner played the hell out of part as Denny Crane. It's equal. I absolutely love both shows because of Mr. Shatner. He is simply the best at what he does!

William Shatner was introduced to us as Captain Kirk, perhaps took a step backward as T.J. Hooker, but as Denny Crane, he was absolutely at his best. Watching him on Boston Legal, I had a feeling I've not had with any other character, ever: (i) William Shatner IS Denny Crane; and (ii) Denny Crane IS William Shatner. It's just that tight.
The reason he is "ham" is because Shatner got his start on Broadway, where "ham" and "over acting" is key, especially in the 50's and 60's. And rewatching TOS on Netflix, he rarely went ham. The only times he really went full "ham" is episodes like the mirror universe one, the time he gets split into all good and all evil, where he HAS to act up the evil or crazy, like the time he screamed. "I'M CAPTAIN KIIIIIIRK!!!!!!!!!" Heck, there was even a episode where Kirk has to pretend he has gone crazy with power and Shatner has to pretend to be "hamming" it up and "acting badly." At first I must confess, i thought "Wow he's not even trying, he keeps pausing, he's clearly just reading a script." But then the reveal hits and its obvious why he was playing it soo badly. Kirk is a terrible actor. But Shatner is great.

You never point a gun at someone unless you're ready to fire. You never fire a gun at someone unless you're ready to kill them. You never fire without trying to kill them. There is no such thing as a warning shot, EVER. You don't shoot to 'wound', it's just stupid. Denny did it all right, but he needs to spend a little time at the range.
Barbara Vick in fairness, Denny Crane had only a split second to aim when the door opened. He even had to assess who was standing where so he didn’t shoot bystanders or Alan. I didn’t see the episode, but I can imagine on the balcony at the end he admits to missing the center of mass in an ambiguous, amusing way that makes one wonder if he meant to shoot to wound or kill.

He's not a crazed mass murderer or psychopath, he's a parent under a lot of stress that just lost his reason for being.
I used to own one of those Henry survival rifles he shoots in this scene (the barrel and receiver fits in the butt when stowed). They don't sound like that - the report is much more high pitched and sharper. And they're only .22 LR caliber, so they're hardly a decisive weapon. But the scene is brilliant. It's semi-automatic, so he could have and should have fired at least three times.

Wow, great stuff! I saw Shatner and Nimoy in Boston years ago and it was wonderful, although nobody signed autographs.
