I’ve read that it’s best to use gl4 only in the trans not gl5 or gl5/gl4. Something about additives in gl4 that lubricate the synchros. Redline has it or you can pick it up at Ford. Love your videos btw!
I want to see "ricer miata" & "boosted boiz" TH-camrs battle it out with the miata, also nice job changing all the fluids, can't wait to see this track miata racing!
For track duty cooling I recommend you also do the cooling hose relocation, so the cooled fluid starts at the back of the engine and comes out at the front, not the other way around which is the stock configuration. It's a cheap and easy mod that can go a long way with only an endplate and a different hose.
Since your Miata is being used almost exclusively on the track, don't forget to install a coolant reroute so your fancy radiator can do it's job. In an effort to save money turning the engine 90 degrees, Mazda routed the coolant to flow in the front of the head and out of the front of the head on the other side. This means your #4 cylider at the rear gets minimal coolant flow and tends to run hotter than the other three under track driving. If you get a coolant reroute kit like the one from Supermiata, it uses the back of the head to flow the hot coolant out of and returns to your radiator via a longer cooling hose.
You guys are going to want to use AMSOIL Manual Transmission & Transaxel Gear Lube 75w-90 on the transmission. Your shifting will be butter smooth. Also pick up a "MiataRoadster shifter kit" It's worth it's weight in GOLD!
It is pretty cool that you guys could find such a clean NB Miata for under 4,000$. I don't know where you guys bought it but in Quebec a Miata in such good condition should be around 10,000$. And your Track Battle Challenge is really an awesome idea. Looking forward to more videos of this Miata challenge!!!
Easy basically free mod! The Mazda KL MX6 and Ford Probe) oil filter is a direct fit and a bit larger for a slight bump in oil pressure consistency. My local Mazda dealership gave it to me for free because they never serviced MX6s anymore.
I ran an AP1 S2k filter on my BP. Let me put a full 4L of oil in too. Take the intake manifold brace off the bottom and don't worry about it. Also, the orange basic Fram oil filters are still trash but the Ultra Synthetic filters are very very good and I use them exclusively because I get a great price on them.
I've heard the same thing about Fram, but I have used them my whole life and never had a problem. My dad used them forever too. He never had a problem. My bet is people just didn't keep up with the maintenance and blamed the filter. My truck has over 400,000 miles on it and had always been in Fram filters. Original motor.
I know I'm late to the party but man is this a fun series. Especially because you guys bring it in such a down-to-earth fashion. No 10000$ exhaust or rusty drain pipe, but somewhere in between and I for one like that.
when pouring oil, if you flip the bottom around so the top is at the top, it will pour better and not get the glooping from air pockets as seen in your video.
Fram oil filters are the best on the market now. Just stay away from their economy line. Anyhow 3 things, if you have issue shifting go back to a gl4 only spec fluid. If you have idle issues go back to an ngk plug! Oh and always use OEM rad caps. Excited on this series!
Meh, at least it’s slow and safe enough for most youtuber/viewer’s skill level. And RWD with a relatively short wheelbase gives them a chance to show their oversteer drift control skills. And even if they crash this car, there should be plenty of unwanted junkyard miata parts. Overall, good choice! *cries in mid-engine Toyota MRS Spyder
Why is that big washer bottle by the brake fluid reservoir? Looks like it was meant to have the ABS pump over on the other side? My non-ABS US-spec NB1 has the washer bottle on the passenger side by the fuse box.
@@speedacademy Sure. It might get you some cross-promotion too. In that space there's also JayTwoCents, but he's in SoCal, but he also has 2 cars setup for the track.
