Thank you, our team has worked hard to to bridge the our gaming series alongside many of the enthusiast niche features/benefits of customer enthusiast keyboards. This is an evolution and continuation of what we have been doing throughout the year with models like our ROG FALCHION ACE, ROG STRIX FLARE II ANIMATE and ROG SCOPE series where we have phased in items like pre lubed and binned switches, sound dampening foam, improved stabs, hot swap PCB but also maintained manly elements traditional gamers have wanted. We look forward to the feedback and response from the community and media in 2023.

Very impressive indeed, but it would be nice if there was a cheaper option (the Azoth is 300 bucks) without the screen, the knob and wireless functionality. For me at least, these three features are cool but kinda gimmicky and nothing I would really need in a keyboard (for some, these features will be worth it ofc)

Believe me or not, but after I poured hot tea over my trusty apex 5, I struggled for a month to buy a gaming kb. I'm a gamer. Used a substitute office kb since. Yesterday got this kb. But it's fully modded - akko piano switches, new white caps, all lubed, pe foam, tape Mode 3 ply, removed some gaskets. It's... Amazing. Thocc, gaming is smooth, typing is 1st time in my life enjoyable.
I guess the stock kb is fine too, since the feeling you get from just holding is like it's a Ferrari. Aluminum, oled (gimick imo), and a dial. The dial has Media volume, brightness controls. It's tactile. I feared it would misspress, but so far if I want to tune volume or mute, its smooth.
My gripe is the fact that if you want to not mute but stop media on background while in game, you have to press the dial to get to the media setting. In my old apex 5, there was a button under the dial. So good!
But aside that, the apex 5 wasn't much different to a random 50$ kb.
Azoth looks, feels and now sounds Premium. 0 flex. 100% thock. Space bar sounds clack-thocc.
I feared wireless kbs. Now I think I can never go back to wired. No difference in games compared to the cable!

    • @ancientslav4863
      @ancientslav4863 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I forgot. The 1 thing that is so stupid about this kb is that in wireless mode, you can't can't change RGB unless you use the Asus app.
Also, in any connection, you can only adjust brightness 0/off, 25, 50, 75 and 100%. Wtf? Even my apex had like 10 brightness positions.

They all said it looks nice IRL, but I was skeptical, how a gaming kb with plastic bottom can look good. Damn, the kb is prestige galore! From each side it feels and looks premium, The front panel is aluminum and is a beauty. The bottom plastic is the best plastic I've ever held. Easy to mod, pe foam, tape mod, etc. prelubed, but can swap for cheap akko switches. The 2.4hz wifi mode is revolutionary. I feel 0 difference in FPS shooter like fortnite and warzone to wired mode.
There is only 1 downside to this kb. The caps. You cant see sht, even during day, unless you turn RGB to max and even then its so so from and angle. At night you can see easy at 25%. During day, the caps look like they dont have legends on them at all. like they are pure black and grey only.
You cant change much without asus armoury crate, and in wifi mode, only crate can change settings. But armoury crate is bs app. Cant set brightness to lower than 25%. Its 0, 25, 50, 76, and 100% only.

2 weeks in, battery in wireless mode, with 1 min timeout and 25% RGB brightness has dropped just 10%. 90% currently, with lots of gaming an typing. So this will do 5 months? Doubt it. But I think the 2 months ,that many say, will last easy on 1 charge. And I feel 0 difference to wire mode/wired kb, and I play FPS shooter games. So this kb is kinda revolutionary imo. Made a simple DIY mode, 3 ply painters tape mod, took out the stock foam on bottom, and put PE foam under switches. Sounds thocky, nice. PS-if you want some lower style switches like akko cs piano, no fret. The stock caps are semi-low profile, thus hybrid, and can easily do shorter switches. My akko switches lowered the caps by 2mm, and the kb handles it perfectly. all cheap to do mods. You can also remove some gaskets to have more flex.

We do offer our own internal design switches both ROG NX and ROG RX switches our NX switches are pre binned a rarity amongst pre builds as most do not guarantee force deviation consistency. Also pre lubed and we have different actuation/reset points. Switches are complex though and highly personal but as a whole we feel we have a very solid set of switches that most users and many enthusiasts would be entirely fine with. On the other end we have our RX optical switches which offer many benefit such as reduction keycap wobble, brighter more consistent illumination, fast and consistent actuation and stability.

To see a gaming keyboard that is actually pretty appealing to enthusiasts as well feels like a dream. Most keyboards I've ever seen are either completely gamer-orientated and not appealing to enthusiasts in the slightest, or completely enthusiast-orientated and has some setbacks that might bother gamers (other than a HELLA lot of RGB).
I just hope that BadSeed Tech means an actually affordable price point by a "steal" because I feel like keyboard enthusiasts are the type of people who would call bank-breaking price tags "dirt cheap".
Edit: Apparently the new keyboard will be $250, which no matter how many features you get for the money, dooesn't sound like a "steal". I think enthusiasts are so desensitized to above AirPods level prices for keyboards, they'd call $300 for a "better-sounding" and "better-feeling" mechanical keyboard "dirt cheap" like it's actually $30.
The custom mech keyboard world is literally the California of the overall keyboard universe. Wanna cheap out? F u. You must destroy your bank like the rest of us for anything acceptable.

Did you have the chance to check for interference with cherry profile keycaps? I'm a bit worried given it's north facing. Great review as always, Brian.

Tell them to make the same keyboard wired with Hall effect switches and make the base aluminum as well.

I'll say the same thing I said on Keybored's video, if they offered alternate plates I think this would be a homerun. I hate steel plates. Gimme POM, PC, or FR4. Great video as usual brian!

brooo that keyboard is actually everything i've been looking for. Hopefully all the other big peripheral companies taking notes, and all step their game up like this.

Alright. I just waaaant those key switch modifier tools, I do hope they consider selling those as a tool kit, it could really sell out for the custom keeb builders~

Brian I can’t believe you didn’t throw in some of your own switches and cap onto this keyboard! Either way I’m really blown away by asus who usually brings rather tacky (opinion) peripherals. Hats off to asus

People doesn't seem to realize about what "we" enthusiast and the mainstream want out of a keyboard, it's a huge difference, and this baby step from Asus is just the step we needed to bridge that difference, to introduce some of the features that we loved so much from our boards.
I'm looking forward for what they'll do for the next iteration

Asus setting a new standard for what a gaming keyboard is. Problem with custom keyboard companies like keychron is the big inconsistensy because they expect the customers to mod themself. This is very welcoming, hope you release a white one in nordic market.
