When Larry Hogan was termed out and ROE was overturned he was going to try to make it so hard to obtain an abortion women would run out of time to get one. He also held on to the funds already earmarked for clinics. They were not released till Wes Moore took office. Thankfully our Dem legislature stopped him from limiting access to abortion. He pretended to be a moderate when he needed our vote and when he didn’t his true colors showed.

So he basically did a Youngkin, who after getting elected and realizing his state’s govs can only serve one term, proudly trumpeted the fact that he was going to target transgenders and ban shit had he gotten a state trifecta in 2023, and trusted his constituents to let him get away with these fantasies and acted all surprised when his party got WAXED in that election, losing the Virginia state house for the first time in years. Good rule of thumb: if polling ahead of an election, *especially* a state-level one, has both candidates consistently under 50% support, assume in most cases that the race could really go either way. There's less money put into state-level polling, which means it's often less reliable than national polls, and low numbers like the ones in the older polls here, where candidates were drawing something like 38%-42% and nobody was near a majority, imply the electorate simply doesn't know who these people are and aren't likely going to make up their minds until much closer to election time, assuming they show up to vote at all.

That’s true. But there is a reason why ppl voted for Hogan and a Democrat in house and senate races. Maryland has a lot of federal and federal adjacent employees. They know the consequences of a republican tilt. And don’t put it past Hogan to put party over his electorate.

I think he follows polling data. Ohio and Montana have Democratic incumbents who are defending their seats while polling favorably currently. There is obviously a big chance for those seats to flip R, but Md. is historically a Democratic stronghold and always sees big turnouts in presidential years. Personally, I think Hogan has a chance; I am a Marylander, and people here at least respect Hogan for working across the aisle. He was one of the few Republican governors who took covid seriously and did not spread misinformation about vaccines or the deadliness of the virus. He's also a Republican who has shown a willingness to pass gun control legislation and protect women's reproductive rights. I just think my state recognizes what's at stake as far as keeping the Senate blue and will turn out in big numbers this November to support Alsobrooks. We will see.
