So basically you force serpent hunters special projectile wich normally is only available against Rykard to shoot from the weapon. And because you use the Pizza cutters special wich allows for whatever Ticks it has to be applied to the Serpent Hunter. Thats why you have a gun.
Almost. I don't think it's a projectile so much as the weapon's hitbox becomes very large and elongated, otherwise it wouldn't have worked as in the case of the weapons with projectile based arts. Otherwise, bang on.
Got invaded by a toxic guy in full Bullgoat armour who one shotted me with this glitch. Can't say I appreciate it as much as the Speedrunning community
I've never really been a serious runner myself but I'm a big watcher of speedruns and I can say that, at least for me personally, "no major glitches" category runs are always more entertaining and rewatchable. Someone being really ridiculously good at the game is simply easier to appreciate than them being good at hitting glitches, even if triggering the glitch correctly is actually harder than playing normally.
This is such a great point. To most of the casual audience, it is much easier to grasp casual-style gameplay done in a fast way, rather than more complicated glitches which might not be as visually impressive at first. It is why, I believe, 2D platforms and other easy to understand games get over so well with audiences.
I don't mind glitches as long as it makes the speedrun entertaining for both runner and watcher. Probably some of the best glitches are in botw and they are fun to watch imo
same, I vastly prefer speed-runs to glitch-runs. Interesting as it can be to see someone slam a barrel into the floor to physics through a fence/wall/barrier, it's nothing like seeing someone use a games idiotic acceleration curve via simple bunny-hopping moving their character like a 3d-render-pinball in a maze built by sadists.
They check different boxes for me - there's just something so satisfying about watching a game shatter wide open. Glitchless/NMG is great to see the gameplay "as intended" taken to its best, but Any% is always interesting to see "just how low CAN you go?". It's like the difference between a musical vs. an interpretive dance piece. Both can be great fun to watch, just for different reasons. It's fine to prefer one to the other, but it's when folks try to assign value judgements to any% runs or presume that they aren't proper speedruns or whatever that's a harmful mindset to the various communities. I personally like a good mix of a glitched run which also keeps most of the intended gameplay in tact. DS1 hit the sweetspot for me. In this case, Pizza Swap just removes too much, so I would agree with you.
I was not expecting the glitch to be what it was AT ALL. I was expecting people found a way to get the effects of the Serpent Slayer Spear from Rykards boss fight to function everywhere, not turn it into an M4
@@chedddargoblin I mean the expectation was that the glitch just allow you to use that sword Rykards ability elsewhere. Not allowing it AND turn it into a rapid fire death ray.
I don't watch your speedrun content all that often, but I love these history of speedruns/glitches videos that you make, my favorite being the one you made on the Goughless Kalameet. This one was really cool though, mega high production value. I remember Distortion using it in his Randomizer to get through Moghwyn, and I was wondering what that glitch exactly was.
It would seem a little silly for people to denounce the pizza glitch when move swapping is a huge strat in DS1 and most speed runners in ER use the RKR with Sword of Night and Flame weapon art glitch as they are all similar in effect by using another weapons move set. It does look like a lot of fun to use though
You're right it is silly, eventually this will be used once they reach the top of current run limits. This is the normal cycle for speed runs if they are humanly possible. Rather then denounce it make a category for it... something speed runs do all the time for this stuff. Denouncing it is more being a spoiled brat rather then looking at how things will happen.
I think the biggest problem is that it just completely monotonizes speedruns as a result. It's so overwhelmingly powerful that it blows anything else out of the water, leading to mass exodus of runners.
I also think that if they're going to ban the pizza swap, they should also ban other glitches that allow you to delete bosses. So just have a glitchless category. For Any% and All Remembrances.

Who'd expect that bringing a heavy machine gun to a swordfight might be a tad OP? When it comes to speedrunning I for one prefer glitchless categories most of the time, speedrunners are the best of the best when it comes to mechanical execution. And a glitchless category lets those people shine while also proving to everybody that they could do it too without using the game against itself.

I'm glad that you firmly put forth the "There is no wrong way to speedrun" sentiment. Too many people (more than 0) discard entire categories or speedrunning as a whole "not impressive/fun" instead of "impressive/fun for a different reason". Heck, taking it one step further, that greater-than-0 crowd may throw tool-assisted runs in the "not impressive" category. Sure, it isn't a human specifically performing the inputs in real time. Regardless, the amount of in-depth knowledge, dedication, time, and effort required to produce such a work is astronomical, making it impressive for different reasons. As a bonus, it can provide a theoretical goal for speedrunners to aim for.
Absolutely agreed. TAS speedruns are not the same kind of speedruns that humans perform as a final product, but all the theorycrafting, glitchhunting and routing is shared. Hot take: you don't have to do specific glitches if you don't want to because speedrunning often times is a made up way to play a game to begin with. The only reason why categories exist is so people can say they are/were the best at something, and there will only be a handful of people that will actually get to say it. Yet the speed-runners only get the BIG response numbers from popular or generally well regarded titles. Elden ring or a Bethesda title is one thing but find an easy-complete glitch in barbies horse raising and barely anyone would be covering it.

I admire your in-depth research about what is happening. A lot of this goes on behind closed doors (discord) in insular niche communities so I appreciate you detailing how everything works.
Great analysis video! Really liked how you showed the controller inputs & such! Thanks for uploading! It does make me a bit worried about the future of Elden Ring speedruns....
I remember back in the days, DS1 was the game that first got me into watching a lot of speedruns and events like AGDQ/SGDQ. I also tried a few speedruns of the game myself, just for fun. Then that day came : the moveswap glitch was discovered. Since that day, every speedrun of the game started with 30min to 1h of grinding the BK halberd. It was a nightmare to watch, and you could feel the speedrunner losing their soul everytime the weapon didn't drop. It was a reset fest. I hope it changed now. So yeah, I totally agree with the fact that these types of glitches, either very boring to watch or that eliminate a whole part of the game are not really fun for the public. But as you said, they are on the other hand very interesting to discover and witness the first few times.
I never heard a speedrunner say "oh wow this glitch saves to much time". This is such a made up thing to say. If it says time its welcomed. Period. Unless its a glitchless run in general. Which is a different category anyway
funny to imagine, during their banishment from the lands between, the tarnished just happened upon an actual machine gun somehow and brought it back with them.
I’m surprised to learn you don’t use paddles rather than fiddling with rebinds. The strikepack eliminator is so cheap, and works so well, it really has democratized access to paddles.
i Just had this glitch happen to me a few minutes ago - got invaded while i was helping a host through a cave over in caelid - and then an invader came in - which proceeded to do this exact glitch to oneshot all three of us while we were still coming out of the main room of the cave .......
You're going to blow up soon in views and subs, these are amazing videos that explain Elden Ring's mechanics for the context of speedrunning well. My goodness what a glitch 🤣
anyone knowing eldin ring weapon swap glitch would understand it was only a matter of time. the range is due to the weapon is known to have an exstended hitbox in the god serpent fight, there is also a charm alowing you to get the effect outside the boss fight.
just FYI the bilibili video is not the first time this glitch was used, this glitch was called "pivot swap" in dark souls 3 and had tons of different applications. pvp'ers like buy_unids and SeriouslyCasual were experimenting with this swap within 1 month or so of launch, but did not realize that it should be used with shunter, and were using weapons like coded sword that still work for chainsaw but have a much smaller hitbox.
I think a "no pizza swap" category for the normal game, with a separate style of run that doesn't revolve around 'complete the game' where all glitches are used would be interesting, as a speedrun embiber but not a runner myself.
I love learning about the speedrunning aspect of games. This glitch feels a lot like the infinite sword glitch from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in terms of execution and it has become a staple skill for speedrunners. I agree, it's hard to agree upon a ruleset when games are now being patched and updated. If Elden Ring becomes a lasting speedgame (which it seems like it will given it has categories that can be completed in a fairly reasonable time), a definitive ruleset can be established once the devs officially end active support for the game.
It's kinda funny how W-Tech sort of exists in Megaman Legends (/Megaman 64) and Megaman Battle Network. By quickly stopping and moving, you bypass the "rapidness" of the buster.
this is the kind of glitch i'm glad to see the devs clean up. Bringing a minigun to a sword fight is only fun to watch for the first few seconds, after that all that's left is watching the chunks fall to the ground.
I never realized that the speedruning community would ever be mad at time saving glitches, that's very interesting Edit : Wow, okay now I see why. That looks so dumb
Not the first time either. One of the Golden eye games had a technique where looking at the floor made you walk faster, this made it boring for several of the speed runners who left, though I believe the community is still good. Similarly Pokémon speedruns have a glitch that let's you teleport from the first room to the end of the game. While I can't say anyone was mad, there's absolutely a speedrun category without it.

I might as well try this Pizza Swap for fun.
Thanks for the great video.
Keep up the great work.
Non-speedrunning community at any game launch: This game is riddled with bugs and glitches. And now MORE are being discovered? This was a waste of time and money.
Speedrunning community at any game launch: This game is riddles with bugs and glitches? And now MORE are being discovered? This is a hidden treasure!
Yet the speed-runners only get the BIG response numbers from popular or generally well regarded titles.
Elden ring or a Bethesda title is one thing but find an easy-complete glitch in barbies horse raising and barely anyone would be covering it.
Which is..... Good.
9:06 i dont know why that particular column was censored, but considering the width of the pixels, it must have been very lewd indeed.
Ah yes, the Regole Ancestor Spirit, everyone's favourite boss :D great video as always! Keep up the great work and the very nice entertainment ^^
your videos are always so impressive. highly informative, amazing storytelling, great editing, awesome visuals that clearly convey complicated concepts. thanks for setting such a high bar for this kind of content!
The Elden Gun.
Some people call the Whirligig saw a Pizza Cutter, I call it the The spinning oreo
The way it works and the fact that the sfx is a bunch of sparks makes me think that this is just, a gun.
9:06 wow I had no idea Misbegotten were that terrifying
This is an epic video.
Btw you're inspire me to created video on my channel like you do.
imagine being a boss and just chilling and then you see 7000 lasers heading your way
I never heard a speedrunner say "oh wow this glitch saves to much time". This is such a made up thing to say. If it says time its welcomed. Period. Unless its a glitchless run in general. Which is a different category anyway
i assumed this video would be about the zip glitch, but this is even better
Damn, hitting us with that Red Parallax at the start there, haven't heard that in ages and now i wanna listen to some 65dos
hoarah loux : "i have given thee courtesy enough."
tarnished : _spools up sword_ "have you, though?"
funny to imagine, during their banishment from the lands between, the tarnished just happened upon an actual machine gun somehow and brought it back with them.
I’m surprised to learn you don’t use paddles rather than fiddling with rebinds.
The strikepack eliminator is so cheap, and works so well, it really has democratized access to paddles.
With the new DLC weapons, I bet the community will find something definitely more broken than pizza swap. Pasta maker, perhaps? :v
i Just had this glitch happen to me a few minutes ago - got invaded while i was helping a host through a cave over in caelid - and then an invader came in - which proceeded to do this exact glitch to oneshot all three of us while we were still coming out of the main room of the cave .......
You're going to blow up soon in views and subs, these are amazing videos that explain Elden Ring's mechanics for the context of speedrunning well. My goodness what a glitch 🤣
i remember seeing this glitch in like one single video months ago and then literally no one talking about it after
anyone knowing eldin ring weapon swap glitch would understand it was only a matter of time. the range is due to the weapon is known to have an exstended hitbox in the god serpent fight, there is also a charm alowing you to get the effect outside the boss fight.
I love how all the bosses are like "Ow, ow, ow, okay, dude fucking stop that shit"
Now I want to learn this to surprise an invader in the middle of a fight
You can't.
dude the editing is CLEAN AF
4:15 Yooooo, my man Unids! He's ridiculously good with pivot swaps in DS3 c:
Ur the best man, I still enjoy your elder speedruns in ds1, thx for being a creator on yt.
speaking of glitch that background music tripped me out i thought my headphones were breaking
I wanna learn this to use it against the twin gargoyles boss fight.
Brave Tarnished...
Thy video editing befits a crown.
just FYI the bilibili video is not the first time this glitch was used, this glitch was called "pivot swap" in dark souls 3 and had tons of different applications. pvp'ers like buy_unids and SeriouslyCasual were experimenting with this swap within 1 month or so of launch, but did not realize that it should be used with shunter, and were using weapons like coded sword that still work for chainsaw but have a much smaller hitbox.
I upgraded my serpent spear to +10 for no reason like 6 months ago. Now I can try this lol.
You are 100% correct. This is why I briefly debated the potential DLC at the end of the video.
Not only a fellow Czech, an awesome speedrunner but also a CM Punk fan? Bro you are the best!
I seriously never realized I was supposed to use the serpent hunter during that boss fight....
Interesting choice of music, very spacey 🤣
its like people first used the tripod mounted gatling gun
great video! loved the breakdowns/explanations and this is easily 10/10 edit work
Thank you so much! I am glad the time I put into it showed.
Amazing content cata! I enjoy both your speedruns and your videos. The quality is top notch! Looking forward to more :)
It's kinda funny how W-Tech sort of exists in Megaman Legends (/Megaman 64) and Megaman Battle Network. By quickly stopping and moving, you bypass the "rapidness" of the buster.
I have to know how of all weapons, the wheel n dealer is the default
The production value on your video is insane man, thank you for the good work
this is the kind of glitch i'm glad to see the devs clean up.
Bringing a minigun to a sword fight is only fun to watch for the first few seconds, after that all that's left is watching the chunks fall to the ground.
I just wanna say, that's the most awesome edit i've seen in a complex video like this. 10/10 sir, you're insane :)
I did my speed run too. 2 years and 2 months. Thats some serious speed
i am still at malenia, i watched kai cenat beat elden ring and now i will try again
@@VycroYT I used Ruins Greatsword and mimic. It does massive damage and drops malenia down quite easy... with luck :D. I hade lvl230
I thought the title meant the spears move set within the boss arena. When I saw that he meant literally shoot I laughed.
can it still be done at 1.08.1????
I never realized that the speedruning community would ever be mad at time saving glitches, that's very interesting
Edit : Wow, okay now I see why.
If only we could find this dedication to glitch the simulation.
This is such a cool vid Cata - didn’t even know you did TH-cam clips. Subscribed!
"what happens when you put a heavy machine gun in medieval times?"
"well...."
The rate at which you get faster & better at video editing is inspiring. Great job bud keep it up
Great video cata! Always fun to get to know the ins and outs of a glitch. Also loved the prince of persia mentions ❤
thanks for the fun video, it was fun to watch even if it took me 5 days due to random reasons
I feel like serpent hunter should have been able to work against dragons too.
