Mazda MX5 Mk3/3.5/3.75 central locking problem. Removing driver door actuator.

  • Hopefully someone will find this video useful. It appears to be a common fault with the central locking in MX5s and I spent a long time searching before finding the problem.
I have shown how to remove the door and get into the actuator so it can be replaced. I was able to purchase a replacement from ebay for just £60.
I haven't taken the actuator out fully as I say was a bit tricky removing the shield covering one of the rods. Some sites may suggest removing the window pane but I managed to do it without.
If there are any further questions I will be happy to try and help where possible.
    Thanks for watching.

Good video with a couple of extras to add. I struggled to get the door card off after following the instructions, theres an extra fixing screw behind the top of the pull handle after prising the cover off from the bottom. Also seeing 2 rods from the locking unit replacement in the video concerned me, no problem though as found my 2014 only had one rod and the used 2007 part only had one too. Sorted

Did mine yesterday, this video was handy. Points i would add:
    1) get extra door card clips (the white ones) before you start. You WILL break some taking it off.
    2) rotate the clips off the rods with your fingers - it should take almost no force at all.
    3) be sure to check that the bottom of the actuator body is clipped over the metal tab on the door, before you refit the cover panel.

Thank you. Mine has failed in a different way (remote locking won't do the drivers door, but inside lock on drivers door does both). Either going to be a broken wire to the door or the electrical part of this actuator

Great video. I'm just about to do both of them on my car due to them failing.

Good video. Just to note these are £123 brand new from mx5 parts.

My passenger central locking not working. Is this what required to fix?

Got this exact same problem but struggling to find the part. Would you possibly be able to share exactly what you searched for or which item you purchased? 🙏🏻

Hi, so it's basically this item but for the driver side rather than passenger. ebay 332253213132. I ended up emailing a seller that was selling other car parts and they were extremely helpful and pulled the part from a vehicle they had and posted it to me.
