Before Ricky Dillard, there was Olanda. This guy was a true choir master. I hate I never got to experience this great choir. Thanks to Ricky Dillard for keeping this kind of choir directing showmanship going.
They were literally all out at the same time they all were up and coming from 85 on up they all blasted off in the 90s so that isn't actually accurate but Amazing how each have a different sound , I would argue Ricky was out first in the early 90s but like the rest of the brat pack and even John p kee them late 80s albums. Started to drop
Watching this video brings me to tears! 😭 I still can’t believe my brother and friend O’landa Draper went home to be with the lord at age 34!!! He was an extraordinary choir director! I can imagine where he and this choir would be today, if he was here!!! RIP, very much missed! 😭
Been watching videos and he reminds me of those God called so early. Olanda had It! I think God said, come on home, he was definitely on another level at his age. Im Thankful I got to be ministered by God's gifts to him@
The First Explosive Choir Directors . They thought he was nuts. But what you see now, 2018 started from this man. They all took from him. Rest In Peace O'Landa.
Rhodesia Kilson Yes they always called Ricky Dillard the choirmaster but little do they know actually let me rephrase that we have to be careful about putting titles and Gospel music because there is no better or wrong or right choir director Ricky Dillard was in his right and he was very very good and so was the late Olanda Draper. I only wish that the choir continue to legacy just like so many other gospel choir’s their founder past but they did not let them stop recording when Mr. Draper past they did one reunion album with some new songs after his passing and after that album in 2001 they haven’t recorded since
I miss O'landa so much, He has been a huge inspiration to me, He brought a new dimension of choir directing and vocal arrangement, He was truly ahead of his time, Such a innovator. RIP The M.C. Hammer of Gospel
Sigh...RIP O'Landa....I still have this video on vhs that I recorded from Bobby Jones back in the day, they CHURCHED after this song! The Associates was one of my favorite choirs!
OD is SO underrated..I don't think I've seen a praise break like this on Bobby Jones before. Where is his tribute in the stellar awards....did they forget about his contributions to Gospel music, especially choir directing..?
The Stellar Awards honored him this year. He received the James Cleveland Award and they did a tribute to him with the orginal members from the Associates. His sister and nephew accepted the award in his honor.
@Reginald Andrews I truly didn't like that! We need to to better in remembering those who have passed! I tell ya, if O'landa was with us today he'd be topping the charts along side his friends Ricky Dillard, Hezekiah Walker and Donald Lawrence, smh!
Boy oh Boy!!! Everytime I see Drape direct I smile!!! He was something else...Awesome Talent. And he was completely devoid of ego...One of the nicest people I've ever seen with that much talent.

Wow! I remember watching this performance on Bobby Jones in the mid 90's. Thank goodness for TH-cam! What a blessing it is to see it again after all these years!
erika, Yes, I sang with them until 1993 and so I knew it had to be 93 or before... We sang `Lift the Savior Up` countless times . Now that I`m thinking back, this was probably 1991 and probably shortly after we recorded it on our album called `Above and Beyond`.. If you ever run across any of the original recordings we did, grab them quick because they are hard to come by since they are long out of print.
Yes I`m up there ... My sister and I both are up there. I left in 93 but my sister stayed until the very end. O`landa passed in 98 and the young lady he was going to marry took over and kept it going up until around 2000 or 2001if I remember correctly . I remember they did at least one more album after O`landa passed. I heard a tribute was done at the Stellar awards last year honoring O`landa Draper and the Associates so it`s nice people still remember.
@mrm64 'Ya know what? I did find it on amazon.com. It's on a CD by Mark Hubbard and the United Voices of Praise. The name of the CD is "Trust in Jesus," and it was made around 1992. The name of the song I was asking about is called "I'll Bless You," and it was written by O'landa Draper. The CD doesn't allow single MP3 download/purchase, and the entire CD is like $70...unless you can convert the cassette to CD (and that's if you have it...)
Yeah me too! The old Bobby Jones shows was full os spirit and power, you couldn't WAIT to get infront of the tv to watch, 'cause you knew somewhere in the show SOMEboady was gone wind up GETTIN' IT!! lol.......now, well............ :-/
The one thing that I miss about Bobby Jones Gospel is it comes on @ 9:00 am and 9:00 pm on B.E.T⭐. And the people in the audience shouting, dancing and giving God the glory! Normally Beverly Crawford and Nuana Dunlap are the ones who start the praise party! Shame on you B.E.T network for stopping the saints from praising God!
@@Ike1702 I started to tape a few episodes of Bobby Jones Gospel and everytime I saw the New Life ladies have church my mom and I start feeling the spirit and whatever problems we had during the week were lifted because of God's grace and glory! 🙏
LOL I gotta go with O'landa. Ricky is a legend though, he clearly hold the best director title today, but if O'landa was here, I think he'd win. What's even cooler is when he was alive, him Ricky, Hezekiah Walker, and Donald Lawrence would tour together under the name "Brat Pack", so I can only wonder what it'd be like for the to be on stage together. If only the recording one of their concerts...
O'landa is one of the greatest choir directors of all time he is deeply missed.
Before Ricky Dillard, there was Olanda. This guy was a true choir master. I hate I never got to experience this great choir. Thanks to Ricky Dillard for keeping this kind of choir directing showmanship going.
Uhhhh Olanda wasn’t before Ricky. Their ministries operated at the exact same time.
They wasn't ready for O'Landa! LOL The best, the funniest, the most annointed choir director I ever saw.
Ricky started out as a gospel chorale they presented themselves more like group than a choir
Ricky and Olanda, were about the same time!! That era was a very hot time fir community choirs!!
Nothing like Olanda Draper and The Associates!!!
Another thing I miss about Bobby Jones Gospel....is the large curtains. I thought those were a better way to keep the audiences interested.

This guy was a pioneer in music - period!
Stellar Awards is nothing like it use to be!
When I met him in the late 70’s, he was directing choirs like this. He loved and enjoyed directing, writing and all things music.
luv Olanda Draper & Associated choir from home town Memphis Go Memphis hey
I always LOVED that bass line...don't hear that no more, but it was hot and CHURCHY!!
This is the reason I became a choir director
They NEED to honor him at the Stellar Awards.
O'landa shut it down at the end I miss him RIP

chris thomas You're right. It was the early part of the 90's.
