I retired and moved to Chiang Mai in October of 2021, in the middle of the covid lock down. Despite all the obstacles, Amanda managed the never-ending stream of forms, coordinated with the Thai Embassy, arranged my flight and quarantine in Bangkok, and when domestic flights were not immediately available, found transportation to Chiang Mai from Bangkok. Once in Chiang Mai, she helped me find the condo in which I am presently living. Amanda was amazing; she took a high-stress situation and eliminated almost all my stress. Those of you who have made that move to come live in Thailand know all the pieces that have to be arranged; add to that situation the waves of covid washing over the world and the uncertainty inherent in the move, and you will recognize the stress involved. Amanda made all the difference in keeping me sane.
And I came with some uncertainty--I had only been in Thailand once, and that was in Bangkok, not a accurate picture of what to expect in Chiang Mai. But I had done my homework and decided to move to Chiang Mai for the culture and for the health care. I wouldn't say that the health care is cheap, but it IS affordable, and it is as good or better than what I experienced in America. I find it better; I had Kaiser in California and found that corporate doctors did not want to listen, just prescribe. Here, the doctors seem to listen. And that is important to me since I am 72 with a couple of health issues.
It took me a couple of months to get settled and find my way around, but I find Chiang Mai everything I had hoped it would be.

Excellent video presentation, I might be interested in retiring to Thailand. The visa requirements would be the area that I would need help with. I have travelled to Thailand many times previous and find the culture interesting and the people generally kind. They really enjoy hearing a faring speak Thai.

UK residents are entitled to free high quality NHS (National Health Care) in all the UK's medical centres & hospitals. This includes seeing your GP right upto palative care & all manner of operations.
Unlike many worldwide countries, inc the U.S, health insurance cover is not needed by a UK resident living in the UK, unless one wants to go private. Going private can usually bring such things as certain care, operations forward...the patients medical issue being dealt with quicker.

I am from the UK and you do not get free healthcare in Thailand. If you mean that you get free healthcare in the UK by being resident in the UK, that is correct but all UK salaried employees and employers pay national insurance which for some, is over 10% of their gross salary and that is supposed to pay for "free healthcare".Not sure what relevance this has on retirees in Thailand but it is relevant for retirees in the UK.

      Yes, I meant the UK.
I understand about the national insurance, but that is not only for healthcare, but these days, whatever the government wants it to be for.
Very recent talks on this, proves such.

Great video! Amanda guided us through all the entry steps- after our Sandbox stay- Amanda again guided us through steps for our Retirement visa- Now moved into our condo and have been enjoying our new Thai life. My husband who had a heart valve replacement and aortic repair last year, just received his yearly checkup here in Phuket at a wonderful hospital- great doctor and staff- unbelievable full cardiac checkup-the cost was so incredibly low- I also recently went to the same facility for a pinched nerve in my back- again great staff and doctor- completely blown away at the low cost! Thanks Amanda!!

Living in Thailand between 1999 and 2001 I found that medical treatment paid out of pocket was a fraction of the cost in N. America. Have things changed so much?

    • @SettleinAbroad

'Low medical costs'? Hmmmm - Bumrungrad Hospital in BKK is one of THE most expensive hospitals I have ever been to!!! Went several times and, while the female doctors were very good, some of the male doctors seemed rather dismissive of foreigners - despite the huge fees being charged.... Of course there are much much cheaper local options, but you generally need to speak Thai there - tried some, no one spoke a word of English . Not so good if trying to sort out medical issues (might have the wrong leg chopped off....).
Anyway, Thailand is nice just not always as cheap as people expect.

    • @SettleinAbroad

I went to bumrungrad on a Saturday with a sever ear infection. Doctor, tests, medicines, all in, was just over $100. That was 10 years ago or so. I’m sure it’s gone up. Just had an ear infection, here in Las Vegas, where I have insurance that costs me $1000 a month. (Family of 3). Went to an evening urgent care, spent $200 with insurance.., medicines extra. I’m retired, thinking to move to Thailand with my wife and soon to be 4 year old son.
