- OK Guys, the Montreal Canadiens have officially signed 2022 first overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky.. to a deal which in my opinion was fantastic... Not only does Slafkovsky make less than the likes of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.. But this was just a low risk deal that the Canadiens will reap the benefits from down the road! Let's break this one down!
The articles that were in the video were screenshots from Habsfanatics.com, I highly reccommend you to check out this site for further Habs News,

No one is being greedy and we’re LOVING it
To be fair Montreal is proactively signing them, before, the height of their talents.. Toronto did the opposite.

if you have 19-24 years old and you want to extra millions to play else where go ahead.
I Think MTL want to build on a "franchise player base". Meaning these kids are more than happy to play for couple millions but they will WANT to play in MTL. Now thats the kind of kids we want. Rare these days but oh my will they get it back in deals and fan love.

This is how you rebuild properly. No fomo contracts and giving our youngsters a chance to prove their worth.
And none of that old shit.
teachnically he's rewarding Slav and over paying him to commit long term. it's a high risk/ high reward for the club but a real show of good faith to the player. the players around the league will see how Montreal treats it's players now with Kent and it will be effective in free agency. No more BS like with MB.. that dude was a real shyster.

Here since Slaf joined Habs, now I am Hab fan. Greetings from Slovakia.
F: Slafkovsky, Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Newhook, Demidov, Hage, Roy, Beck, Mesar, Kapanen, Koivu
D: Guhle, Hutson, Xhekaj, Reinbacher, Mailloux, Struble, Harris, Barron, Koyushkov, Engstrom
G: Fowler, Primeau, Dobes
The oldest player in that group is Suzuki at 24. THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT mes amis!
Right now I think Florian has a better chance than Koivu of making the team
No love for Samuel?
I don't think Koivu is making the team, maybe on a 4th line in 3 years. He'll end up in Laval probably.
Don’t forget Volokhin
24 is the magic number. I was the 24th to like this comment and guess what else will be the 24th for the Habs..? You better believe it.
Kent Hughes contract negotiation skills need to be studied, and the best part of the contract is you can see who watched slaf last season and who didn't 😂
its guinus
Actually, no. I don't want any other GMs to pick any negotiation skills. Let them overpay!😂
Caufield is more like an espresso shot lol he's a bundle of energy and you gotta love the little dude. Great contract for the venti lol
coffee line is excellent. considering his number is 20 and a large coffee is a vinti
that's a good point as well..
I like that.
Not Caufield being called an extra small coffee😂😂 Don't do my man like that😂😂
Could NOT be more on board!
I'm POSITIVE that SLAF is gonna show everyone he's worth every PENNY!
And, I NEVER get tired of seeing Shane Wright's Boohoo-I'm-hurt face. lmfao
It seems like KH is taking the rebuild exactly the way it should be taken. Small steps. Small but progressive. The more time you put into it, the better the team, and the LONGER they stay competitive. I eventually want a HABS team that contends for a long time. And I don't really care how long it takes to get to that point. To be honest, I'm having a lot of fun watching the rebuild. I've never been so invested in the prospects pool and watching our players in the AHL, Juniors, Europe...etc. Having a lot of fun. It's an exciting time to be a HABS fan right now.
The coffee line 😅
def my favorite channel when it comes to NHL. i love the way you doing it. Junkie way lol.
Cheers from Slavkovsky's land
I'm so proud of you for using the correct adjective Slovak and not Slovakian. It's such a rarity to come across someone who uses it correctly. 👏🏽
I have been educated, I will remember this!
I didn't know there was a preference, I thought it was like Pole VS Polish or Brit VS British, both being normally acceptable.
@@jacp5628 Slovakian is grammatically acceptable but the preferred name should be always the one that is derived from the official name of the country which is Slovak Republic not Slovakia. It's like with Czech Republic, you all say Czech not Czechian. The difference being they started using the shortened term Czechia pretty recently and no one thought of starting using the adjective Czechian which sounds absolutely terrible if you ask me.
More than a great deal, that Slaf contract reinforces the team-friendly culture set up by Suzuki and Caufield with their own contract, and using Suzuki as a bench mark. I think this bodes well for future signing as well, because each player that buys into that culture will reinforce it. Now, someone who wants to make more needs to argue that they are more valuable to the habs than their captain, Caufield and Slaf.
Polar opposite of the leaf's core 4, taking up 50% + of their team's cap between them.
well said. he's also commiting to them long term and giving them a LOT more than they are worth TODAY showing he's invested in them. even though it's going to pan out in spades later like you said, it's the buying in and culture of the team that is really impressive.
another fan from Slovakia reporting for duty 😄
WE SLOVAKS LOVE UR VIDEOS RAAARH
I’m 60 and a life long Habs fan and feel it’s the the best managed Canadians team I’ve known. Excited for the future
Before the Habs go heavy after a free agent or two, the talent coming up should push out the replacement level players, and the dead weight gets offloaded one way or another. A year or two for that. On paper they're starting to look closer to a .500 team than bottom 5.
I think the expectation is to be a playoff contender this year. You have to put players in a pressure situation at the NHL level.
Those three contracts are just perfect. Unlike the Leafs' four giant waste-of-money players.
But nobody on the Habs are on Matthews, Marners and Nylanders level, soooo
@@adamCarter20
Took Nylander 7 seasons to be over a point per game player. I'd say Suzuki is doing pretty well for himself so far.
@@adamCarter20 I think while that is true, it's been proven time and time again that their "out score them" philosophy doesn't work in the playoffs. a lot of their cap is invested in 4 players and it's kinda hurting them I think.. I don't follow the Leafs so that's an asumption, but finishing high every year gives them a weaker prospect pool to fill those gaps with ELC players to get under the cap I would asume.. and generally it's known you build from the net out.. which I really think Toronto didn't do. I could be wrong though.. can't argue with the results.
@cartorius If it's known that you build from the net out, then Habs have failed, cause just like the Leafs, right now Montreal doesn't have a top goalie they can rely on, we can only HOPE Fowler can one day be that guy, amd if he isn't, then we gotta hope and pray our prospects on defense become absolute studs.
@@adamCarter20
Pretty early to say they've failed honestly.
Habs are right smack in the middle of a rebuild; the core is still extremely young. Fowler, Miller, Volokhin are not even 20 yet. Dobbes is 23 and played his 1st season in the AHL last year. Vrbetic is probably the least promising of the bunch and he's 21. Then there is Croteau who I don't know much about, he's only 20 as well playing NCAA.
2:00 Caufield is actually closer to Suzuki's height than Suzuki is to Slafkovsky, 3 inches vs 4 inches.
I find it so funny when people complain that we never do anything on July 1st. Did these people forget about the Karl Alzner experience?
Given how much the cap is expected to rise over the next decade, and how Slafkovsky and the team at large is expected to improve over the same timeframe, we could be looking at the biggest steal of a contract in the NHL in a few short years.
Ah I see you’re a Canadians TH-camr. I first saw your videos in the playoffs with the oilers. I’ll probably still watch the Canadians content because I love your videos. Love ya man

Sweetest thing with this contract extension is seeing Leafs fans comment it as an overpay, i guess they tend to forget their GM gave away over 4M doll hairs to John freakin Klingberg and the same amount over 3 years to Ryan playoffs Houdini Reaves.

Great signing. Still on entry level for this season
Great episode bro ,i totally agree
The only free agent besides Monaghan I would have considered was Kane. Second line with Caulfield and Dach and PP weapon. I hope Kovacevich wanted NJ and Kent treated him well. Good soldier and solid Dman
Love the coffee line 😂😂😂
I remember Rick calling it the SML line Small medium & Large!
It's a great salary structure to be setting up, but we need this core to take a step forward. Eventually we will need to sign or trade for some talent and if we want those guys to fall in line with our salary structure we need to be a perennial contender.
I'm really excited that Slaf is locked in for the next 8 years (at least) but I'm just
gonna say that I'm really gonna miss having Honda Civic on the team.
I wonder how much Demigod will ask in a few years?
10 mil
The coffee line. Nice.
Good news! Just got my brother and myself Slaf jerseys
I got something I wanted to get your take on. Which 3 prospects are better, Slaf, Reinbacher & Demidov or Shane Wright, Mishkov & let's say Parakh? How about head to head, Mishkov versus Demidov? If you were to rate those 6 picks, the 3 they took & the 3 they could have taken, in what order would they be. Thanks, love your content.
Don’t forget little Jack eye. He’s at the development camp and can’t wait for training camp to see what he brings.
Kent out here Building a culture of "we are in this together" love it. if he had bridged him for $5m we'd be paying him 10m or more at 25 for fear of UFA. smart play paying him handsomely for the player he is now and locking it in for 8 years.
Love from Slovakia! ♥
Le the camaraderie on this team, the complete opposite of toronto
I’m not a Habs fan, but I was astonished by how many mainly outsiders gave the Slaf signing harsh criticism.
The whole league is in for a rude awakening if they don’t realize Slaf is breaking out, and it started mid season this past year.
The salary structure started by Suzuki is going to get us the cup. The draft capitol and assets we have are insane.
Hopefully this trend continues with all the players buying in. It's a great signing by Hughes, man this habs team is going to be something to watch in 3 years
Great deal I'm really looking forward to the 25-26 season this team is shaping up nicely
No point splurging on UFA's, we don't' even know if the team is at the point where we make the playoffs, even less how far they would go. You pay for UFA's when your team has shown they can make it or just need 1 last piece to make it. They did EXACTLY what I expected them, kept cap space. They'll play this season, see how far from the playoffs they are, try to unload some of our bad contracts via paying some cap, try to acquire young players or draft picks, and keep rebuilding along. If we DO reach the playoffs, they'll be more aggressive down the line, but now is not the time.
I wouldnt be surprised he does a 1pt per game season if paired with Demidov in a few years....this would become one of the top contract in the NHL, easily.
100 👍 in under 12-min..!! Pretty nice!!!
I enjoy watching the like button get drop kicked.
Very Happy man wow with CoCo and Nico on the firts line lets gooooo
Looks like a good time to be a Habs fan.
The funny thing is that if Slaf perform at the level of the second half of the season, no progress, his contract will be just Ok. A slight overpay, but not much. It's wonderful! I was expecting 9ish.
habs making great moves my friends!
It will be a steal of a deal in two to three years!! Great job Junkie.
Better get ready to pay demidov after his entry level. Finally we have an elite scorer(potentially)
Amazing start of an era so far, with what seems like a great salary cap situation, meaning, we could actually keep all our young guys as they become stars.
im super super stoked!!!
Love it, locked down, bit of a discount from Slaf, building a cup team the right way. Now lock down Guhle and Arber 👍🏼

Where would he play? Second line?
@@Ogilla I’d say yes 1a 1b with Suzuki. He could play with Dach and newhook/Roy/ Demidov
Screw that!
Monahan for 1 year would've been nice, could go get another 1st rounder at the trade deadline
I don’t hate the logic behind the deal, i just fear that Montreal will end up like Ottawa, because this is exactly what Ottawa did.
Betting on the future projections of 1 or 2 guys is one thing, but OTT really pushed the note and so far no collective results and mixed individual results.
Suzuki is worth his contract so far, Caufield isn’t that far off just needs to be 35 goal+, Slaf played well for 50 games, Guhle is next and afterwards there is a bunch more, i simply hope the criterias to open the bank won’t be lowered any further.
Congratulation to us.
Here comes the youthful revamp of the NHL. Much needed and incredibly exciting. 24/25 is gonna rock!!
At least, that s what we hope
The butterfly affect is crazy, if Dach never got injured, then slaf wouldn’t have been on the 1st line the whole season and maybe would’ve never gotten this contract
I call it the CSS Line ...
Cascading shots with Style into the net and goals being added to the score Sheet!
It’s being compared to the Avs signing of Mackinnon for 6.3 mil in 2016.
Great deal Hughes is awesome
The slaf-cauf-zki line
Just saying hello.
-Bluenoser friend
I'm glad for Sean but glad we didn't sign him either. More than signing 1 guy (Slaf), they secured a whole line or at least a binome for what, 6 years or more? That's how you build team spirit. Imagine in 7 years, they're not gonna want to play with anyone else than their besties.
Hughes has shown that if you sign with Montreal you buy into what they are building, you will get paid but you won't get overpaid and if you don't like that , fine montreal will move on. Staying away in free agency was actually really good , what contract that was signed today would you have liked in Montreal? I don't see any . Can't add on d , we have to many young players coming up , up front all the top players signed were either to much term or to much money . Trades have been a strength of hughes , he's not done yet it's literally just the start of the off-season
Free agents after next season is insane
Signing bonus ? Production bonuses ?
Great signing! Now if only he could lock in Ghule...
