As a single mum I pity the woman who is being married into the house for the purpose of being useful as a mother... he really should have gotten both: a wife and a nanny
I have a feeling they’re going to change a good chunk of Eloise’s story, to make Phillip a little more likeable. I also agree this Eloise doesn’t sound like the Eloise we know. I’m curious to see what changes they make.
I would love to make him miss Marina and him to become depressed and wanting a mom for his kids to bring them the Happiness Marina and him gave them, which he can't find in himself since she died - same mood, much more likable. A bit like George and Charlotte.
They changing all the stories to eliminate doubt that the pairings love each other. Like Anthony and Kate wasn’t forced to marry each other or Simon not leaving Daphne for 2 months without speaking to her. They took away Kate being traumatized by her mother passing so her and Anthony doesn’t form that trauma bond they had in the book. Or the fact Daphne and Kate isn’t quite insecure like they were supposed to be.
What I will say in defense of Philip (though not as an excuse to wipe all his flaws away) is he actually is one of the more realistic male love interests to me in regards to how he responds to trauma. I’ve known plenty of men whose baseline as a father was “I won’t hit my kids the way my dad hit me” and they thought that made them a good father because that was their only frame of reference. I don’t like everything Philip does but I actually love the journey he goes on in realizing there is so much more to being a father and how he decides by the end to play a more active role in his children’s lives.
1:32:23 I gotta say, I think that line from Colin could potentially be SO SUPERIOR IN DELIVERY _after_ his marriage to Pen rather than before it. Because he'll have already had that journey of realizing his feelings for a friend turned romantic, so instead of seeming hypocritical, it would seem like a genuine bonding moment where Colin tries to help someone through what he went through. AND it would be HILARIOUS, given how Michael is not anything like 'oblivious' to his feelings for Francesca. I really hope that scene makes it in the show! (Love your accent, BTW!)
Eloise's book is simultaneously my favourite one and also the most infuriating one. I appreciate the fact that Sir Philip is an absolute awkward idiot who just goes to tend to his plants any time he can't handle a situation over being just another scoundrel rake, raking up the place and gathering STDs. Which at times is absolutely hilarious. This book is definitely the funniest one of the bunch. The confrontation with the brothers literally invented comedy. Imagining that giant man (who apparently used to wrestle) just letting himself get dunked on by the 3 brothers (while Colin whines about missing Pen and being hungry) is really fuckin funny. And in other times this can get a bit infuriating because these books don't really like to focus on overtime development of characters gradually changing their behaviour. Which would really just improve this as a ROMANTIC story. I also wish they just had MORE time to get to know eachother before marrying eachother. (which I'm assuming is something the show will do, because i expect them to start writing to eachother during season 4) Phillip's socially awkward, can't string his feelings together in a sentence ass paired with Eloise's confrontational, literally talks circles around him ass creates a very interesting dynamic where i think it really gives both characters room to grown and match eachother's pace. And in really envisioning the show taking the really good parts of their story and expanding upon them. I get the feeling that the show, to match this story more with show Eloise's personality, might have her become something like a governess of the Crane estate. That's an idea that that show played around a bit with Kate, who Eloise connected with. That's also one of the jobs women could actually have at the time and something Eloise might want to pursue, rather than going there in hope of matching with Philip. It would also make sense with him wanting someone to take care of his children. I feel like that scenario will just make more sense of some things while letting others play exactly the same way. It also leaves them on a starting ground where it's a bit less confusing to watch Philip be emotionally stunted about liking Eloise and it will make him seem less like he is ONLY in this for convenience. Because if his children needing a caretaker is the setup, that being an actual JOB rather than them GETTING MARRIED being treated as a business transaction, gives room for the actual romance to feel more organic. Think. The Sound of Music or The Nanny.
Your strength of character is so admirable 😭😭 thank you so much for not only reading all 3500 of those pages but also explaining them to us all so kindly. The bridgerton fans owe you a great debt
Eloise story in this book is just SOOOOOOO damn lame, let's be honest. Hope they change this for the TV adaptation. She deserved better than being a cheap nanny for a nerdy widower not really interested in humanities lol
I've been checking your page 3 to 4 times a day for this video and it took TH-cam an entire hour to let me know what was uploaded. Thank you so much I feel relieved now lol.
Loving your recaps! You're so animated and lovely to listen to, thank you for making these! I kindof want to point out that from your recap Phillip reads incredibly autistic coded (hyperfixation of botany, not good with social conventions yet has strict rules he needs to live up to (children need a mother, I need a wife), has a very hard time expressing himself verbally, adheres to strict code of right and wrong (marrying Marina because it seemed like the right thing to do), bad with confrontation and unexpected changes, etc. I'm a bit apalled at the judgement in some of the comments.Just because someone experiences the world differently and does not fit the idea of a perfect gentleman does not mean that he is lesser than. It seems like the most Eloise thing in the world that she'd be able to look past that and see him for who he is. It's a bit sad so many people listening to this just...Write him off.
You should do the entire plot of Anne Rice's vampire chronicles next because there's also a tv adaptation currently airing (plus the old movies) and the plot gets crazier and crazier the more you read
ur videos literally need to go viral! and i trust they will u put so much work into them and thoughts and notes and everything!? u r so talented thank u for ur hard work
Eloise's book is my favorite so far. (Haven't read H and G's books yet) I loved sir Phillip since he was so different from the rest of the male leads. He is not a rake, isn't a walking std. He is just a nerdy guy who doesn't know how to express himself properly. The tropes in this book also reminds me of the bunch of historical fantasy romance webtoons I have been consuming. My only main issue is that we didn't really get to see their letters to each other. I wish that part was longer.
I love these videos!! Was so excited to see this one come out. My main feedback is that I think colour pictures would be much more visually interesting, the black and white makes my eyes unfocus!

Counterpoint: John Boyega as Michael. He’s actually British I could totally see him slaying this role and he deserves to be acting in bigger things. Also height wise I feel like he’d suit the actress who plays Francesca AND he’s believable as the cousin to the actor they cast as John.
@@S0LAVELLANHELL it is when they are basically making it a new story. It is based on a book and this is just like making it a fanfic. They could have done this with any other character Eloise for example cuz she is a feminist and her love interest is horrible. But Michael was love. Also francesca book is majority about her fertility so unless this Michaela can give her a baby🙄 her relationship wouldn't even be accepted. Also Michaela as a girl won't be able to inherit. Yes so it is that deep. I suggest you go read the book first before commenting on others.

Maybe it’s my abandonment issues, but Michael sounds like a complete tool. reading about him would probably be so frustrating. ugh. It’s a trope I hope wouldn’t fly today.
Hate it! You want diversity I'll show you how you could have down that : Imagine - Philip being Asexual, and him being an honorable man (since he married his brother's widow-like betrothed) uses Polin's marriage as a congratulatory entrance back in societies gossip and knowing Eloise's ruin in whistledown as a way to send condolences and back and forth on letters.... but since he is so socially awkward, he could have tasked his maid to do that and the maid would do that gladly in his voice.... Eloise comes... the situations happen but the big reveal happens for her that the maid is the one who happens to love her and they become a couple and grapple their points in society... Philip proposes another lavender marriage to save Eloise, get a mother to his children and the maid / governess could have their happy ever after with his title as a cloak. Eloise also gets her spectrum of growth through this that she is so not intune with her surroundings / feelings that she did not realize that she could have been Panromantic. Make ELOISE Pan, the governess character Demi lesbian and Philip Asexual. 3 spectrum people already feel seen. Fix Micheal's red flags - remove India torture angle since Kate is also in this world so him being a colonizer part won't work.. but show his other mopy aspects... He is already a rake so humanize and demonize that using bdsm (consensual style done tastefully and not the 50shades style). You could have had an even bigger wicked style to this season and show Fran being charged up. You retain his loser lover persona, his grappling at the seams and dying for Fran while Fran doesn't go 'meh' on the kisses to John. So Netflix f'ed up real hard.
I like these plot breakdowns, but I didnt enjoy any of the Bridgerton books when I read them. I didnt enjoy the netflix series very much either. That being said there are plenty of period adaptations and bodice ripper genre works I absolutely adore ... so thats not the issue. Out of all the Bridgerton series and QC so far this third one def shapes up to be most entertaining. But I didnt think Pens glow up went far enough. And I think the womanizing Colin in the series is super cringe. But I like the dynamic in Francescas relationship. And the story surrounding the Featherington sisters was amusing.
So are they taking Michael out of the show? At the end of season three John introduces us to his cousin, Michaela Stirling so…..changing completely? Or are we gonna have another gay angle?
They are gender bending. Michael is now Michaela so that kinda obviously makes Francesca LGBTQ which I don't mind honestly. And yes it is confirmed. Even the author has allowed them to make this change.
Why the ship is call Polin ? Like Penelope and Colin shoud been name Pelin cause like 2 letters from her 3 from him, not almost the full name of Colin but instead of C is P for Penelope. Like it s so ichy for me that is almost like only his name in the ship.... Pelin for the win
Eloise’s story was so cringey to me when I read it I like this recap so so much better 🫶 Also,, love this cast choice for Michael bur I was envisioning Kedar Williams Stirling (from netflix’s Sex Ed)
They could’ve taken Phillip and made him into a mother overburdened with raising kids alone in a man centric world (like feathrington), but they took our poor Michael out 😢 RIP Michael
The exchange between Eloise and Phillip in letters was so "With a comma after dearest" coded
it changes the meaning!
He didn’t need to marry again, he just needed to not be cheap and employ a live-in nanny 😭
the point is most nannies won't last in their house
As a single mum I pity the woman who is being married into the house for the purpose of being useful as a mother... he really should have gotten both: a wife and a nanny
He did have a live in nurse maid but wanted someone to run the estate which not a task you trust with a nanny.
He just needed Nanny McPhee for like a week 😭
The press tour for eloise's season is gonna be so funny just claudia being hilarious and phillips actor will just...be there
she's everything, he's just ken!

I LOVE YOU
Sur Phillip is mortal enemy
I like your Elder Wand 😊wink
Michael sterling you mean michaela stirling💀💀💀
I literally just finished part 2!!!!! Kismet!
Franseca's theme should be "The Bolter" by Taylor Swift. 😂😂
YES 100%

Whose here knowing Michael is a Mikaela
Yessss
I want the vampire diaries
Eloise’s story was so cringey to me when I read it I like this recap so so much better 🫶
Also,, love this cast choice for Michael bur I was envisioning Kedar Williams Stirling (from netflix’s Sex Ed)
They've switched the gender of Michael Stirling in the TV adaptation! I'm not sure how I feel about this change.
Yayyyyyy
They could’ve taken Phillip and made him into a mother overburdened with raising kids alone in a man centric world (like feathrington), but they took our poor Michael out 😢 RIP Michael
All I’m gonna say is GAY ELOISE PLEASE!!!!!
Really hate they ruined Fran’s season now. I’m no longer excited. Hate Jess as a show runner
