That was seriously creative using the bearing splitter in the polar together to get that bearing on, I've never seen that before!

I built 40-60 GM truck front diffs 5+ years ago as a tech for a GMC/Cadi dealer so everything is done with threaded ends and not shims and now that I own a 2013 mustang I want to go to a 3.73 and I feel like with your videos as a refresher I should be able to accomplish this no problem. Saving myself 225 bucks for a shop install. So thank you!

I'm doing my 2003 GT with 3.73 because the factory gears and or bearings are whining/whirring under acceleration only. Shops where I live charge $650 and up and after visiting a couple there is no way I would let them near my car. I have nightmares about them mixing up the bearing caps and just tossing back all the factory shims and calling it a day. I have the tools, a Ford Racing Gear set and install kit and understand the process so hopefully with some care and attention to detail it will be fine. I'm removing the complete axle so I don't have to get my 57 yo a$$ under the car lol ! How did your gear swap turn out?

If you put the pinion in a freezer and heat the bearing in an oven at 350° for 20 minutes or so, it will drop on effortlessly.

Is the crush sleeve really a one time use item? It’s going to cost me 40$ I really don’t want to spend that if I don’t need too

If you did such a beautiful rebuild, why not spring for CL3Z-4026-E and torsen limited slip and make it a real 4wd?

What part number and where did you find the seals that are on the sides where the CV shaft slide into?

If you skip the test fitting, how do you know what thickness shims to use on the pinion? Is there just a recommended size for that setup? Also does it affect the tooth pattern at all? I'm just doing a bit of research because I need to rebuild my m86 LSD.

Put the pinion in the freezer and the bearing in boiling water and it will fall right on. No special tools needed.

Can you do that for the ring gear and differential too?

@@blakenorman4822 I've never heard of boiling water, but I suppose the subsequent oil bath would replace any moisture. I would probably spray the hell out of it with water displacer like WD 40 just to be sure no rust snuck in there. Freezing the inside piece and heating the outside piece in the oven is the most common method.
