haha I may have exaggerated a bit there but back when it first landed it was something I’d never seen before. It wasn’t full of minis either. It was 95% cardboard paper and plastic. A true beast. Thanks for watching Ian!
This is gonna be a blast. I'm obviously biased given Gloomhaven is all I upload but I think a lot of people assuming this is ONLY Gloomhaven lite ... those vets should get their hands on this, even if the first several scenarios are going to be absolute cake. The lore, new classes and new scenarios beyond that point are well worth it.
I hope I made it clear enough (multiple times) that this is the same game but adds layers at a more digestible rate. So your head isn’t in the rulebook the whole time. It’s never been easier to play Gloomhaven now. They did a bang up job. 😄
i love that this is happening as i only cover retail/straight from publisher on my channel so this is an important game for me as i had issues with the size of the base game and thus made me choose to stick with digital version until now

wait so it doesn't come with ANY map tiles at all? I though this was a standalone that at least has SOME of those connectable dungeon tiles that you can use to build a location... I see plenty of tiles in the book but where are the actual times to build those encounters?
@@RollingSolo how do you use it from a book though? You can't just put it on the table and use like a mat right? I mean it has spoilers on the pages and sometimes stuff that isn't there from what I can tell because it's giving an example of combat or something
Actually, some fully cooperative games don't work solo such as The Grizzled. All of the players are working together, but they have cards they are not allowed to share with each other. I think all fully cooperative games without hidden information can be played solo. Although, the Haven games have a slight amount of hidden information because you don't know what your teamates will do.
It’s true. They may play solo but may not be good. The hidden information is the only thing that throws a wrench into the equation, you’re right. Most co-op games don’t use hidden information as you’re trying to work together.
Sure did! I’m not sure but it does mention you can just use a notepad instead of the stickers. Or as I have done in the past.. laminate them, cut them out and use sticky tac.
I am getting ready to paint this game and am going to play 2 handed. Going to be using Voidwarden. Any suggestions on which other one makes the best companion for her?

That’s a great question. I know that there are a bunch of third party apps that are quite useful. I would imagine it will become compatible as the characters are cross comparable abs the campaign is a legit prequel to Gloomhaven.
Play solo with only two! No way man, I'm rocking four characters with the monster level up one. I'm feel like I'm pretty experienced having completed Gloomhaven and half of forgotten circles before having a Gloomhaven melt down/overload, so much work when you is doing all by yourself. Would love to play the digi version sadly me pc is feffed. New content with Jaws tho, ah yeah I am chuffed, game on. 😃
It’s going to become the go-to entry point for Gloomhaven for sure. Being that it’s the prequel it also just makes sense. Plus a better learning experience heading in. 😄👍🏼
Thanks Adam! It's so nice to see an insert for once. I wish they'd dome something for sleeved cards to fit (I mean - they have 'cause the slots are wide enough, but the thickness is going to be an issue, I'm afraid. Still liking it a lot, and there seems to be enough room for custom inserts to be made for said cards. :-) I'm still not sure I'll buy this since my group is half way through the Gloomhaven campaign. After playing for 2 years. I dare not say I hope we can make it through quicker for the rest 'cause I feazr that won't happen... :-)) I guess it is the curse of having a great group of 4 playing together. ;-) It's probably got that in common with keeping an RPG group together year-over-year. I'm kinda bummed there are duplicate standees compared to the base game, but the game really looks like a great way to get people into Gloomhaven overall. Now of course I wish we had the same scenario book for Gloomhaven... Someone has to be making it, right? right? ;) The minis look better than the original game indeed (except nitpick on the face under the hat needing actual features :-9 but overall they make more sense, at a ghance, they don't have "base on a base", etc. Just wish the bases weren't hollow, but it looks like too much to ask from games nowadays. ;) Have a nice day!

Great video! I saw Target had some copies according to their online site, but when I went to the store that said it had copies there didn't have any and I talked to a salesperson and they went into the back and couldn't find it. :(
I was able to get one at my Target, but the first person I asked couldn't find it. I asked another person an hour later and they found 2 copies stuff in a corner in the back. They received the copies on the 15th. It might be worth asking again.
Fancy gold leaf “unboxing jaws of the lion”intro….but they cut the actual unboxing from the video?!? They even cut the unboxing of the smaller boxes. :facepalm:
So, I know you said you could play this as an expansion to Gloomhaven, but for clarity for my oh-so-fragile brain, could you, in theory, play these 4 characters in a classic campaign and vice versa?
I've been looking forward to this one. I wonder how parent proof this game is as I'm looking for something new and "simple" that can be swapped around with Pandemic during lockdown (irony?). Pandemics fine of course but I want to play something else dangit, and my other games have been... a challenge to attempt to teach them (maybe I'm a bad rules teacher).
@@RollingSolo I just watched your playthrough and I like how in your face the teaching system is that I might just give it a try (worst case scenario is I have something to ease me into real Gloomhaven once the Kickstarter wave 1 is delivered). The problem I'm facing is that they simply won't read anything. I even had trouble teaching them Pandemic at first, my mums idea of a boardgame is basically Shoots and Ladders :/

Things which involve spoilers might be added to the side of the book for instance. The map book shows exactly what it wants to be seen to the players!

This is what i have read. BUT you would not get any special outcomes to road or city events for certain characters in your party if you did this.

This is a great one. The cards themselves have text for the first scenarios to hammer home the core rules. It’s a high recommendation from me.
