While this is a great love story, it's also the most powerful female role I know of in cinema. She is a super tough, brilliant, beautiful woman who fights her way up from Korean slave girl to Chinese Empress, destroying everyone who opposes her.
We need more of these. A powerful female who supports a male and a male protecting his lady.

I so much agree, far too much emphasis is to play hard to get and hide and seek and there are so many mistakes that come from that (we all love the game but sometimes you lose the thing you most love because of it) sometimes the other person feels that their love is only one sided because the other is playing hide and seek so they silently walk away heartbroken. or as in the drama the empress spends so long not expressing her love that she has caused the emperor distress and also if she had express her love earlier their love would have been at a different level and would have been far richer and now she has left it right to the point of them never expieriencing the richness they could have had before the emperors death.
I have seen this drama more than ten times...I know every episode so well...it's one of the best Korean drama I have ever seen and the fascinating part is that I don't get tired of it, each episode is extraordinary ..
My heart, feel empty after finished this series. I just want to rewatch it again... I really miss them..:''(((

I think Tal Tal did love her, more like a younger sister than romantically. And even Yang trusted him and looked up to him like a older brother.

honestly though i'm curious who she loved most... tho i personally cheer for ta hwan and nyang i can't deny the signs she loved wang yu also after she married the emperor.( esp when she was crowned empress she cried her eyes out looking at wang yu...) but on the other hand most of her actions do prove she love ta hwan... it's puzzling.

Empress ki is the best historical drama ever.The characters of Ha ji won, Joon moo and ji chang wook are best. The love between Wangu and syngyang is endless also the deep love of Taghon towards syngyang is heart breaking. This trio sad love story is unforgettable. The deaths of Wangu and his friends and taghon are saddest. Expression and look of Ha ji won is amazing. In short this drama is masterpiece. Supporting actors are also well especially Tal Tal, Bayan and Tanasri .Empress ki story is unforgettable
late bloomer here. I've only discovered this drama just recently, but I'm glad I did. One of the best dramas ever. This couple breaks my heart every time. so so so beautiful.

A commercial aired in Korea after Empress Ki ended which showed The Emporer and Nyang, reincarnated and living in modern day and were reunited. However, the writers of the drama had nothing to do with it.

Nothing can beat Ta Hwan's devotion towards Yang. She was his lord. And maybe that is why no matter how many more series I watch, books I read, I can never ever move on from this story.

But I don't think I would have been this emotionally invested and scarred for Paeya, if anyone else had played this character.
The Emperor's love for Yang was so so so real that I could feel it in my bones, that was the intensity with which JCW acted.
His work in this show deserves awards and praise beyond words can express.
He loved her a lot he had a difficult childhood because of the prime minister always wanting him dead. When he opened his eyes he saw her , she was strong it made him feel protected and secure. I feel she used him for power and revenge and he knew it and allowed her because he loved and needed her .
she did use him, but she also loved him. The love was in her her actions, how she stayed with him and served him until the day he died.
