    Detailed Plans for both Large & XL Egg setups are now available on my website for this table. They are not free, but they are complete and will save you time and money. I spent many hours on the 20+ pages of plans to help you get it right the first time. More information can be found at... www.searedandsmoked.com/diy-big-green-egg-table/

    Hey! Built your table! Went with a few adjustments and did a drawer underneath the egg, cabinet doors to the left and 2 drawers on the right side. Meant to send you a photo of the final product but your website didn’t take photo uploads. Thanks for the plans, getting tons of compliments!

    Nice helpful video. I think I would have built drawers on one side instead of doors and things from the container store.
    And, because I'm a bit insane or obsessive, I would have grooved out a little hardwood stile to cover the end of the exposed edge on the plywood divider where the pizza stone and peels are. That's just me. We've all got our quirks. Great looking Egg Table though. I'm definitely envious.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the table saw is a a good thing to have for this build. You do not need it for a bunch of cuts, but for a few it is very handy.

  • @michaelroehl9873
    @michaelroehl9873 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I enjoyed the build, very nice. I would only suggest you look at how you are using your table saw, I have friends who have no fingers from not using push sticks and feather boards. It happens more often than you would think.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is definitely good advice. I do tend to get a little more comfortable than I should with the table saw. I do know people that have lost some fingers, definitely do not want to join them. I was actually working on a project today for the next egg table, and broke out my feather contraption... and a hammer for the push stick

    theoretically if you wanted to you could build the frame and other "internal" components out of PT lumber and then do legs, doors, shelves and outside panels in cedar. Also, I would highly recommend not only having that granite slab at the bottom but also the Big Green Egg "Table Stand" to provide a small air gap. The bottom of the egg gets super hot. One thing I know from reading about this is do not use a concrete patio slab. I've seen videos about guys who used them and when the concrete shattered it also broke the ceramic of the Egg.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      losing your egg because of a cheap landing pad would be heart breaking.😭.. I can only imagine how that would feel! I had the those little legs on for my last setup, but have not had any issues with the granite so far. If you build this for a covered setup, you could even use untreated pine for the internals. Thanks for the comments... Keegan

      @@Searedandsmoked I was unaware of the need for an air gap at the bottom and glad I got feedback on Facebook when I posted a picture of one I built from your pdf document. It came out great but what is best suggestion to create the air gap? Do I need to take the Egg out and put legs on it that will then stand on the granite slab?

      @@johndahlquist9325 Hi John, I have had mine on my granite slab now for 2 years and it has been OK. That being said, I mostly just smoke with my egg... do not do a lot of high temp grilling. Hi Keegan...absolutely loved the videos. Do you have a ballpark cost of materials when building this in Cedar. FYI I did choke on you spending $90 for that plastic drawer organizer!

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  ปีที่แล้ว

      these days maybe all materials for $600-750?? if you watch some of the later builds I did, I used a thinner cedar for the back and sides... which saves a lot of money. I would not skimp on the countertop, doors, and legs - use cedar for all of those. But I have used standard pine for my interior framing in recent builds, which has been OK. Just try to keep it dry if you build it and it will hold up well.

    Just got my Kamado and already looking for plans. This is an awesome set-up. This will be fully exposed, not under a porch or covering of any kind, do you have any issues with water/rain leaking thru the top boards in to your cabinets?

      I have had it under tighter ceilings that this in the past, and really did not have any issues with staining the wood or anything. If you are rolling low and slow, the smoke should be pretty clean after startup.

    Your table looks great - I enjoyed the video!! One question - with your cedar counter top, it seems like it might be difficult to keep clean. Has this been a problem? I'm starting a similar project, and am struggling with what to use for the top surface.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is easy to keep clean if the sealer is in good condition. Now that mine is flaking, it is not as easy to wipe down. One option that is cheaper than granite for the top, is an aluminum wrap. It is still expensive though. I got a quote for $400. I am probably going to hold off on doing anything different on mine, as I will probably build a larger setup at some point.

      @@Searedandsmoked You could also shorten the whole project about 2 inches, then build a 2 inch tall butcher block cutting board surface to put on the top. Lift it off to wash regularly, then occasionally, when that's not enough, sand it. Mine lasted many years. Washed with soap and water, then quickly wiped down with mineral oil.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stan, you can certainly modify the plans for an XL. I do not have enough free time on my hands right now to develop detailed plans for that, but it would be easy for you to modify a few dimensions or just expand all the horizontal dimensions based on the increased diameter to the XL egg. I would start from the center shelf for the XL egg and work your way out from there. You may have already seen the plans I have for the Large egg on my website www.searedandsmoked.com/diy-big-green-egg-table/ which are more detailed than the video, which would serve as a good starting point. Good luck!

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For this one, I just got the boards as tight as I could when mounting them to the framing. If you got the time... then joining them together with biscuits/glue would be a great idea. I find this setup to be pretty water tight, but does get a little moisture inside with hard rains that blow in.

    Is it bowing in the middle? That egg is 300lbs roughly and over 1k. I would have put a little more effort into holding up that heavy ass grill.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      it has held up just fine over the last 3 years. no issues for a large size. the XL plans I put together is beefed up with 2x6

    • @Gnash-Gaming
      @Gnash-Gaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seared and Smoked not to be an ass but I am curious why 2x6 vs 4x4? Building one of these myself and I admire your work and design just trying to reason out if I should use 2x4 or 4x4 and 2x6 never would have crossed my mind. And 4x4 would be superior in strength in my mind over a 2x6. I have a Kamado joe II 18” but it is heeeeefffffty and I was framing out my entire build with 4x4 and using 2x4 to brace for shelves but maybe I am completely over building but middle sag is a concern to me or just outright failure of a 2x4 with a 1800$ grill would be horrible. Also I am doing a concrete counter top at 2” thick which I imagine will be north of 300lbs.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, my experience comes from building decks. The 4x4's are typically for posts only. The beams and rafters would typically be constructed of 2x6, 2x8, 2x10, etc. You can also double those up for the horizontal pieces for more strength. So, I would genererally use 2x6 over the 4x4 for the bottom framing. For my XL egg setup, I used three 2x6 for the main horizontal pieces for the bottom frame. I have sold quite a few of those with no complaints on the structure. So, I think 2x6 would be fine to use.

    • @larryprice2694
      @larryprice2694 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gnash-Gaming It appears that 2x4's are plenty strong enough per this write up. homienjoy.com/how-much-weight-can-a-2x4-support/ The large green egg weighs 140 and XL 205 (BGE web). The way the framing is done the weight is essentially supported by 4 2x4's and not a center load but distributed over 24 inches. Should be more than adequate.
