I don't understand - what's wrong with Livingston?
do you expect 4-5 star restaurants everywhere you go? Not every place is ritzy, I think they call it poverty. Point out the highlights.
I see no reason not to visit his town, might be a little slow but that is not always a bad thing, just different. A different pace

And please at least try to talk to the locals instead of just walking around like a tourist.
