Great Video Doug. Just to let your viewers know, if you have a 4-blade fan, you will need to remove the radiator because you will not have the clearance

I replaced the studs from the engine and used bolts with lock washers. This makes it easier to remove the pump without the radiator getting damaged

Doug, all of your videos are good, I’m going through them all. Much appreciated, 2 weeks today I’m the new care taker of a 31; 400A. Sorting it out and between you and Paul Shinn, I should be able too. I’ve joined every club and locally, Model A’ers are very helpful. Ken in KY.

Wow- a 400A is a very collectible Model A indeed! The good news is that all the flavors of a stock Model A share almost all of the same mechanical parts and design underneath. There are a variety of places to find Model A replacement parts as well- either original or reproduction. And there is a lot of documented information about Model As on the internet. For most types of common maintenance and repair you do not need an advanced collection of tools and equipment. Model As are a good hobby for weekend mechanics, or if you are good with welding and shaping metal! Body work is beyond my skill set for now, although I do have a beginners hammer and dolly kit I want to try out sometime on an old oil pan I bought.

Very well done. But I'd NEVER tap the fan pulley to remove a stuck fan. Instead, you can get a FAN KNOCK OFF TOOL from any Model A supplier (about $3). You remove the pump assembly from the head and the tool that screws onto the front of the fan and lets you tap the tool to push the shaft loose from the fan.

You don’t need gasket sealer! That’s what the gasket is for!

The RV sealer would cause point deduction on judging standards. It not needs, just coat gasket with a very lite film of grease.
